Login Failure
Hi, I've setup my Mandrake 10.0 box to use winbind authentication. However, I noticed that root with local files password login fails at first try after reboot. Also there's no way I can authenticate using root when screen is locked. My nsswitch.conf looks like passwd files nis nisplus winbind Won't this first they local files then winbind? Regards, Norman

Help with authenticating against Active Directory.
Hello all, I'm trying to authenticate shell login's against an MS-ADS. I don't have admin access to the ADS, but I can talk to the admins. I have gotten as far as getting authentication working, but the uid's depend on the order of login. ie: the first guy to login gets 10000, the next gets 10001, etc. The problem I have with this is that I want to share the home

wbinfo_group.pl / wbinfo -r not working!
Hello, I have been using samba to authenticate my squid users to Active Directory. Because of the amount of users, I would like to set up my ACL's based on groups, rather than individual user accounts. I have successfully joined my samba box to our windows domain (2k). For some reason I had to enter the domain controller name instead of the domain name when doing so. I am now having issues

security = ads parameter not working in samba 4.9.5
Lets start by removing this: krb5-server-1.15.1-37.el7_7.2.x86_64 And if it is installed on the DCs remove it from them as well. Not sure if I asked this, but where did you get the Samba packages from ? Can I also point out, when I ask for the output of the script in a post here, I mean here, not somewhere on the internet that can and will disappear. If needed, I can then review the output

access samba 3.0 shares from Win2K, Win3K, WinXPProf. using netbios name
Hi: I have a Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Ed. as Domain controller, an its current domain functional level is 'Windows Server 2003'. Also, I have a RedHat Linux 7.3 server with SaMBa (tested with rpm samba-3.0.0-2, and compiling the samba source code). Using Winbindd in nsswitch.conf
Hello, all-- I've a question regarding using WINS for resolving names while on the unix box. As I understand it, you're supposed to add something to the /etc/nsswitch.conf file, but it's not clear to me whether it's supposed to be 'wins', 'winbind', or 'winbindd' as in the following example: hosts: files wins nisplus nis dns hosts: files winbind

Problem with User and Group Ownership listing
I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations cannot be moved straight across. When I do a listing of a share directory that should have user and group ownership determined by LDAP, I get the uidNumbers and

LDAP users/groups not showing up with nis, pam, & ldap
I am trying to configure NIS, PAM, & LDAP on a CentOS 6.2 host. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4, but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations are a little different. Currently, local users and groups are showing up but not LDAP users. When I do a /getent passwd/ and/getent group/ I don't get LDAP users. When I do

Bug on PAM_Winbind ?
Hello guys, I am using PAM (0.82) to authenticate (samba) workgroup users and it works fine (pam_smbpass). But after joining a domain and start using pam_winbind too, pwauth (2.3.10) get a segmentation fault when trying to authenticate any workgroup or domain user. What happens is that it does authenticate the user successfully, but when it calls pam_end() to release its resources, it crashes.

LDAP and Linux compatibility
While this is a fairly old thread, there may still be people looking for the *correct* answer for this question (at least I were 10 minutes ago...) So, the problem is that some applications (acroread7 in this case) refuse to start when run on a NIS or LDAP (client?), with a message containing: GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id See more about the problem in previous

NIS+ support in samba-2.0.5a
Hi all, I'm a little confused over what exactly the NISPLUS and NISPLUS_HOME support options actually mean. I'm hoping somebody can shed a little light on this. Our main samba server is a Solaris 2.7 machine (using NIS+ for passwords, etc, etc.) running samba 2.0.5a. I have recently been investigating a problem where, after a reboot of the server, various 3rd party products (POP, IMAP,
