External journal on flash drive
Hi, I'd like to use a flash drive as a journal device, with the purpose of keeping the main disk drive spun down as long as possible. I have a couple of questions: 1) Does the journaling code spread write accesses to the journal device evenly, as I hope, or are there blocks that are particularly "hot"? I.e., do I have to worry about the flash device dying quickly because of

Bad directories appearing in ext3 after upgrade 2.4.16 -> 2.4.18+cvs
Hi, I recently upgraded one of my fileservers from 2.4.16 to 2.4.18 plus the ext3-cvs.patch that Andrew Morton pointed me to for addressing and assertion failure. Since then I have been getting lots of errors like: May 21 14:07:03 glass kernel: EXT3-fs error (device md(9,0)): ext3_add_entry: bad entry in directory #2945366: rec_len %% 4 != 0 - offset=0, inode=1886221359, rec_len=24927,

"htree_dirblock_to_tree: bad entry in directory" error
Hi. I woke up this morning to find a ton of waiting emails complaining that some cron jobs on my system couldn't run because one of my filesystems (ext3 on software RAID 1) was suddenly mounted read-only. Always nice when you're away from the server due to travel. ;^> I investigated in the logs and found: 2007-08-02 04:02:25 kern.crit www kernel: EXT3-fs error (device md2):

EXT3-fs error: ext3_readdir: bad entry in directory
Hi. IIRC, I had the same problem with 2.4.3 and ext2, I'm not sure if with the same directory entry, but at the time fsck fixed without any problems. I only know that the error again is with my Mozilla sources. The Mozilla sources are in another partition. I used lndir from my root fs to symlink everything and build it. At some point c++ segfaulted (happens a lot with my GCC 3.0), and I had

A filesystem under load put itself in readonly mode and the following can be found under dmesg.. any suggestions on root cause? hardware wise it's got a pair of PATA drives connected to a 3ware card in RAID10 configuration. 2.4.20: ext3/raid5 - allocating block in system zone/multiple 1 requests for sector]
(It was suggested I send a copy of this to ext3-users, so here it is - note that I need this RAID going so I've rebuilt with reiser, but would still appreciate suggestions; the message was original sent to the lkml) Hi, I've just built an 800GB RAID5 array and built an ext3 file system on it; on trying to copy data off the 200GB RAID it is replacing I'm starting to see errors of the

repomd.xml.asc BAD signature in CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-2003.iso
Hi list, I downloaded the CentOS-7-x86_64-Minimal-2003.iso ( sha256sum 659691c28a0e672558b003d223f83938f254b39875ee7559d1a4a14c79173193 ) and mount it on /mnt Unfortunately, It returned "BAD signature" when I verified the repodata/repomd.xml.asc So should I continue to use this ISO? Below is my procedure: # gpg --import /mnt/RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7 gpg: key F4A80EB5: public key

Ext3 Journal corruption on hitachi deskstars
I recently came across an enormous cluster of x86 clone machines running fedora core 1 (2.4.24) which have typically all intel or amd have VIA IDE chipsets. They frequently experience corrupted journals rendering the ext3 partition in read-only mode. More important than recovering the filesystem, I am interested in finding the root of the problem. The common hardware that all of these

Find/delete bad DNS Entry
Thanks for the reply Denis! I tried upgrading samba and it said "2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.16.04.13" is the latest version. The RSAT DNS Manager fails to list the contents of the zone. It actually kills the SMBD process when I try and I have to restart it. So I can't compare it to Apache Directory Studio. Is there some way to query the underlying samba DNS data store to find the
