Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into the problem: First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our RoadRunner cable modem. Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.

Still can't make it work (LONG)
Well gang, I'm back and still haven't figured out why Samba isn't working with my Windoze PC's. I though I was close a couple times, but now I'm back to square 1. So now I'm going to spill as much information on you guys as I can in the hope that someone will notice what I'm doing wrong and help me get this thing running. Here are the computers on my home network:

Printing woes
Hi, I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected bits of /etc/smb.conf and

routing in xen 3.0 domU: icmp gets routed, but tcp/ip only partially
Hello folks, I have a really strange routing problem that no amount of googling and experimenting has been able to solve. Then again, I''m new to Xen and "advanced" networking, so I could be missing something very basic. Summary: an unprivileged domU with PCI frontend for a NIC is used as a router; icmp gets routed, but tcp/ip only partially. I''m using a xen-unstable

smbd weirdness
I have two identical installations of samba v2.25 on linux boxes. On one system everything works fine but on the other, copies of smbd start but never terminate. The result is that the winduhs boxes that are trying to access the samba share get locked out and never find the samba server. The configurations of the two systems are identical and I am unable to determine why one works and the other

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet 127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a given time? I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN). I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs assume

diskless windows
Hi. I wanted to set diskless win95 but I read the list archives and I decided not to do it diskless. So I tried diskless windows but I got a problem. I do this. 1.- I did booting images with bootware proms. 2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull because the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT

IE Failure to Import Data
Hello, I've installed IE in Debian Etch, only because the real estate websites I must access absolutely require IE. I used IEs4Linux to install IE6, and it went flawlessly. IE works fine to surf websites. I must pull a report using ToolkitCMA.com. This site installs alot of IE addons (mainly report templates and an ActiveX control to print pdf's), and the install of these seems to go

cygwin rsync performance and bandwidth between two w2003 servers
I have two Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server with 2x 3,0 GHz P4 and 4 GB RAM. On each server rsync runs as cygwin daemon (rsync version 2.6.6; protocol version 29). The two servers are connected through a 2 MBit VPN link. When I sync a single large file or a whole directory, rsync only uses 50% of the available bandwidth. When I do the same between windows and linux server, rsync takes the

ipchains iproute2 and port based routing
Hi all! I try to make port based routing, because a have two connections to the internet. My router is a "one disk floppy router for linux". It is a big router project www.fli4l.de. I try also to make a opt, it is like a plugin for this router. This project uses Kernel 2.2.19 compiled with libc5 (because it is small and you can use one floppy disk). At the moment, iproute2 is not

Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been ready to go. This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup because when I kill iptables samba works. When iptables IS running however, it will respond

Config question.
Can anyone tell me what the absolute minimally permissive ipchains rule would be to allow tinc to operate correctly between two hosts. If we were to presume each tinc host had a default-deny policy, what ipchains command(s) would allow tinc to do its thing? I've scanned the docs on the tinc site and not found the answer- sorry if I'm blind or dumb. Thanks, Patrick - Tinc:

samba and firewalls
I have a little home network with one Windows 98 PC and a pc running linux. My idea is that as soon as DSL is finally made available to my area (which I keep getting told will be real soon now) I want to route it through the linux box and up to the Windows PC, using IP masquerading, etc. At present I have samba enabled on the unix box which opens up several worthwhile conveniences to me:

Samba AD with external DNS server
Hallo, We have Samba4 (Sernet, Version4.1) on a Debian Wheezy server. There we try to use our Infoblox (It is our primary and secondary DNS server) as an external DNS server for the active directory on the samba4 server. It doesn?t matter which setup option (Samba_internal, bind_dlz, none) we use it doesn?t work. Harry
