Estimating backup usage with dir-merge filter
I use --filter='dir-merge .backup-filter" to allow my users to
designate portions of their home directories that should be excluded
from my rsync-based backup system. I'm looking for a way to
periodically generate a report that shows the amount of backup space
being used by each user. I've tinkered with writing my own script
that processes any filter files into --exclude

Slow writes from MS-DOS LanMan Client to Samba server
Hello together,
well since I'm close to the despair with my problem I wanna
describe it here and maybe anyone has a good idea.
As the subject already told you I'm trying to connect from a
MS-DOS Client to my Samba Server. I'm running a smbd 2.0.5a on a
AMD K6-III machine which has two IBM 16.8 GB IDE drives and is
connected to over a 3com 3c905b with 100Mb to a fullduplex hub.
So far I

Win Xp logon issues
When I type the user name and password to logon onto our network (samba is
the pdc) it takes a long time to login. How can I go about speeding this up?
Is it a Win Xp issue or do I need to tweak samba? Also, when I login in to
an XP machine I get a script (looks like some sort of logon script) that
shows up in notepad on the desktop and stays there until I close it. What is
this and how can I

get.hist.quote - is great, but am I missing something?
I find it's just great to be able to say:
  library(tseries)
  x <- get.hist.quote(instrument="ongc.ns")
and it gets a full time-series of the stock price of the symbol
ongc.ns from Yahoo quote.
However, once my hopes have been raised by such beauty :-) I get
disappointed when I do

Hello All,
I am trying to compile Samba on POSIX under OpenVMS on a DEC 2000 AXP, however I am having difficulty defining the right FLAGSM and LIBSSM in the Makefile. So thus I'm having trouble getting the correct #includes, can anyone help?

IRQ Problems
Hello
I just installed a TE110P in a Dell Poweredge 750 (rackmount), which
is connected via crossover T1 cable to a adit 600. Anyway, I've
encountered an array of errors, which I believe I have narrowed down
to the 22 IRQ misses I encounter on zttool. I've noticed that the
te110p and the usb device share an IRQ. Could that be the source of my
woes? Would disabling the usb device in the

ov_read() reading too little.
Hi,
I've ditched the idea of calling the oggvorbis .dlls, and I'm compiling
the 1.0beta3 source into my own dll. After opening as "rb" instead of
"r", the ov_open() call works. However, ov_read() seems to consistently
read less data than I ask for. My buffer is enough to hold two seconds
of data, 16 bit 44k mono, that's 176400 bytes. The first call to

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,
chris

Feature request: don't fail if using -z from --with-included-zlib=yes to --with-included-zlib=no
Hello,
I'm one of the Debian maintainers of rsync and I'm currently
investigating the switch from "--with-included-zlib=yes" to "no" for
the next stable release (ETA 2021). So basically I'm investigating
what are the impacts of using upstream's zlib instead of rsync's
bundled one.
For the investigation I did simple transfers (1 file) using both

Making the video plugin + patched MPlayer work with other backends
Hi,
I'm wondering how I can make my patched up mplayer work with other
MPlayer frontends, such as mplayer-plugin, GMPlayer, SMPlayer and
KMPlayer. When I play a video using mplayer normally with:
mplayer video.ext,
It detects the compiz video output and works fine, however when it is
called from other players (AFAIK, it just creates a window then asks
mplayer to display in it) with mplayer

Support 56kHz to 19.2kHz gain analysis
Copy additional filter values from Foobar2000 as found in
<http://code.google.com/p/sirens2/source/browse/trunk/libwavpack-4.32.psp/wvgain.c?r=32>
to allow metaflac to perform gain analysis on high sample rate audio.

Sound shuts off when going past the main menu in MGS1
I've got Metal Gear Solid running fairly smoothly in Wine 1.3.31 on Mac OSX Snow Leopard, with no instability or crashes so far. When I start the game, the sound acts as it should-- however, going past the main menu (such as to Briefing or New Game) causes the sound to stop working. How can this issue be fixed?
Here's my console output:

Support 28kHz, 56kHz and 112kHz gain analysis
David Robinson kindly provided me the filter values for 28 kHz sampling rate and I have inserted the filter values into the gain analysis table.
Following the previous patch:
http://lists.xiph.org/pipermail/flac-dev/2012-January/003067.html
extend the supported sample rates to cover all rates supported in Foobar2000:
192000 = 4 x 48000
176400 = 4 x 44100
144000 = 4 x 36000
128000 = 4 x 32000

OggPCM : Need more justification for chunked data
Hi Rene,
we have discussed the issue of different formats per channel, e.g. different sampling rates. It was not clear whether with PCM sampling of devices this is actually a common (or even used) case. Do you know how multi-channel sound is sampled? Is it created with different widths/rates on different channels?
If it is not a common case, we can leave the solution to different streams and
