locking problems with samba 2.2.1a
Hello all,
I have a samba 2.2.1a server running as the PDC of my
network on a Mandrake 8.0 system with a reiserFS
partition. I am serving for the win98 clients a small DOS
clipper program with a DBF database. The programs run
well on the workstations when there is only one user
using it, when another user try to use the same program
it starts to get very slow. I think this is a lock

Problem with samba 2.2.4 and Mandrake 8.2
Hello all,
I updated my mandrake 8.2 samba from version 2.2.3a to 2.2.4, using mandrake cooker package, but after the update my
win98 clients can not logon on the server any more, the clients can't even find the pdc, because i get a big time from
the time that the user type his username and pass, and the logon error message. So is this a problem with mandrake's
package or the logon

"could not connect to host - localhost"
Hi All:
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 (downloaded) and the install went fine.
Configuring Samba however is another story. I get the message "could not
connect to host - localhost" on the Linux box. I cannot see the network
from the Linux system. The Linux system is visable from Win'98SE as are the
shares but I cannot access them "password is incorrect".

Hey everyone, I'm trying version 1.0rc2, via the rpm at ATrpms. I'm running on CentOS
4.3 on an Opteron system. I have this running stably on a 32 bit system, but I'm
crashing constantly on a 64 bit system.
Here's what I'm getting in my mail logs when I try to log in via IMAP:

Problems adding a user
I am having problems adding a user. Here is some background: OK this is my
first attempt to build a Samba server so be gentle.
Operating System: Fedora Core 3
Samba version: 3.0.10-1.fc3
I have set up a Stand-alone server to support my 4 client machines (all
WinXP boxes w/o a domain). I had some difficulties getting things to work
and eventually traced them down to a Firestarter

Is it possible to map shares via Network Neighborhood?
We're running Samba 2.2.2 over an NT network. Our clients use Win95 (for
the time being) and I wondered how we config Samba so they can map the
shares using network neighborhood. We can map fine through MS-DOS, but
when I try, for example, to map E drive to \\nfssrv\ads share via network
neighborhood (where we ARE able to see the shares), it says
E: is already connected to .

Network Neighborhood
Hello, sorry for this posting, I know you must have answered this
hundreds of times, but I cannot get my samba servers to appear on the
network neighborhood on the W95 client machines. Can anyone tell what?s
missing from my smb.conf files?
The problem should be the same on all of the samba servers, how do I
have to configure samba to show up in the network neighborhood?
Thanx in advance.

Servers disappear from Network neighborhood
I am using Samba-PDC-LDAP with samba-3.0.20b-1. On my file servers I am
using samba-3.0.10-1.4.
I'm not sure exactly what is happening but every couple of weeks the
file servers disappear form network neighborhood. I checked browstat on
my Windows system and it points to my PDC as the master browser and I
checked the wins.dat file on my PDC and the systems were there. I did
not check

Network neighborhood problems
I have setup a small office of 6 win95/98 workstations and a Samba share
(SuSE, Samba 2.0.6) on a P90 with 32MB of RAM and 2, 2GB HD?s. File sharing
and PDC functions work perfectly (better than any NT machine). However, I
cannot get the samba computer to show up in network neighborhood. I set the
netbios name to SAMBA and wins = yes. When I go to start => run and type

Samba 2.0.7 Network Neighborhood problem
Does anyone know how I can fix the following problem?
Server running Solaris 5.7 with samba 2.0.7, as a client, installed does not
show up in the Network Neighborhood's workgroup. Server's IP address was
changed, samba 2.0.7 was added and now it does not work. You can get to the
server by typing it in by hand \\<server-name> or <server-ip> but it does not

Samba4 DC is not visible in network neighborhood
Greetings, All!
Is there at last a solution? I've only found questions, in the list, and on
the network.
The issue is that DC built on Samba4 does not report to network browsers
neither it is participating in election to become browser itself.
Consequently, it is not visible in the neighborhood neither on Windows, nor on
Linux.
I've managed to force a second Linux host (member server)

Samba & Network Neighborhood
Hello!
I am puzzled here - I have two Samba systems ; one on each
different network that I am working with. One of them allows
local Windoze 95 machines to view the server via network
Neighborhood; the other does not. In both networks, I am
able to mount shares.
I have checked options; as many as I could think of, but no
luck. I am stumped. Both of them are configured as NT

Network Neighborhood shows Linux icon doesn't allow to open, debug Marathon
After going through the /usr/doc/samba-1.9.17p4/DIAGNOSIS.txt file
(GREAT debug/diagnostic tool!!!!!!!) I'm closer than ever!!!!!!!!
I now SEE THE Linux machine name in my Network Neighborhood!!!!!!!!! I
can ping both machines without any problem from both machines (W98 and
Red Hat 5.1).
I have edited the registry to allow plain text passwords.
When I try net view from my W98 machine I see
