Samba Server in a WinNT 4 Domain - SOLVED, sort of...
Update on the problem all: Turns out a junior administrator had used the IP addy that I was using for my test machine for another machine and didn't tell me about it. Anyway - MAJOR problem averted, but I still have a minor annoyance. I described a very long pause when accessing the SAMBA machine from Windows before, well that is still with me. I finally get what I'm looking for, but it

(Repost to list) Copying large files xp pro -> Samba very slow
I previously posted this to the linux.samba mailing list. I'm not sure that was the right place, so here it is again. Apologies if you've already seen it. Hi, I would really appreciate any hep with a big problm I'm having with XP (Pro / SP1 ) transferring to a samba share. The transfer starts off OK, using about 66% of my 100Mbs network. Then, after about 10-15 seconds, it drops off

Regarding slow transfer speeds with Samba --> Windows and FA311
I recently ran into significant problems with a network configuration in which transfers from the samba linux box to a windows box was taking a unreasonbly large amount of time. Transfer speeds looked like 5k/sec vs ftp with the same file/machine setup, 750k/sec. I found a solution to my problem. My problem I think was something the duplex mode whether it was incorrectly configured in the driver

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like in Windows. So I

Line Override Device
Hello, I am trying to solve a problem that I can foresee when I deploy Asterisk into a few SOHO situations soon. In Nebraska and in my area of Western Pennsylvania we have violent thunderstorms in spring and summer and sometimes very heavy wet snow in Winter. Both type of event will take out the power of a period of 30sec to 36-hours. So no UPS system would be able to handle a system for over

Can't see linux machine from winxp
I have literally beat my brains out trying to get my XP machine to talk to my samba server on my linux machine. MY PROBLEM: The samba server (version 2.2.7a) is running on Redhat Linux 9.0. I can successfully connect to the XP machine and copy files from the XP machine to my Linux machine. But I cannot access my linux box from my XP machine (The samba server shows up in the browse list on

Performance Issue: Red Hat vs SuSE
Hi All, A couple of days ago I posted a query here about the loss of performance on my backup server after I moved from Red Hat 7.3 to SuSE 8.1. It appears as though, with no hardware or script changes, that my backup process takes 4 hours longer with SuSE 8.1. I'm doing (what I think is) a very simple script that basically employs SMBMOUNT, CP, and DIFF. Like this:

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server :( As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with the same transfer

Win98SE to Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Thanks for the answers so far but I haven't been able to come up with an solution yet :( Some new info (see bottom of email for history): 1. I upgraded to 2.0.10 on my Mandrake 8.0, no change to the transfer problem. 2. I attempted to ftp a file from the Win 98SE PC to my Samba Server, didn't work. So I can assume that it is not specifically Samba problem. 3. I have changed the NIC cards

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All! Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot more info now than I used to have! But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC? All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating a new domain as you create the Samba

Guitar Pro 6 won't launch
I'm using openSuSE 11.3. Recently, I've downloaded the demo of Guitar Pro 6 in order to use it with Wine. The installation succeeded, but the .exe file (ran with Wine) won't launch. I found Guitar Pro 6 in the Wine application database but it has no maintainer. Someone suggested to install vcrun2005 - I did it with wine-tricks, but it didn't change anything and at the end of the

Re-4: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
I modified the CUPS access rights (defined in cupsd.conf). Before that only users of administrative group had access to the printer configuration parts. Now I removed all access restrictions, so that anyone can access all CUPS services (printers, jobs, ...) (we use this, because sometimes we need to hold printers manually ...). But, as I mentioned, I don't find the relationship between this

Hi, Can we use the same image for external links on the wiki as we are using for Trac ? It is much less obtrusive in pieces of text. Help with first S3-class
Hi, I am trying to understand S3 classes. I have read several tutorials about the topics but I am still a bit confused. I guess it is because it is so different from Java OOP. I have pasted my attempt at creating a bank-account class below and my problems are: 1. What should be added some plot.default() calls the account$plot() method ? 2. What should the account$plot() be implemented to

Problems authentication with NT PDCs in security = server (was security = user)
The interesting part is that PAM nor the SMB auth plugin for Apache requires you to be a member of the domain. However, the caveat with pam_smb_auth is that you have to have a unix account for every windows user you want to authenticate. I guess the behavior I'm trying to achieve is the one achieved with the Apache plugin: 1) Doesn't require you to be a member of the domain 2)

Can tdbtool be installed on it's own?
Hi guys, I have a Netgear ReadyNas that has Samba v3.4.5 installed on it. I'm having trouble accessing some tdb files and I'm wondering whether the app tdbtool can be installed on its own as it seems that Netgear have pulled it out. I have windows domain users who get denied access for no reason and the events aren't being caught my the standard logs. Plus Netgear force the smb.conf
