Cannot re-make a software raid pair
Apologies if you get this twice - the first one didn't seem to make it... Hi Guys, I have just replaced a faulty Max...woah, wait...this one's a Seagate... IDE hard disk but I cannot remake the software raid pair. The currently running disk is hda and I am trying to add back hdg - both are master drives on separate controllers. I have run fdisk on hdg and created the same partition

SMART Prefailure Attribute messages
Hello, My machine is running Software RAID 5 on /dev/hde1, /dev/hdg1,/dev/hdi1. I noticed on the log that suddenly we are getting messages such as : Oct 14 01:27:16 localhost smartd[4801]: Device: /dev/hde, SMART Prefailure Attribute: 8 Seek_Time_Performance changed from 247 to 246 Oct 14 01:57:15 localhost smartd[4801]: Device: /dev/hde, SMART Prefailure Attribute: 8 Seek_Time_Performance

All data "gone," lost+found is left.
So you know, I don't know too much about file systems. Here is what I did: I have two linux boxes. the first box had many hardrives in it, but needed to be used in other ways. So I took 4 harddrives out of it and placed it in the other Linux box. I thought it would be able to read these right away. (maybe this was my mistake?) I could mount all of the drives in there. three of my

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
I am trying to upgrade my system from 500GB drives to 1TB. I was able to partition and sync the raid devices, but I cannot get the new drive to boot. This is an old system with only IDE ports. There is an added Highpoint raid card which is used only for the two extra IDE ports. I have upgraded it with a 1TB SATA drive and an IDE-SATA adapter. I did not have any problems with the system

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all, well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white flag... It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

Ext3 Journal corruption on hitachi deskstars
I recently came across an enormous cluster of x86 clone machines running fedora core 1 (2.4.24) which have typically all intel or amd have VIA IDE chipsets. They frequently experience corrupted journals rendering the ext3 partition in read-only mode. More important than recovering the filesystem, I am interested in finding the root of the problem. The common hardware that all of these

Re:Re: fsck error
I am working on a Red Hat 7.2 system which has been upgraded to the 2.4.9-13 kernel RPMs. The my machines has RPM e2fsprogs-1.23-2 installed but the upgrade from ext2 to ext3 was done manually rather than accepting the offer in the 7.0 to 7.2 upgrade. I did this by running tunefs2 -j on two partitions. I have had some problems following the instructions in the ext3-usage.html

Not enough disk space error?
Hi, I have installed Samba on a Debian machine. I have created 2 shares on these filesystems: /dev/hde3 71G 33M 71G 1% /storage/1 /dev/hdg1 75G 8.8G 66G 12% /storage/2 As you can see, both have in excess of 60GB free space. When I try to copy files to the filesystems via Samba, an artificial limit is being imposed - at around 8.8GB. From windows I get

Error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) when doing local rsync.
Hi, I cannot seem to find a good answer for what I am doing wrong; I am simply trying to rsync a directory from one large disk partition to another disk, both ext2, on the same physical system by using the command: rsync --archive -v /etc /mnt/hdf/ I systematically get the following errors: # rsync --archive -v /etc /mnt/hdf/ building file list ... done etc/ etc/mtab etc/ntp/drift

I'm going to guess that there are no IDE drives that have 4096 byte physical sectors, but it's worth confirming you don't have such a drive because the current partition scheme you've posted would be sub-optimal if it does have 4096

Today our server had seriuos problems, we had to reinitiate it and run fsck manually. Dou you think it's an ext3, kernel (vanilla 2.4.19) or hardware bug? Plan for libguestfs 1.26
It has been 3 months since the last stable release of libguestfs. I'd like to plan a new 1.26 release towards the middle/end of next month. There are some virt-builder features I'd like to get in before then: - virt-builder needs to be able to use Linux distro published cloud images as a source (without requiring a lot of manual config as now) - virt-builder must be able to

Hoaglin Outlier Method
I am a new user of R so please bear with me. I have reviewed some R books, FAQs and such but the volume of material is great. I am in the process of porting my current SAS and SVS Script code to Lotus Approach, R and WordPerfect. My question is, can you help me determine the best R method to implement the Hoaglin Outlier Method? It is used in the Appendix A and B of the fo llowing link.

nls, restrict parameter values
Hi, I posted a question (bellow) a few weeks ago and had a reply (thanks Christian) that partly solves the problem, but I still would like to be able to restrict some of the independent variables in a nls model to be always >0, (is there a way to do it)?? Thanks, Angel >From: "Christian Ritz" <ritz at dina.kvl.dk> >To: "Angel -" <angel_lul at
