Server crashes during Roaming profile Transfer
I have a RH 6.0 (don't laugh) server I've set up. Hooked to the test machine its fine, but when I put in on the 3 machine network it did a few weird things:
1: Changed my Main User Profile on Machine #1 to what looks like a default profile. and When I login there no previous username in the Logon Box. (no windows Policies)
2: Crashes when Machine #2 of the machines logs in and is

Ethernet puzzle
So I just finished doing a fresh install of CentOS 6.3. The
machine has three ethernet ports in it: one on the motherboard (VIA
Rhine), and two add-on cards, an Intel Pro100 and an old SMC1255TX. When
CentOS comes up, this is what I see in the dmesg output:
# dmesg | grep eth

Roaming profiles
I want to setup a linux box with samba as a file and print server for a
LAN of 20 NT 4.0 SP3 workstations. I want the home direcotories to be on
the server the clients to have roaming profiles.
For this, do I have to make the linux box a domain controller? I want to
avoid it if I can, because the domain control code in not on the
production releases. I don't want to setup an NT server either.

Adaptec 4port tulip card - IRQ-Sharing dom0/domU
Hello,
I''m running xen-3.0.2-3 and try to share the 4 ports of a adaptec
4port ethernet card between dom0 and domU by using
pciback.hide. Therefor I had to modify the domU driver for the tulip
cards due to the fact that there is only one eeprom on the board and
all 4 ports of the card are using the same interrupt line. When
starting the dom0 tulip driver (unmodified) I get two working

Zsh fork bomb paniced my kernel.
Hi,
My machine just bombed when I did the following stupid command.
:(){:|:};:
Zsh chewed up everything on the machine...
I ran it knowing I'd probably have to reboot.
But, I hardly expected it to panic.
Or, was that normal?
Anyway, the following is some detail...
Please mail me if there is more I'm ment to do.
Thanks in advance :)

Slow transfer file between Windows and Samba PDC (2.2 .3a)
Guillaume
Found this in the Network Admin Guide -
http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/linag2/book/ch05.html#X-087-2-IFACE.IFCONFIG
"Receiver overruns usually occur when packets come in faster than the kernel
can service the last interrupt."
I think you definitely have a problem with your NIC on the Samba machine. I
would swap it out and/or change the cable and see if that cures things.

Errors on install...
Hi all,
I found the web site for R and decided to install it on my freebsd system;
however, I have run into 'permission problems' during execution. I do the
standard .configure, make, make check, make install and install into the
default location of /usr/local/... but when a normal user attempts to run
'R' I get the following:

Your trying to squeeze blood from a turnip (not tulip) by trying
to run 8 interfaces at once on that system.

network driver corruption? Interface disappeared
Hello,
I've got a very unusual network interface issue on centos5. I'm setting
up a router box, with two network interface cards, the first gets it's
information from a dhcp server, the second is statically configured. I have
no idea what happened, but yesterday the internal interface eth1 stopped
showing up. An ifconfig eth1 showed the interface not found, but an

ALTQ and cpufreq(4)
Hello,
I've met some quite strange reboots recently on my home gateway. I'm
trying to reduce its power consumption, so I've loaded the cpufreq(4) driver,
and enabled powerd. After this the box started to reboot randomly all over the
place. I started to think what can cause the trouble, removing the cpufreq(4)
support would be too trivial, so I've removed the ALTQ references from

Back to eth shuffling ...
So I'm back to this problem. A quick run down of what the original problem
was:
I have a machine that I'm configuring to use kickstart to setup. It has two
builtin ethernet ports (labeled ports 1 and 2) and I'm adding a third one
on its PCIe bus. Originally I was using an r8169 clone a default kickstart
always put it as eth0 with the builtin ones as eth1 and eth2 respectively.

rsync: error writing NNNN unbuffered bytes - exiting:Connection reset by peer -> NIC driver problem!
I was seeing rsync errors which caused my system installations to fail
repeatedly and absolutely. See the error I reported to this mailing
list back in June in the Forwarded Message below.
When I replaced my NIC cards (realtec chip, 8139too driver) with Linksys
cards (and Dec Tulip driver for linux) the problem ceased, rsync worked
like it should, and does so repeatedly.

multiple problems with fxp0 and 4.8/9-stable
I've spent the past four days or so updating machines here to 4.8/9-stable via
cvsup, and have done a complete make buildworld/kernel on each machine (some
SMP, some single processor). It seems something is broken with the latest fxp
driver, on each machine (different mobos and hardware configs) heavy network
traffic with fxp NICs causes timeouts and random kernel panics.

Two nmbd processes on 2.2.6
Hello,
I have downloaded and compiled 2.2.6 to replace my 2.2.6pre.
I spent a large part of the day debugging the startup script because it
seemed to always be starting two nmbd processes instead of one.
Eventually I tried running just /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd - and still got
two nmbd processes. Is this correct behaviour?
On the first server (Dell 4600) I thought it might be because it has

I need a litle help.
I'm trying to read a .dat file of about 71 MB using
