How to enable both remote and local users?
Is there any way to enable both local (/etc/passwd or smbpasswd) users and users authenticated remotely by winbindd? I have a problem with samba-3.0.2a not recognizing local users at all, if winbindd is enabled (and vice versa, of course). However, I'd like to have local users take precedence over networked users, i.e. samba would let in a user, if he/she is a local one and only ask the

Inefficient Winbind behavior?
Hello all, I'm having an issue with Winbind and I'm not sure if it's occurring by design or not. My Samba server resides in a Windows NT domain and uses winbindd to authenticate to a mixed-mode 2003 domain over a trust relationship. Everything works the way it ought to. However, every so often my users experience delays of anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds when connecting to a share,

Inefficient Winbind behavior? Not sure if it posted 1 st time.
Thanks for the response, Jerry. Is there a way for me to verify this is happening? Winbindd has been running for a few days now, and I just did a netstat and the only connections to a DC are to the off-site one, the PDC. Thanks. validate root locally with winbind
I have set up winbind successfully, but every time I need to perform any task as root, winbind tries to login via the domain server, which gives an "incorrect password" error. Is there a way to set things up so that the root user is only checked against the local passwd/shadow files? -- Ramon Casha Malta Linux User Group (http://linux.org.mt)

still winbind! plz...
Hi everybody, I still have trouble gettin' winbind running correctly and as time passes by and all documentation and mailing lists have been read, things are getting really urgent... I think i should abstract the problem to the mininmun: winbind is up and running, wbinfo -u works, getenv password works, wbinfo -t states that ---> Secret is bad and winbind-logfile says to check

Winbind, RedHat 7.1, Pam 0.74-22 ohh so close to working
Hello, I have gone through the howto provided but I am not yet able to logon to my linux box using NT4 domain accounts. I can however authenticate to restricted shares and I can obtain groups and users via "getent" and "wbinfo -u". All I really need now is a working /etc/pam.d/login. I've tried examples from the howto as with others from the mailing list but I can not

Changing User password from ssh member server
Hi Rowland, This is a CentOS 6.7 server. I was able to make some progress. I have edited /etc/pam.d/system-auth, and now it looks like: auth required pam_env.so auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok try_first_pass auth requisite pam_succeed_if.so uid >= 500 quiet auth sufficient pam_ldap.so use_first_pass auth required pam_deny.so account

Questions about winbind idmap ldap
We are using W2K domain with Samba3 servers. The implementation of samba servers with winbind authentication was successful. Now we are looking for winbind idmap ldap backend for distributing winbind users ID's, and I have following question: 1. Do I need put all users from W2K domain to LDAP by hand (with export - import tools)? 2. Or it is possible to automatically put successfully

home directories with winbind
Hello all, I've installed samba-3.0.1 on a linux machine that has a role of domainmember in an NT domain. What I would like is that there would be nothing to do on the linux machine when adding a user in teh NT domain. For that I have started and configured winbind that works fine. But I want to create a share for each user on the NT domain. I have in my smb.conf a [homes] share, but when a

entering password twice
I might be asking this question the incorrect group but, here goes. I have successfully added a Debian 10 member (workstation) and made the /etc/pam.d files adjustments per the Debianwiki page https://wiki.debian.org/AuthenticatingLinuxWithActiveDirectory and Debian is allowing me to login with AD users and passwords except for one thing. I have to enter the password twice to login. Here are the

help with winbind/pam
Hello, I'm trying to get a debian sid box to authenticate against an NT4 domain. I've followed the instructions in the winbindd man page and I think I'm on the right track. However, I'm having problems with PAM. As the winbindd man page suggests, I edited the /etc/nsswitch.conf and added some winbindd related stuff to my smb.conf file. I also edited the /etc/pam.d/* files.

Changing User password from ssh member server
Hi, I am authenticating users on our linux servers using nslcd/pam_ldap. Authentication is fine, however, it is not possible for the user to change the password from the server. Is there a way to make it work ? Changing User password from ssh member server
I have removed use_auhtok from /etc/pam.d/system-auth and now passwd is "kind of" working... I am still able to login with my old password and the new one also. But only on the linux servers that are authenticating through LDAP. On my workstation only the old password (the one I was trying to change through passwd(ssh)) works. I have noticed that my user now has a userPassword

winbind/ windows ad issues
Hello, I want to do a single signon setup with samba/winbind and a windows2003 SBS. I have nearly everything up and running. wbinfo gives what I expected. When I try to sign on (su) with a windows account the follwoing happens: # su dkhan su: Authentication service cannot retrieve authentication info. (Ignored) So it recognizes me as windows account and pam somehow tries to authenticate the

Kerberos/LDAP authentication no more working in 5.6 ?
Hi all, I just upgraded more servers, and doing some tests I found that my setup for kerberos/ldap authentication against Active Directory is no more working. I don't know why... I followed some times ago scott Lowe blog for this setup : http://blog.scottlowe.org/2007/01/15/linux-ad-integration-version-4/ And it was working correctly until the upgrade. What is curious is that id command

wbinfo -u returns 0xc0000022
Hello, I am attempting to add a Redhat 9 box to our NT4 domain as a member server. I want to enumerate user and group info so I don't have to make two sets of user and group accounts. I've setup samba (version 2.2.7a) and pamd the way I think I'm supposed to, but wbinfo -u always returns 0xc0000022. I've found this particular error mentioned in a few articles, but applying the
