Need clarification
Hi, I'm trying to run samba 2.2.6 + OpenLDAP as user/group database ( not /etc/passwd). nss_ldap+pam_ldap is installed and working OK, as I can login using ssh, or trough console with one of ldap user. But trying to connect to samba, when samba is ran as #samba -d 2 -i I get: ... init_sam_from_ldap: User [ldapuser] does not ave a uid! pass_check_smb failed - invalid password for user

RE Socomec ups protocl
Hi Saulius, The spec you sent me is simply a Megatec excerpt: http://www.networkupstools.org/protocols/megatec.html So Socomec is simply a megatec rebranding (selling by simply putting its name on). As per the NUT compatibility list (http://www.networkupstools.org/compat/stable.html), Sicon are supported by the powercom driver. But since it's a megatec unit, you should preferably try the

Successful migration NT4->SAMBA3 domain, anyone?
Hello, I have simple question. Has anyone succeeded to migrate NT4 domain with windows XP accounts to SAMBA3+LDAP domain? Our organization is very interested in doing this. We performed a test migration, users' accounts migrated without problems, but windows xp workstations can't login. I tried to find more information on this topic. What I found made me to think that such clean

lots of sockets in TIME_WAIT
Hi there, I have some DDOS(?) attack on my router going where my apache HTTP server is flooded with short-timed connections from some host. This results in LOTS of sockets in TIME_WAIT/LAST_ACK/CLOSING states and eventually I'm out of mbufs, which, consequently means I can't even connect to the router from LAN. The kern.ipc.nmbclusters is 2560, (I guess high enough for router with

Problems with cclust
To Whom It May Concern, I am currently trying to use R to perform a "kmeans" clustering of a three dimensional data set. In the directory R-1.5.1/library/cclust/data/ I have created a file that has the following format (only the first few lines are shown for brevity): B X.Vtl X.Vtu 1 -0.529043 1.307031 1.625169 2 -0.752502 1.132813 1.480548 3

Changing journaling mode on root / loop-aes
EXT3 developers: I am curious, if EXT3 is currently being used on the root partition in "data=ordered" mode (the default as I understand), and I want to have the it come up in data=journal mode, how do you effectuate this conversion? I would also be curious how to know if anything special is required for doing so for the /boot partition as well. I believe that with the /home partition,

Backup - suggestions needed....
Linux RH 7.3, Samba 2.2.7a NT 4.0 SP6 - Backup Exec 8.5 The linux box is running the Backup Exec client for Unix ('http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/192093.htm') Occasionally, when doing a backup the entire linux system freezes. I have to do a hard reboot without a shutdown, etc. There is 40 plus gigs on the backup, so I dont think a tar and copy would be bery efficient. I am

Samba and large implementations
Hi, we are investigating if Samba could help us to build a large (say very large) file server. We are thinking OS/390, 4 Tb, 20.000 users Are we being plain stupid, or has this been done before ? cu, Frank.

delay in utmpx entry when users logs out of samba domain
Hi, I'm using the system accounting functionallity of Samba 2.2.6. Everything is working fine and dandy except that there is a lag between when a user logs out of a Windos 2000 Domain member, the 'who' command still lists the user as logged on for the next 20 - 30 seconds. Does anyone know what causes this? Can I increase the frequency of utmpx updates? Can someone point me to an

EXT3 Worries
Dear Sir or Ma'am: I am interested to think about implementing EXT3 onto my servers here. However, I have some concerns and am hoping someone can address them. 1) If I install ext3 what is the likelihood that the extent of damage caused by its bugs will be limited to just the fact that the journals may not work properly? Alternatively, do I risk real damage to files and the filesystem at

taking the 3.0 plunge
I'm just curious: It seems that more and more people are using 3.0 (or 3.0a20). Obviously on this list we normally hear the worst (ie xxx doesn't work, why?). What I would like to know about are 3.0 success stories. Stability? Platform? Compiler? Gotcha's encountered? Here is what I am considering: a Mandrake 9.0 box with it's default gcc 3.2, I am still using a windows 2K

EXT3: tail packing status / a few questions
Dr. Tweedie, et al.: I have decided to move to EXT3 from ReiserFS if I can get tail packing for EXT3. Last I had asked about it, someone had written some sort of patch but it was not official (I think), and was questionable if it had worked or not. Can someone tell me the status in the instant? If I installed 2.4.18 or a later kernel, would tail packing be part of EXT3? How would I turn it on or

Samba PDC problem: Please help me avoid a mutiny! :-)
I've been beating my head against this one and just can't figure it out. I hope someone here may have an answer. The employees using the workstations on this network are getting increasingly upset with this problem. The problem is wildly varying logon and logoff times over the network. This is definitely not a matter of long profile transfers. An individual can log onto a workstation

2GB of Waste? How can it be?
Dr. Tweedie, et al.: I recently formatted a partition using EXT3, and after a "df -h" I get 14GB of space. When I reformatted the partition with ReiserFS, and did a "df -h" I got 16GB of space! Now the partition was setup to be 16GB via fdisk, so 16GB is correct. However, why does EXT3 loose 2GB of space? The journals cannot be that big!?! Very Respectfully, Stuart

Multiplexed Ogg and header problems.
I there was a discussion on the vorbis list about Real Audio SureStream (tm) format. The basic idea was that they put multiple RA files with different compression levels. So when they have to switch the bit rate due to bandwidth changes, they choose from the streams they have. Since peeling is a long time away, it could be implemented with ogg vorbis multiplexing several times the same
