netlogon script generation
Can anyone point me to a doc or a script that shows how to generate netlogon script on the
fly and supports users having multiple groups? I tried the Perl script referenced at
<http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/AdvancedNetworkManagement.html> but I believe it only
supports the user being a member of one group.

Home shares staying (NT4)
I am having the same trouble with automatically mounted home shares with
samba 2.2.1a (PDC, domain logins, roaming profiles) and NT4WS sp6a. If
I login as one user, logout, then login as another, I can view the
previous users home share as well as my newly logged in users home share
(lather, rinse, repeat...). The NT box has a machine account, domain
logins work, profiles work, login scripts

Passing domain name to PPP
Hi-
Our PPP RAS server is running Samba 2.2.8a and winbind. We want to
authenticate dialup users through the PDC (Win NT 4 SP6). However, in order
to do so, the dommainname needs to be prepended to the username, ie,
DOMAIN+USERNAME.
We don't want to have to teach all our dialup users to add the domainname
when they login to RAS, so we are looking for a way to script this.
Has anyone tweaked

Samba 2.2.5 - Cannot copy The path is too deep
I recently installed Samba 2.2.5 from the FreeBSD ports.
It seems Samba works fine when browsing the Samba server from WinXP
client, etc. I can copy files from the Samba server, and even create
small files and copy small files TO the Samba server.
The problem seems to be if I try to copy any file greater than 16Kbytes
or so to the Samba server. When I do so, Windows XP complains with an

PDC and remote login
Hello,
I have a Samba PDC sitting behind a Linux firewall/VPN server (using PoPToP).
My remote users can log in to the VPN and they are assigned a local IP address in the same subnet as the local PC's and servers.
I'd like these users to be able to log in to the Samba PDC domain when coming in via the VPN connection.
How do I set up the client PC's (Win98 and 2000) to do this?

Desperate! passwd sync problem...please help!
Hello,
I am running Samba 2.2.3a-6 on a Debian(testing) machine.
It is running as a PDC for 15 Win2K(SP2/3) systems. Everything runs
beautifully except the users cannot change their passwds. When a user
CTRL-ALT-DEL and change passwd they ultimately get a messages stating that
the old passwd is incorrect....
If I log into a shell as a user on the system and invoke smbpasswd, It
goes through all

Re: 2.2.3a as a PDC for Win2k Pro and/or WinXP Pro
Hi Mathias,
I can't speak on Win2k Pro but have recently tested WinXP Pro. Now with
XP you will need to use the reg file included with the samba archive (in
a sub directory in the docs dir). Once that has been applied (presuming
all accounts have already been created on server) you can join the
domain and log in no problems.

who's on
Hi everyone,
Probably a dumb one too, but simply I cannot put my finger on what command
to use in order to see who's locally logged on; let me be more accurate in
my description:
we run win98 PC all accessing shares on the linux boxes via samba. Several
users & shares. When I use finger or who to see who's logged on I only get
to see who's logged on directly through ssh or telnet,

Authentication through samba
Greets,
I have two samba servers setup on linux machines (Machine A, Machine B).
I would like one (Machine A) to authenticate for itself and Machine B.
So far, setting Machine B up as a client pointed to Machine A as a
password server seems to work somewhat but Machine B still requires the
uid/gid to exist locally in order to work properly. Is there a way
around this?

Solving Nautilus Samba issue
I'm trying to solve this bug with browsing SMB shares with Nautilus:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=129890
I posted on nautilus-list about it and the response was basically, "We
don't know enough about SMB, maybe you could get a Samba developer to
help?" So, do any of you wise Samba people know what might be causing
this? Thanks for your help.

smbclient & printing on win2k box with HP Deskjet 560C (Drivers?) SMB 2.2.3a - Kernel 2.4.7, red hat 7.2
Hi LUs,
I dont have much time at the moment to read tons of documentation. So, I
would like to ask a hopefully easy to answer question.
Samba is running alright with me, smbclient works fine, but I would like to
print from my Linux box over LAN to a printer (HP 560C) connected to a win2k
box. Because I can't afford a better or second printer & I also havent got
enough room for it

Samba Upgrade Yields Undesired Domain-Wide IE High Security
Forgive the repost, but I've changed the subject line since I
haven't seen a reply yet...please help, I don't have much hair
left!
Hello All,
I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7
box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was
functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to
migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE

Connection scripts with the 'prexec' clause
Hi all,
I am running Samba 3.0.20B on an AIX server with SECURITY=USER using an
LDAP backend. I am looking for a way to capture the actual
username(%USER_NAME%) that
the client user is logged onto his individual workstation with and compare
it with the user(%u) they are connecting with the share as. If they are
different, I want to reject the user's connection. After doing some

prexec change between 3.0.24 to 3.0.25
Hello,
I've been testing out 3.0.25 before putting it into production and came
across an issue.
As a simple example..
in a share definition
root preexec = echo "hey there, hi there, hello" > /tmp/hiya.txt
works fine under 3.0.24
not so under 3.0.25, /tmp/hiya.txt isn't created.
Cranking up the debugging and using some other similiar tests it seems
to me that Samba is in

XP "logon failure" but still logs on -- no roaming profile
I'm having a problem with roaming domains on Samba v3.0-alpha21. I've
connected the machine (watertown) to the domain (precidia) via the
server (griffon). I've logged on with my userid (bcwhite) and seen
my roaming profile get created on the server upon logoff. Future logons
grab the roaming profile and everything is fine.
However, _sometimes_ I get a window with the message:

Win2k joining a Samba domain
Hi,
Having managed to get far enough with the config to get a win2k box to
connect to a Samba v3.0 share where the Samba machine's backend is based
in LDAP, I cannot now add this win2k machine to the domain.
Can anyone give me an example of how to set up an account within the
LDAP server that has sufficient rights to allow the machine to join my
Samba domain?

Graham

local/domain master browser
I hope this isn't too confusing, but I'm confused so...
We have four boxes on our network (at least that I'm primarily concerned
with). A Samba v2.2.5 PDC (linuxts1), one windows 98 workstation
(kmorris), and two Samba workstations (jvan v2.2.3a & mrambo v.2.2.2).
We're having browse problems on the network. The server is set up to be
a domain & local master, the wins

unable to join 2000 to samba domain
I have a situation where some 2000 machines are unable to join the samba
domain. We have about 50 machines of which two thirds are 2000 boxes.
All of the 9x boxes log to the samba domain with no trouble. Of the 2000
machines we have two groups - some IBM's and some Dell's with the Dell's
being a couple of months older. All of the IBM's joined the domain
without problems. None of

Samba 2.2.5 - can't initialize locking module`
I have just upgraded a RedHat 6.2 box from Samba 2.0.10 to Samba 2.2.5
in one of our elementary school buildings because we now have some w2k
boxes that must log to the domain. I'm now getting an error on
initializing the locking modules when I run smbstatus. I did the upgrade
remotely so I don't know yet whether workstations work properly with the
upgrade.
