question for file attributes (atime, ctime)
Hi,
I looked though documentation and also checked last 9 months of
archives, but could not find the corresponding information. We are
having an issue with incremental backup with arkeia. Arkeia checks if
ctime/mtime of the file are changed, if so, it backs up.
I realized that when I ran rsync from a cammnd line, it changed ctime,
and preserved atime of the file in a destination as

dovecot logs to audit.log not to maillog
Hello,
I have a curious phenomenon.
Dovecot logs normally to /var/log/maillog.
If I restart my server, dovecot loggs to /var/log/audit/audit.log.
If I restart dovecot, dovecot loggs to /var/log/maillog again.
And I think, wenn logrotate is restarting, dovecot logs to audit.log.
But I don't know why.
Any Ideas?
greetings Ralf

[Fwd: question for file attributes (atime, ctime)]
It looks like I need to elaborate further to get a feedback.
I checked the rsync source code and it is using utime() to restore
atime file attribute. It is fine to change ctime for that transferred
file in this case.
What we are having problem is that when rsync gets kicked off and
transfers one file to the destination, this action changes ctime of
"all" files in the same

backup to disk
Hi,
I'm looking for common practices for backing up user data to disk. My
user data is all in /home. I'm also interested in what folks are doing
for things backing up os and configs.
Any pointers on setting up rsync, cpio, etc would be appreciated.
Pointers to good how-to's especially welcome.
Currently we're using Arkeia Network Backup (commercial product with

Ext3 filesystem access after downgrade from v4.2 to v3.6
I need to downgrade a system from Centos x4.2 to v3.6 (x86) due to
performance problems with Arkeia Network Backup and AIT-4 tape drives.
The backup database is stored on a v4.2 created ext3 partition. When
accessing this partition after the downgrade, Centos complains on boot
that
fsck.ext3: Filesystem has unsupported feature(s) (/dev/sda5)
*fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck! [fail]

File names and e-acute char
Hi.
Samba 1.9.15p8 under IRIX 6.1 (yes I know, it's old stuff ...)
The susers on Windows 9x/WindowsNT just put their strange file name or
directory name (like /usr/people/mesure_?t? ) on the IRIX. However, from
the IRIX side, it's impossible toaccess to such files/directory.
What's more, my ARkeia backup client stalls on such a name and fouled up
my backup database...
NB: Oops: for

Hello,
now I have done this:
under http://wiki.dovecot.org/Logging?highlight=(logging)
Rotating Logs
is the following string
-----------------------
/bin/kill -USR1 `cat /var/run/dovecot/master.pid 2>/dev/null` 2>
/dev/null || true
------------------------
This string I have insert in
/etc/logrotate.d/syslog under the lines:
postrotate
/bin/kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslogd.pid

Linux/Windows Domain Controller
Hello Together,
we are updating at the moment our old 2012 DCs to 2022 DCs. For a test
scenario we were tempted to finally try for dc03 and dc04 a linux
machine as DC. But at the point we tried to join the machine as a dc we
go prompted by the ugly message:
DsAddEntry failed with status WERR_ACCESS_DENIED info (8567,
'WERR_DS_INCOMPATIBLE_VERSION')
We investigated what might be the

Looking for server recommendations
We're going to replace an older Solaris7/Netbackup/TapeRobot server with
a new Centos box using backup-to-disk-to-tape (probably using Arkeia).
The specs are up in the air, but generally:
- CentOS/RHEL friendly (3Ware SATA? SCSI?)
- 2U/3U/4U-ish form factor
- hotswap RAID5
- dual PS, hotswap a plus
- USB2.0 port(s) (*)
To give you an idea of where I'm starting to look, take a gander at

dovecot vs. Outlook Mobile
Hi,
I am testing dovecot with Outlook Mobile 5 (OM5), which is currently
not working. OM5 connects, says "NOOP" and "CAPABILITY", does login
correctly and simply loggs out after that telling the user that it
could not download any messages. When I put an imapproxy[0] in front
of dovecot, OM5 works perfectly well. That leads me to the thought,
that something in the way dovecot

W2K Sp2 in NT4 domain and roaming profiles on samba 2.2.3a
Hello samba-insiders,
we have a WinNT 4.0 SP5 PDC and our samba 2.2.3a is member of the domain.
The roaming profiles of our clients stored on the samba 2.2.3a server.
All seams to be perfect but only clients with W2K SP2 cannot use there
roaming profiles.
---> "Access Denyed" is the W2K errro message.
But if the same user loggs on on a client machine with W2K SP1 all things
are ok.
