winbind authentication infrequent failure
Hi,
I am running a RH9.0 server, using samba 2.2.7a. I use winbind to authenticate
pop3 clients (Courier IMAP through authpam, but I think that's irrelevant).
Users are defined in a NT4 domain.
Sometimes, I get a NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE error from pam_winbind.so. This
is not very frequent, but at about 1000 users (read: many authentication
request) it becomes a problem.
Could anyone help

Winbind Authentication on HP-UX 11 works
With the help Don McCall and other posts on the samba list we get
WINBIND and PAM to work on HP-UX 11.x servers to authenticate with NT
domain.
If any one wants the documentation or the binaries please e-mail me.
The only big question I have is, how can I logon to the HP-UX server
without having to specify the DOMAIN+ before the username. We can telnet
using DOMAIN+USERNAME, is there a way to

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering &
UserIDs .
For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access.
Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication.
I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways.
However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs,
then use User authentication

Winbind-Cyrus-Outlook
I have been using Winbind for some time. We are now looking to use IMAP to
replace Exchange. Currently we have configured Winbind to join our domain.
Shares work fine and the ability to assign rights from the command line work
fine for domain users is fine.
The problem is that when outlook sends the user name and password to Winbind
and PAM it bails out. When I see the users in Linux they

prefdm still unfinished?
After testing the beta of CentOS 5, i was a little surprised to notice that
the display manager part of the prefdm file in /etc/X11 was exactly like in
CentOS 4 / RHEL4 and previous versions including RH9.
it reads like this (added line numbers for reference):
14 # Run preferred X display manager

valid users and groups with winbind
Hi,
Just starting on this list.
I have samba (2.2.5a) on Linux/s390 and winbind authenticating and
providing shares.
I add the global to smb.conf:
valid users = '@Domain Users'
After that, I can no longer get the share even though I am in the 'Domain
Users' group.
# id poklcc+mikem
uid=10001(POKLCC+mikem) gid=10000(POKLCC+Domain Users)
groups=10000(POKLCC+Domain Users)

FW: WINBIND configuration and NT Authentication]
Thanks Mikko - pieced the 3 links you sent and got new configs...
Well..I have successfully got the PAM files so NT users can login from the
terminal as well as through the samba shares (no local users required),
including using the NT groups to provide share level permissions.
Now here is the next battle:
1. I can not access the shares using the linux local accounts

Win2k TS authentication probs / pw changing probs
Hi,
We are having problems with clients changing their passwords from Win2k
Terminal Servers against a Samba PDC. It works fine if the machine only
has few users on it (ie when testing at 6pm after almost everyone is
gone - I find it difficult to break).
I'm guessing there is some sort of race condition or resource locking
going on that prevents it happening properly.
As I didn't

Mapping/mount smb file systems without using password
I have been working on getting a Linux workstation to authenticate
against a W2K ADS. I have this working successfully using
WinBind/PAM/Samba.
I would now like to go one step further and mount/map the Windows
network drives for the logged in client.
I have looked at the man page for smbclient, is it possible to pass
through the winbind password that was used for gdm authentication
through to

Linux as an AD Client questions
Hello --
I'm trying to come up with a seamless way for our Red Hat 8 ( and
eventually, Mac OS X ) users to access network resources that are shared
via our Active Directory. I'm having a very rough time figuring out
exactly how to approach this.
Our requirements (ie, pie in the sky wish list) are:
1. when logging on to Gnome/KDE via gdm, users must be able to use their

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as
pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of
restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is
this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share,
put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without
going through any

AD authentication problem
I'm having a problem authenticating to Active Directory. I can join
the machine to the domain, wbinfo -g/-u will list the groups and users
and I can map a drive using: smbclient -k //s-lorentz.s-res.uva.nl/c\$
However when I try to get the linux machine to authenticate a user
it doesn't work giving the error NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS
(0xc000005e). Looking further in the logs it fails

ADS, winbind and clients UIDs
Hi people!
We are deploying a new scenario for out University, mostly based in
Samba. The purpose is the use of a single password for every service.
But we have found a little problem.
The ADS are a cluster of 3 Win2003 servers. The file servers are
RHAS3.0, and all the clients are dual boot pc Win/Linux, and use winbind
for authentication.
The idea is to export the file to the Linux clients

Has anyone gotten, and/or can point me to some documentation that talks
about, getting winbind running on FreeBSD? Preferably without linux-compat
