FreeBSD as a PDC
Hello all, I was using Samba 2.2.5 on a Linux machine as a PDC and it was working fine. But know I installed FreeBSD 4.7 in this machine and installed Samba 2.2.6pre2. It's still working as a PDC, but I can't add machine trust accounts because FreeBSD doesn't accept $ in its usernames. How should I do now? Thanks in advance.

The specified domain either doesn't exist or couldn't be contacte d.
Hi list, I have installed Samba 2.2-8a on a linux box running RH 9 with LDAP backend as the account database. I have configured the system to function as PDC. When I try to join the domain from any Win2K machine, I get the following error: The following occured validating the name "mydomain". This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. Importing TIFF files into a R matrix
Hi I am facing a problem where I would like to import a TIFF image (of spots on a nylon filter) into R (into a matrix for example). When plotting the matrix using fx. scatterplot3d I would then be able to see how the pixel-intensities are distributed in "spot-areas" on the filter - which would be very helpful. Does anynone know of a way to do this? Best regards, Peter Hagedorn ...

samba and OS X
Hello, We are having this issue with samba and OSX 10.2.3. We are using freebsd4.7 serving samba as a fileserver for our company, we have a mix of windows and macs connecting to it. The windows machines work just fine the macs are another story. I have narrowed it down to this: I can open a file/document from the fileserver on my mac and edit it but it tells me I dont have the permissions to

Help compiling R
Hi, I have just downloaded R (v. 0.90.1) and am trying to compile it on a Sun/UNIX system running Solaris 2.6. Needless to say, I have run into a problem, and cannot find any info on it through the CRAN site, or searching the old discussion files. When I do the "make', after configuring, I get the message, "The current directory must be set to the RSI directory. Change the

change uid/god below 100
Hi. Only indirectly related to zfs. I need to test diskusage/performance on zfs shared via nfs. I have installed nevada b64a. Historically uid/gid for user www has been 16/16 but when I try to add uid/gid www via smc with the value 16 I''m not allowed to do so. I''m coming from a FreeBSD backgroup. Here I alter uid using vipw and edit /etc/group afterwards. -- regards Claus

clarification needed: $ in machine name?
Hello, Sorry to be a pest, but I need to try to get some clarification of how the machine name works when setting up a machine account on the Samba server. The Samba How-To page http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html#id2536400 talks about the "common error" of including the $ in the machine name on the server machine. However, all of the

Re Phrase Tuning.
Thanks Olly, I have given flint a go -and it is generally much quicker (once it has loaded the cache -that process still takes minutes). Flint actually seems tro do some caching whereas quartz just seemed to hit the disc constantly. Generally I've been running it on a machine with 5G of memory -but it has to contend with other processes for resources, I have also run it on its own on a 1G

smbpasswd fails to add machine account with ldapsam
Hi! I am seeing other users with the same problem as I have. My samba also fails to add machine accounts. It seems to me if it didn't even try. If I use some other script (pdbedit, smbldap-tools) than smbpasswd it manages to add the account but still fails to authenticate within the same session. If I try again the machine account exists and authentication goes ok. server:~# smbpasswd -a -m

Flint failed to deliver indexing performance to Quartz.
Flint failed to deliver indexing performance to Quartz. I am proposing to remove Flint as default database and place Quartz database back as default. The catch is not that Flint database is smaller and faster during searches then Quartz database as developers were concerning when were measuring and neglecting to measure performance when creating the large indexes. The truth is that Flint

Information disclosure?
Hello, For some reason, I thought little about the "clear" command today.. Let's say a privileged user (root) logs on, edit a sensitive file (e.g, a file containing a password, running vipw, etc) .. then runs clear and logout. Then anyone can press the scroll-lock command, scroll back up and read the sensitive information.. Isn't "clear" ment to clear the

Modifying username
I modified a users name on my system. From ABCLast, to ALast (used as an example). I modified the username, then the group name of the user (to align with the new name), and then I moved the users home directory from /home/ABCLast, to /home/ALast. Then using vipw, edited the home directory to use /home/ALast. When I got finished editing the passwd file, I got the following message: You have

Slow vipw and fast pwd_mkdb
Hello, could somebody to comment PR bin/51148? It is suggestion how to pass a value of cache size to pwd_mkdb when we are doing vipw or such. It can give a greate speed-up when master.passwd is really big (and sometimes it is). Appropriate cache size can make process 10 to 100 or more times faster. I gave the results of measurements in that problem report. Thanks in advance! SY, Alex

pblms with samba 2.X /3.x and NT--W2k
There is OBVIOUSLY something wrong somewhere. EITHER a WHOLE bunch of us are stupider than we thought, the documentation left off a step, or there is something SO blatently obvious that we are ALL staring it in the face and missing it inches in front of our faces. This is exactly what I've had, (BUT I *D*I*D* have it running ok ...) and I STILL havent figured it out yet,... Subject:
