Winbind problem?
I've got a Samba PDC and a Samba domain member server. I successfully
joined the domain, started winbind and run the wbinfo -p; wbinfo -t
tests, both succeeded. But if I do a winbind -g I only get
BUILDIN/group and if I do a wbinfo -u I get "Error looking up domain
users". But ntlm_auth succeeds.
So I'm a little confused. At this point this is a minor issue since

problem with Too many open files
Hi Samba community,
Last year we upgraded from version 3.0.10 to 3.0.20b and at the same
time
switch from NT-domain controller membership to AD membership. After this
upgrade we began to experience that drives sometimes were not mapped.
We saw this both on our Citrix servers and on our XP PCs.
A couple of weeks back we then moved to 3.0.21b in the hope that this
misbehaviour would

wbinfo -u fails in Samba-3.0.4 on Samba PDC/BDC
Dear list,
Do any of you use the latest(3.0.4) as a Samba PDC(with OpenLDAP) on Linux ?
If yes, have you encountered the following problem ?
The setup is a PDC with an LDAP server running locally which is accessed
directly and through nsswitch/PAM. A member server is providing shares to
clients.
When looking up domain users (wbinfo -u) from a member server(Solaris 8,
OpenLDAP 2.1.25) there are

Interdomain trust to Windows 2003 native mode domain ?
Dear list and Samba Team,
It says in the Samba Howto, that it "should" be possible to
trust a Windows 2000 domain, but it needs more testing.
Have any of you made this work ?
I ask because we implemented our Samba/LDAP-3 domain
during the week-end and had to rool back since we couldn't
get the user validation to a trusted Windows 2003 native domain
to work.
Samba team,

After upgrade to 3.0.3pre2, exactly the same configuration - with exactly

smbstatus hangs after upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.6
Dear list,
I have just upgraded our main Samba server from version 2.2.8a to 3.0.6.
It seems to be working fine except for 2 things:
1. when I use smbstatus(or swat/status) only some of the connections
are listed and then smbstatus hangs forever(swat comes back after
a while, but only with some of the connections)
Have any of you experienced something similar ?
How can I debug

problem with all capitals 8.3 filenames
Dear list,
After having upgraded from Samba-2.2.8a to Samba-3.0.4 I have problems
getting "short preserve case = Yes" to work properly for filenames having
only capital letters when seen from NT-4.0 explorer. A mixture of lettercase
filenames and all lowercase work fine. What I see is the following:

help, we are running out of idmap uids
Dear Samba experts,
Initially we set up winbind to the following:
idmap uid = 10000-20000
thinking that 10000 uids were sufficient
for the number of users we would get.
We also have defined our UNIX users
from 20001 onwards.
However, now I can see that our latest
windows(idmap uid) users has uid 19123
and this troubles me.
Since I cannot just "extend" the

security bug or misconfiguration ?
Dear list,
We are experiencing users unexpectedly accessing each others files.
It happens when they try to access files that are called the same and which
is located in an equal file structure under their login drive. Two other
conditions
need to be fulfilled: one of the users needs to have the file locked and
both users
needs to be logged into the same Citrix server(windows-2000).

RE: problem with Too many open files(REASON FOUND)
Hi again,
For what it is worth, we found out that MS Outlook on Citrix
now and then opens thousands(17-18000) of references(filehandles)
to the same PAB(Personal Address Book) files and then
give up these references again after a while !? This was what
made Samba chooke. We will now remove all PAB access
from Outlook.
Sorry for wasting Samba mailing list bandwidth ;-)

3.0.3 Pure Samba Domain. Servers can't list and don't recognize d omain users.
We have a Samba PDC (Mandrake 9) a BDC (RH 7.3) and a Memberserver (Solaris
2.8).
A configuration which is working OK in 3.0.1 seems to be broken in 3.0.3.
Everything (except NTLM authentication) has been working fine. After
installing 3.0.3 you cannot list domain users and the member server doesn't
recoginize users as domain members.
wbinfo gives the following results

Rgenerating headers
Hi
So far when I have streamed Vorbis, the headers (the 3 first
frames/packets) was not included in the stream, but communicated
out of band typically in an SDP file as unparsed A-lines.
Rethinking that concept, I'm wondering if it is really necessary
to do it that way. Isn't it possible in a platform independent
way to regenerate useable headers on the client side using
just the

Linux limits
Hi all,
Any one know how to increase the Linux limit? I am hiting a wall on 200
calls playing files at the same time. From Asterisk console, I am
getting messages like
Sip_request_call: Unable to build sip pvt data for "asterisk1/700"
Too many open files
Is this a limit of my Linux box? I only have 512MB of ram. Will increase
it to 2G help or I have to change some configuration in

Vorbis as a standard
Hi
I'm trying push for companies and government institutions to
start using Vorbis as an alternative to MP3 and to some extend
AAC so they as a benefit can ignore rigid license schemes and
expensive royalty payments. In principle it ought to be a
downhill job, but it has turned out to be a lot more difficult
than expected.
The biggest obstacle for government institutions and to some

Estimating parameters for a bimodal distribution
For several years, I have been using Splus to analyze an ongoing series of
datasets that have a bimodal distribution. I have used the following
functions, in particular the ms() function, to estimate the parameters: two
means, two standard deviations, and one proportion. Here is the code I've
been using in S:
btmp.bi <- function(vec, p, m1, m2, sd1, sd2)

id of last element in a table
Hi,
I would like to figure out how to determine what the id of the last
element in a table is. Is there an equivalent to the Table.find() method
which will tell me the number of elements in a table? also, maybe more
importantly, where are the available methods on tables documented?
What i am trying to do is to increment the id and work through a table
and check whether the id i am currently

Website for Ogg/Vorbis support for MPEG4IP

I have created a small website trying to document my Ogg/Vorbis support for MPEG4IP.
You can find it here.

Create a vector of indices from a matrix of start and end points
I have a very large dataframe and wish to extract a subset of rows. I
have a two column matrix listing the starting and ending indices of
one subset on each row. My idea is to create a vector of indices that
could be applied to the dataframe and I have a solution using a for
loop (below). But surely there is some more elegant way to do this! I

reading in results from system(). There must be an easier way...
Hello,
I am currently using R to run an external program and then read the results
the external program sends to the stdout which are tsv data.
When R reads the results in it converts it to to a list of strings which I
then have to maniuplate with a whole slew of commands (which, figuring out how
to do was a reall challenge for a newbie like myself)--see below.
Here's the code I'm
