Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member. I took the precompiled 64-bit Package (samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine. I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

Please Help with Secondary Groups
System: I am running RedHat 8.0 (2.4.18-14smp) with SAMBA 2.7 and user authentication against OpenLDAP 2.1.22. Problem: On RedHat, Put over (I think 70 or so) users within a secondary group. Got to Konqueror or Nautilus and try to change a directory's permissions to that group with over 70 or so users in it, (it may be 80 or 90 users), YOU CAN NOT assign that group to have ownership of that

FreeBSD and Winbind
I'm hoping this is an easy question, but the way my day has gone I seriously doubt it is going to be. Today, I installed Samba 3.0.24 with winbind support on my FreeBSD 6.2 server. I am able to join my domain and get information concerning groups and passwords from the domain controller (Windows 2003) without any problem. Where I have run into a problem is using getent to get a copy of the

I succesfully setted up the winbind with "idmap backend = ldap:ldap:..." LDAP is used only to store idmap's. The problem: On the server with OpenLDAP and winbind, all is working fine! DTrace as a security tool / http://systrace.org
I''d like to see if we can use DTrace to as the kernel implementation of the BSD systrace security policy system (http://www.systrace.org). I don''t really want to port systrace to Solaris because I think with DTrace we already have all the necessary in kernel hooks to do this. With systrace you express things like: "httpd can bind to port 80 but not any other port, it

LDAP users/groups not showing up with nis, pam, & ldap
I am trying to configure NIS, PAM, & LDAP on a CentOS 6.2 host. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4, but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations are a little different. Currently, local users and groups are showing up but not LDAP users. When I do a /getent passwd/ and/getent group/ I don't get LDAP users. When I do

winbind name service required for active directory (ADS) authentication and group-based authorization?
Hello Samba Gurus, Is using the winbind name service required in order to get authentication AND authorization via ADS? I'll explain further. Goal: create samba share for which clients are authenticated via native ADS and access is based on ADS group membership. I've actually done this in the old Windows NT world. Worked okay. It's wasn't too hard, except for the winbind
