FC5: "ext_attr" and "large_file" features for ext3 file systems ???
Hi, Fedora Core ext3 file systems newbie questions: Just interested in the Linux ext3 features but got confused with "large_file" and "ext_attr". First, what's the "large_file" feature REALLY means? For file systems created with same commands and options some file systems have it on while some not. It is said that the feature is automatic -- If there is a

issues with geo-replication
Hi all. I'm looking to see if anyone can tell me this is already working for them or if they wouldn't mind performing a quick test. I'm trying to set up a geo-replication instance on 3.2.5 from a local volume to a remote directory. This is the command I am using: gluster volume geo-replication myvol ssh://root at remoteip:/data/path start I am able to perform a geo-replication

ext3 incompatability between linux 2.4/ppc and linux 2.6/x86
Hi, I'm using ext3 filesystems in embedded devices (storage is on 512Mb or 1Gb CF cards). A typical development cycle would see the filesystem created on the desktop PC running linux 2.4 (eg. RedHat 9). The CF card would be installed in the hardware and linux 2.4 (eg. Montavista Pro 3.1, on PPC) would boot from the CF. Recently I tried a linux 2.6 desktop (CentOS) for the same task and

Purpose of the "ea support" option?
Please can someone clarify the purpose of the "ea support = yes" option in smb.conf? According to the man page, it's there to allow _clients_ to attempt to store OS/2 style extended attributes. As long as the underlying server filesystem supports EAs, this will work. However, I've seen a number of references to setting "ea support = yes" when people just want to store

ACL fully functional?
I have compiled both my kernel (2.4.17) and samba (2.2.3a) to support ACL/EAs. It looks like it has gone well, but I get one message that worries me, but I don't know if it should or not. checking whether to support ACLs... checking for acl_get_file in -lacl... yes checking for ACL support... yes Using posix ACLs checking for acl_get_perm_np... no As you can see, the last line is where my

Memory corruption when testing nbdkit python plugin with nbd-tester-client?
Hi, has anyone ever run "make check" from nbd against nbdkit with a python plugin? I usually get segfaults during such a run, and sometimes various other errors happen before the segfault, suggesting that some memory corruption is underway. AFAICS a pure python plugin should not be able to cause memory corruption. Examples of nbdkit logs for running "make check" or subsets of

pickle in R
Hello all! I was wondering if there is a way to pickle an R object into a file like it is possible in python? Such as you have an complicated R object(not a dataframe) , you use a function to write it to a file and than you have a function where you can retrieve the object from that file later on. Thanks Christoph

ext2/ext3 256 bytes inode problem
Hello, seems like the new default ext2/ext3 256 bytes inode size problem applies to extlinux. HPA, could you confirm it? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=491076 http://e2fsprogs.sourceforge.net/e2fsprogs-release.html E2fsprogs 1.40.5 (January 27, 2008) "Mke2fs will now create new filesystems with 256 byte inodes and the ext_attr feature flag by default. yum: could not load sqlite, falling back to pickle
After cleaning up the issues with yum consuming the machine by allocating memory until it croaked (versioning issue with sqlite), and with the machine now stable and fully updated, I happened to notice this message at the start of yum runs: # yum check-update Warning, could not load sqlite, falling back to pickle Is this expected, or indication of a further problem? --

How are alternate superblocks repaired?
Hi, Using dumpe2fs I have been able to determine that all of my alternate ext3 superblocks are corrupted (not clean), and only the primary superblock is valid, i.e. mount works and the ordered journal is applied. When the primary superblock gets flakey, i.e. the ext_attr Filesystem feature goes missing - not sure why this occurs. At this point, the mount does not apply the journal using the

The data on this disks are usually intranet KB's, DB's etc.. The RAID 5 arrays are formatted using the default options i,e mkfs.ext3 /dev/Xda. The RAID controller is 3ware escalade and each disk member in the RAID
