Supermicro SAS/SATA controllers?
The standard controller that has been recommended in the past is the
AOC-SAT2-MV8 - an 8 port with a marvel chipset. There have been several
mentions of LSI based controllers on the mailing lists and I''m wondering
about them.
One obvious difference is that the Marvel contoller is PCI-X and the LSI
controllers are PCI-E.
Supermicro have several LSI controllers. AOC-USASLP-L8i with the

On very different journalling activity on 2 servers.
Hello Folks,
We have 2 (identical hardware) busy public 2U rack servers, both have
several hundred users & peak email (for example) deliveries at 300/5min
during the daytime.
Both servers run RAID1 over 2 EIDE disk drives.
One server is fine - it never has problems - it is running RH7.3 and CPU
loads are normal.
The other server has constant disk activity & kjournald at CPU load of

ext3 and powersave
Hi,
This is probably a silly question, but, does ext3 allow ide drives to go
int powersave mode? Thinking of upgrading my home linux router to ext3,
but I'm wondering if it'll keep my drives awake all the time. I have ext3
running on several servers at work, and some of my workstations too. I
can't tell for certain if the drives on my workstations go into powersave
now that i've

ashift and vdevs
zdb -C shows an shift value on each vdev in my pool, I was just wondering if
it is vdev specific, or pool wide. Google didn''t seem to know.
I''m considering a mixed pool with some "advanced format" (4KB sector)
drives, and some normal 512B sector drives, and was wondering if the ashift
can be set per vdev, or only per pool. Theoretically, this would save me
some size on

SAS/short stroking vs. SSDs for ZIL
Hi,
as I have learned from the discussion about which SSD to use as ZIL
drives, I stumbled across this article, that discusses short stroking
for increasing IOPs on SAS and SATA drives:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/short-stroking-hdd,2157.html
Now, I am wondering if using a mirror of such 15k SAS drives would be a
good-enough fit for a ZIL on a zpool that is mainly used for file

Best Hardware for Asterisk Server?
Hey guys,
In your experience what is the best way to go for a production asterisk box
in your offices? With desktop prices so cheap you might think that you
should just buy them off the shelf, but is that really a reliable machine?
Anything you can tell me that would assist me in deciding the best way to
obtain and maintain these boxes would be very helpful. I have even looked
into building

Re: Ext3-users digest, Vol 1 #793 - 9 msgs
It is most likely that your grub.conf file is _different_ than menu.lst.
grub.conf is just a dummy symlink made by RH under /boot/grub as well as
under /etc to make peoples lives easier. (Or harder as the case maybe)
If the contents of grub.conf is what you want to use for your bootup
listing..
cd /boot/grub
mv menu.lst menu.lst.bak
cp grub.conf menu.lst
rm grub.conf
#optional step
ln -sf

Link for Logical Volume has incorrect SE Linux context
Hi
A few days ago we rebooted a server and found that one of the Logical
Volumes would not mount at boot, but mounted cleanly manually.
So I traced the problem to SE Linux. Specifically the context for
/dev/mapper/VolGroup01-lv_
staff is wrong.
s -lsahZ /dev/mapper/VolGroup01-*
lrwxrwxrwx. root root system_u:object_r:quota_db_t:s0
/dev/mapper/VolGroup01-lv_staff -> ../dm-25

ext3 on a KT133A chipset
Hi,
With 2.4.14 and the ext3 patch on redhat7.2 with my KT133A Athlon system,
the kernel panics on boot up just after starting init.
I removed the ext3 patch and the kernel did not panic (However I could not
mount my ext3 file systems :) ).
Is this a proble with ext3 of something different?
Thanks for any help.

All:
I cvsup'ed earlier this evening and am still able to reproduce this
panic at will. Command line, panic backtrace, dmesg, ldd output,
and mplayer version follow. If more information is needed, just let
me know.

New ZFS Intent Log (ZIL) device available - Beta program now open!
The DDRdrive X1 OpenSolaris device driver is now complete,
please join us in our first-ever ZFS Intent Log (ZIL) beta test
program. A select number of X1s are available for loan,
preferred candidates would have a validation background
and/or a true passion for torturing new hardware/driver :-)
We are singularly focused on the ZIL device market, so a test

Jumped from 1.2.7 to 1.4.19, missing CLI colors
Hi,
I`ve just made a leap from * 1.2.7 to 1.4.19. It took a while to fix all
the deprecated stuff, but everything seems to be working fine now, except
for a little tiny thing. I lost all color in my CLI, which makes it harder
to debug. Is there something that needs doing? I didn't explicitely disable
colorization from the command line, and I did try using nocolor=no in the
config files.
