Win2k auth on named share fails on mixed Windows network.
Hi there, Background: Samba 3.6.6 compiled from source on Debian Squeeze using the Debian- installed Kerberos (1.8.3) libraries. Running in an Active directory domain with mixed Win2k Server and Win2k3 Server DCs. Yes, I've been trying to persuade them. Both WINS and DNS name resolution work on the system. Samba uses the DCs for WINS, and the DCs are also name servers with an additional

FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim, Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like --> hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause... Question on security issue alert from recent centos-announce
What exactly does the announcement mean to the CentOS community? >From what point in the past to what point present/future should the user community be concerned? Once you find the final culprit, how sure will you be whether any issue is/was malicious vs benign? Do you perform regular server checksums to compare what _might_ have changed (i.e. tripwire, etc)? What is the level and

Tripwire mess..
This may be, or may not be a security issue, however, since alot of people still use tripwire-1.2 or lesser versions(this is what shipped with R.H. Linux 5.2 at least), they might be interested in following detail: Chuck Campbell (campbell@neosoft.com) pointed me out that tripwire dies with coredump on R.H. linux, if it hits a filename containing 128-255 characters. Playing a bit with debugger I

Need a little kick start to compile appletalk module
RHEL 4 (and thus CentOS 4) do not have appletalk module included. CentOSPlus rather thoughtfully has the 'unsupported' version which would have the appletalk module but I have been unable to get the old megaraid driver to run compiled from the kernel-devel for these 'unsupported' kernels. Thus I would love to simply compile the appletalk module myself from the standard

tripwire / .xauth$$$$ problem on Centos5
Dear All, I'm using Centos5 to run a firewall, and as part of the intrusion detection apparatus, I use tripwire (tripwire-2.4.1.1-1.fc6.x86_64.rpm - as made for fedora core 6, and then tweaked with my own twpol.txt). My problem, is that when I su to root, a .xauth file is created with a random tail name - i.e. /root/.xauthyN4aHS or /root/.xauth1sGdFh and this causes tripwire to

Yum update changes inode of file
Hi folks, on CentOS 6.5 I run tripwire software which verifies data integrity. My system is automatically updated by yum (as far as I understand the /etc/cron.daily/0yum.cron is responsible for the regular system updates). After a system update I'm then notified by tripwire about the changes on the file system. By browsing those tripwire reports I found that there are files which did

Samba 2.2.12 Hardware Migration Policy Issue Win2K
Hello All, I had been successfully running Samba 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 4.7 box for a couple years using roaming profiles. The box was functioning as PDC. The hardware was getting old; I needed to migrate to a new server. So, I built a FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE box on some relatively modern hardware and installed Samba 2.2.12. I copied the master.passwd file to the new box, did the pwd_mkdb, also copied

NT Domain Controllers, samba, and Win2k clients
We recently started rolling out Win2k pro with new clients and have an established NT network. We are also a UNIX shop and are running samba 2.2.4 on AIX 433 (compiled with GCC 295 I believe) currently as a BDC. Seems as though when we introduced our new win2k pro clients in to the network our samba shares became amazingly slow. They take about two minutes to show up, if at all on the

rpmbuild a kernel module
We've been down this path before and I got things working but am not self-sufficient which is where I would like to be. Problem is new kernel 2.6.9-22 and I need 2 modules installed that aren't part of the RHEL kernels. 1 - megaraid for older non-supported megaraid cards. I have the source and can compile the modules and make them work no problem. We have archives in the mail list for

Tripwire Question
I'm trying to run tripwire on a RHEL 5.4 box. I'm new to it. I'm getting errors: The object: "/ora" is on a different file system...ignoring. For one thing, it's not a different file system. It's not any different than the root partition, that tripwire will monitor. And I want tripwire to monitor it. I've been googling around, and have seen this error in

Tripwire for CentOS
Hi, I literally have about 36 machines running CentOS on a private network, and will probably change the remaining 30 or so away from Whitebox or RH in the near term. One thing I just noticed was when I tried to search out Tripwire RPM's, that none seemed evident. Can anyone point me in the direction of an Tripwire RPM that works with CentOS 4.3, or advise me on how to create one from the

tripwire alternative
Hello all, Years ago, I used to work with tripwire for system monitoring. Last time I checked with "yum search tripwire", there is no hit. IIRC, it used to be packed by default on older Redhat distros. Any suggestion for an alternative of tripwire for my CentOS 5.6? Upcoming Tripwire Port Upgrade
I have an updated tripwire port which I'd like to release for testing prior to replacing the existing and currently broken tripwire port. I've tested it under the upcoming 6.1, which it seems to work well in my test environment and will commence testing under 4.11-STABLE, the upcoming 5.5, and 7.0-CURRENT. The things that are on my todo list are: - Fully test under 4.11-STABLE. -

Check integrity or rootkits on remote server?
Hello, when one has physical access to a computer, he can run something like tripwire, with keys and checksum on a separate, write-only media, to verify the integrity of the system. What if the system is a remote one (in my case Centos 4.3 on a User Mode Linux VPS some hundred of KMs from here)? Does it still make sense to run tripwire remotely? If yes, how, since you cannot plug a floppy or

OS X slow with Samba server
I have an Apple iBook running OS X 10.2 connected to my network via an 802.11b wireless network. When I transfer files via SMB with my Windows 2000 computer, the speed seems reasonable. However, when I connect to a share on my Debian (x86) box (kernel 2.4.19) running Samba 2.2.3a-12 for Debian, the speed is only about a sixth as fast (transferring files to or from the Win2k box is about 6
