Performance problem
We use some Samba servers running SuSE 7.1 and samba 2.2.1a.
These servers are sometimes very slow while delivering data over the network. It is like a short sleep-mode followed by a wake up. We use Win 95, 98 and 98SE Clients.
Any ideas?
Thanks from germany,

Using win2k non-pdc as password server
Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba on a Linux box to work. Authentication via user
level worked fine, but what I really want is it to take user authentication from
a win2k box, which is our "primary local server". The win2k box is not a pdc,
(the real pdc is 2000km away, close to the polar circle), but according to
the docs it doesn't have to be.
So in smb.conf I put:

Filing to public folders
Hi all,
I'm currently playing with a setup which might replace my current cyrus imapd one
with dovecot. Currently I'm stuck with trying to file messages that got to the user
"lists" to the public namespace' System folder (public/System) with sieve.
Dovecot claims "Permission denied", and I tried several debugging techniques to
get the cause - without a result

subshares ?
hi all...
i have what seems a simple question regarding subshares, for lack of a better term...
say i have a share with specific user/group permissions and a directory inside the share that i would like to add different user/group permissions...
this is an example of my smb.conf file to illustrate
[driveA]
path = /samba/driveA
browseable = Yes
writeable = Yes
valid users = PDC+groupA

Samba on Tru64 UNIX Cluster
Hi list,
I am planning to deploy samba 2.2.6 on a two-node cluster running Tru64 UNIX
5.1A. Each node will be running an instance of samba providing different
services, but I want the locks directory to be shared between them so that if
one node goes down, the other can take over its services and still have correct
information about open files etc.
My question:
Can the tdb's handle being

win2k connecting to sbm Linux server
Hi gang,
I recently set up a smb server on rh7.2 to be able to share files with my 2k
boxes. I am able to see the Linux smb server via network neighborhood on the
win2k boxes but cannot connect. I get a path not found error. Can anyone
give me a few pointers where the problem may be and how to fix? Thanks in
advance for all replies.

printing probs and samba update
Hi,
I have still a 2.2.5 Samba PDC running and get from time to time
printing problems. Sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes when trying to
print even simple documents, but then most of the time printing
starts immediately.
I could not figure out why or when this is happening. It has nothing
to do with a long printer queue or an (over)loaded server.
Perhaps someone else had these problems too?

Logins via winbind & ssh/xdm/... take a lot of time
Hi,
I have a box running with samba 2.2.7 and winbind (nmbd and winbindd in use)
to allow users of the local NT domain to login. The config files for PAM and
/etc/nsswitch.conf have been configured correctly so logins are now possible
using the local console (login), ssh, xdm and su.
Almost everything works fine - everything but the time that is needed for
the login process of an NT user to

samba slow at overwriting of files
dear samba list members,
I recently installed RedHat 8.0 with samba 2.2.7 (already updated, was 2.2.5
before I think, but with the same problem). now I have the problem, that
overwriting of files on shares of that samba machine sometimes is extremely
slow. writing new files is fast as ever. but what seems interesting to me is,
that it depends on how I'm overwriting files.
for example I'm

Samba 2.2.5 Security Bug?
Hello
Does anyone know why normal users can set a blank samba password with the
smbpasswd kommand by inserting <CR> twice after inserting the old passwd:
ben@amo:% /opt/samba/bin/smbpasswd
Old SMB password:<oldpasswd>
New SMB password:<CR>
Retype new SMB password:<CR>
Password changed for user ben
After that the user can map the samba shares with a blank password even
