Samba WINS issues over VPN
I am running Samba 3.4.8 as a PDC on Solaris 10. I recently made this the WINS master- previously the BDC (Samba 3.0.37 on another Solaris 10 server.) I also use Sonicwall ipsec VPN for remote access (Windows XP clients.) The sonicwall client creates a virtual NIC on the client so that the client can have an IP address directly on the company LAN (ie. the same LAN as the samba

WINS question
Hello Have a trouble. I have mashine with two interfaces. Samba running at both with the same name of computer. In wins-servers wins.dat i see next string: "GRAND#20" 1044171787 192.168.1.1 192.168.2.1 46R It's ok. current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this: DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

Samba 3.0/wins.dat - 'Old' IP being served
Hi all, We have a weird problem, Samba is providing an outdated IP address for a client (XP Pro) machine. This means that the client machine is not contactable by the other machines on the network. The IP is that which was previously used when connecting via the company VPN, although the machine has/is now plugged onto the company network and had has new IP via DHCP. This problem continues

Samba BDC in the same subnet not getting connection requests
Hi, I have a Samba 3 PDC running with around 20 Windows XP/2K clients. The PDC and the clients are in different subnets. I recently decided to add a Samba 3 BDC in the same subnet as the clients, to give some failover and also to reduce across-switch traffic. After creating the BDC, I restarted one of the clients but don't see it establishing connection with the BDC, instead it connects as

WINS problems
Hello, Is it possible to add some static entries to the WINS database? We would like to add a few (logon-)server entries to it, when wins starts up. Why? We have several Samba servers who act as logon server on different subnets for different domains. Each logon server also acts as a local WINS server. It doesn't seem possible, not even with the options 'remote announce' or

WINS problem discovered and fixed!! browsing speedup of 20X for large networks
Ok, after several months of pulling my hair out I finally fixed WINS and browsing at out Univesity. It ended up being an acutal bug, er bad code segment. To explain we have a large number of clients ~1000+ at any one time over 6 subnets. Browsing was spuratic at best. nmbd sucked up %70 of the proccessing power of a sparc 5. Well after serious investigation I traced it down to two lines of

"Phanton" domain controller problem...
Hi, Recently I reinstalled the OS on my Samba PDC, letting Linux FC3 installer do it's thing then overwriting the smb.conf with my old one. Now I find that although it tries but can't become Domain master browser again, although it is happy to become a local master, a login server and to serve files. The reason given in the log files is that there is another PDC on the submet at

nmbd Problem
Hello, I am using samba 2.0.4b on Linux 2.0.36. Since I changed some of the parameters in my smb.conf I have a very strange Problem. Everytime my Samba-Box wins the browselist election process two nmbds are started and my WinXX-Clients do not get access to samba (I could see the server but not access the shares nor login to the domain). smbclient -L server from server works fine. Unable to join domain : Migrating from Ubuntu to CentOS (WinXP Client)
Hi, I am migrating a ubuntu server to a centos one. The ubuntu server is working and new server even tough it's running I can't join the domain from a new machine. Windows user unable to change password over VPN with samba 3.6.20
I realize this is not a strictly a samba "problem" but I am hoping that there is a samba solution. I have a samba 3.6.20 PDC. I am running WINS. We use an IPSec client VPN to allow users with Windows 7 laptops to connect to the office remotely. The windows 7 laptops are joined to the Samba domain. Password expiration policies are enforced. When you login to

Sluggish server response
A user who had not been using the server for about half an hour had to wait for over a minute before the samba server would respond. This is using samba3-server-3.0.2a-2mdk. I hope to upgrade to 3.0.4 as soon as Buchan has the RPM ready. In the below log, the user tried to log in at about 10:27 or so. I think I'm not learning anything from this log, so I've also attached part of

Don't understand why "process_node_status_request: "
One of my samba Domain controlers is trying to reach two IP addresses of 192.168.221.1 and 192.168.91.1. The samba server is not even on a 192.168 subnet. It is currnetly on a 172.16.12.x subnet. How can I trace this down? Why would the server look to access a 192.168 subnet? Can someone just point me in the right direction? Thanks for any info Here is a snipit from the nmbd log. If you
