Samba serving files with *very* long access times
I access files on our Cray T3E from my Windows 2000 PC via a Samba share.
One of the volumes on the T3E is managed by Cray's Data Migration facility
(DMF). The majority of the DMF files are stored off-line and restored to
disk as necessary. This operation typically takes 3-5 minutes.
Normally when a Windows 2000 application tries to read data from one of the
off-line files--even if it's

Samba-related info on disconnected NT networkshares
The issue of disconnected networkshares (shares offered on an NT server) has
appeared on this mailinglist a few times. It is not a samba issue, but
it seems many here might benefit from the information given below anyways,
as I've never seen a solution to the problem come by.
Problem: Whenever there has not been any activity (file/network IO) to
or from a networkshare that is offered by an

Re: Looking for answers....
[Redirected to the general samba list]
One of the things which Samba provides is a facility
to run a "preexec" script before allowing a user to connect
to a directory, and refuse to make the conenction if
the script returns a non-zero result.
This can prevent someone from logging on twice,
limit them to specific hours, from conencting to
the wrong directory and so on.

Authentication problem when using LDAP
A colleague has seen a problem (with Samba 3.0), in using
LDAP.
A very simple version of the problem is as follows, where
he tries to authenticate a user "grw"

samba performance on uclinux embedded system
Hello,
Did anyone do some work on improving the samba
read/write performance?
We've got a board attached with an IDE hadisk, running
samba 2.0.7 on uClinux(NOMMU) OS, the IDE throughput:
10.5Mbps,ethernet speed: 16Mbps,Samba throughput(copy
file from WINDOWS PC to host board ): 600KByte/s,CPU
working at 120MHz, system SDRAM 16Mbyte.
Could anyone help to figure out where the bottleneck

Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
Hello,
I'm new to this list.
The NT folk here, are concerned about some timeout errors and stuff that appear
in their event viewer. They are building a case to convince management that
unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think
this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here.
We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg)

Many asterisk server behind a redirector?
If you have the need to implement 5 asterisk boxes each one handling
only 100 ulaw calls (same dialplan, etc.) logging to a six MYSQL server
, what do you use in *front* of the asterisks?
Codecs, hardware, etc is not important. The thing that Im trying to
figure out is how do I present the asterisk servers to a bunch of
phones and/or FXStoSIP boxes.
a sip proxy is not the solution because the sip

Cascade PDC and Samba 2.0.4b
A colleague just wrote and said he's had a problem with Samba using a

recently!
The symptom reported was, with security = domain and password server =

FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for WMP Supports Icecast2
Great news, but I can't get it to work.
Installed the plugin and typed a URL directly into File > Open URL, but
it sit's there connecting permanently. I'm using Windows XP SP2, WMP
10.
I tried a stream of a customer of mine using an icecast2 server.
http://boa.mediacast1.com:9292/stream.aac
This works in Winamp.

FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for WMP Supports Icecast2
Ok, I read the Read Me.
So icyx://boa.mediacast1.com:9292/stream.aac works.
I don't understand why the http syntax cannot be made to work. This
works fine for Ogg Vorbis streams using the Illumination DirectShow
filter.
Ross.

FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for WMP Supports Icecast2
A FREE AAC/aacPlus Plugin for Microsoft Windows Media Player that
fully supports the Icecast2 Server is available for download here:
http://www.orban.com/plugin
FYI:
This plugin supports .asx for Windows Media Player NOT .pls or .m3u.
Also streams can be opened directly by using newly created UIL
redirectors, e.g., icyx:// instead of http:// and rtpx:// instead of
rtsp://. This is all covered

Increase data length for SMB2 write and read requests for Windows 10 clients
Hello Jeremy,

It looks like applications could do something and give a hint to SMB3+
redirector, so far not quite sure how to make it,
per process monitor (procmon) could show that write I/O size seems
could be pass from the application layers,

DOS client - basic redirector
Hello,
As I mentionned in a previous mail, I cannot connect to Samba 1.9.18p7 using
a basic dos redirector and security set to user. I works with share security level or with
the full dos redirector which takes 90 k more precious memory ...
I got a answer telling me that the dos basic redirector is a piece of ... because
it always encrypt the password, even if instructed to use plain text ...
