We have a dovecot setup under ultramonkey load balancer and in loadbalancer we have a check defined for pop service which queries mysqldatabase for a particular user name/password after every 2 minutes to check if service is live or not.. Things are fine till here . Now The catch is if somehow that

AIX authenticate()
Hi, I just got a comment from one of my IBM support engineeres that there is a problem with auth-passwd.c only calling authenticate() once. He claims it should potentially be called several times, in case several authetication methods are defined in /etc/security/user. F.ex.: SYSTEM = "NIS and DCE" Suggested (untested) patch should look like: ----------------- cut

No, it is in production, i just change the real domain name by DCTEST for confidentiality. *Avahi is not installed in our server (print server is in an other server) *resolv.conf is good. * I read the documentation here https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_a_Samba_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller [1] , and i can't find where it is said to modify the nsswitch.conf in a server which is

Drive mappings
Hello again list! I'm attempting to use the following command in a startup batch file: net use U: \\mail\%U however when win9* runs this file on logging in, it tries to map \\mail\u Why isn't samba preprocessing this directive? (\\mail is NOT the name of the samba server doing the login authetication!) Please respond to mblinn@peopleplaces.org -- my mail client may be configured

samba 3 as a pretend DC?
Hi, I'm stuck in a network enviroment where ADS has taken over and by the end of the year the main DC's will only allow kerberos authentication. The problem is I have several legacy systems that are equipment controllers that can't be upgraded. They are running everything from OS/2 to NT4. So I need something for them to authenticate against using Lanman/NTLM/etc. Would it be

Rsync run on TCP/IP?
Dear All, I have searched the email archive but i didn't find a clear answer(maybe I miss it) ^^ 1. Does rsync run on TCP/IP? 2. Without ssh, then rsync will be transferred in plain text? 3. Does rsync support Samba? Am I true to say that rsync, which is mainly on user authetication, is transparent to the storage like ftp? Any help to any questions will be appreciated! Thank You!

feature request / question?
Occasionally we get a user who decided they need to pop their account 3 to 4 times a second... usually I just disable their account and shout "no!", but now I have someone trying to do it repeatedly with an invalid username so I don't know who to spank. =) Before if this happened I would block the IP and wait for someone to complain... dovecot doesn't make that very

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering & UserIDs . For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access. Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication. I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways. However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs, then use User authentication

OpenSSH hosbased authetication without DNS
Hi, I have found a general way to configure hostbased authentication using OpenSSH on several , ( I created a howto about it at http://www.omega.telia.net/vici/openssh ) but there is one remaining problem which I still could not solve. I would like to make hostbased authetication work without DNS resolving available both on the server and client side. First I added the IP addresses to the

I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value? 2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even

Win2k TS authentication probs / pw changing probs
Hi, We are having problems with clients changing their passwords from Win2k Terminal Servers against a Samba PDC. It works fine if the machine only has few users on it (ie when testing at 6pm after almost everyone is gone - I find it difficult to break). I'm guessing there is some sort of race condition or resource locking going on that prevents it happening properly. As I didn't

Inter Domain trusts and BDC
I have a Samba-LDAP PDC at an office and 5 BDC's at other offices. At corporate HQ I have a W2k Server and domain. I have properly configured an interdomain trust and Users in the Samba domain can get to sections on the W2k machine regardless of location. However, members in the W2K domain can only access shares on the PDC. Attempts to access shares on a BDC cause a user name
