Need Samba Setup Help
Everyone, I am hoping that someone can help me. I have been trying for several weeks to get Samba working to no avail. I have consulted many online help files including the ones located at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.html, browsing.txt that comes with samba, http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/Samba24Hc13.pdf, and a few others. I have even posted a previous message, which

nmbd help please
I've been working on this for about a week now and can't seem to figure out the magic configuration that will make my Samba server work. I've gone through all the tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt. I'm running Sambe 2.2.6 on Redhat 8 and trying to get it to work on a home network with two Win XP machines. smbclient works both to the local Samba server and to any of the XP boxes.

net rpc info failure accessing XP: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I'm trying to remotely shut down a Windows XP machine on my local network using "net rpc shutdown". I'm coming across errors, so I decided to back down to the simpler "net rpc info", thinking that there will be fewer security settings related to seeing things than actually shutting down the system. Here's the info for the two boxes in question:

Samba won't share: ?nmblookup problem
Hi, I hope you can help! I am having problems getting samba to share across a large private network. The problem looks a bit like the problem is in resolving the name to an IP but I can't work out why. The network is a private (10.) network, and the PC's connecting to it are named and identified through Wins. All the PC's are running Novell clients to connect although a large

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network. It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7. On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name) if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do "NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8) So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5. When I

Active Directory authentication no longer works
Hello all, I have 3 Linux boxes all authenticating against 2 Windows 2003 domain controllers. Each Linux box is running a different Linux and samba version: Box1: CentOS 3.4 3.0.25-7 Box2: CentOS 4.4 3.0.10-1 Box3: CentOS 5 3.0.23c-2 Their smb.conf and krb5.conf files are all identical (below). A few days ago authentication stopped working and my /var/log/messages fills up with

Folder/directory permissions
Greetings. I am new to this list so please forgive what maybe an easy question. I am trying to use Samba 2.2.5 on a Solaris 7 server for a bunch of Win9x and Win2K clients. What I am currently having troubles with is viewing/changing permissions on the W2K boxes. While everything seems to be working OK for files (the check boxes show up and function correctly), this is NOT the case for

newbie help, please?
Hi, I'm trying to get a Samba (version 3.0.8pre1-0.pre1.3) to play with some WinXP boxes. I'm using WORKGROUPS, not DOMAIN. The server is running under Fedora Core 3. And I'm following the troubleshooting chapter in the O'Reilly book, Chapter 9. I cannot browse the shares from my WinXP machine. I CAN browse and access shares okay as a client on the Samba server machine. I

Newbie, Win2K config, fails on test 8 (long)
Hi. I'm not a sysadmin, but I'm the only person in this building who knows anything about linux boxes. I'm trying to install samba to connect the box (rh7.3) to the windows network. test 8 is where I run into problems. My username and passwd are the same for both. My firewall is down. I have appended my .conf file. I've been searching around through the archives and

intermittent failure of ability to connect to samba share from win (NT/2k) client
First, my installation is samba 2.2.8 running as a daemon (not inetd) on Solaris 8 configured to use a WINS server and provide authentication via a PDC (same host as WINS server). I do have an lmhosts file in the samba /lib directory with the PDC/WINS server address in it. My globals section; [global] workgroup = WORKGROUP netbios name = SAMBASERVER security =

Re: Intermittent "internal error: signal 11" with 3.0.24
Hi all Follow up to this post, as it didn't seem to go through the first time. We have a common problem occurring with our Samba setups. We run 3 (identical) processing environments that each contain a Samba host sharing approx .5TB of data to 6 Wintel machines. Normally these hosts operate fine, though we intermittently experience a Samba panic (intermittent = every 2-3 days) as per below.

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello, I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley" "arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc, etc, etc, on a single line. Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long) description of what I did. I

Urgent XP/Samba Problem.
Hi all, Until last night my XP Pro clients and my Samba PDC (2.2.3a) on RH7.3 existed quiet happily together once I'd changed the requiresignandseal to off and made the other changes. Last night I made a change to the config which failed so I rolled back to my previous working config file. Now my XP laptops can not connect to the domain - they report can not find domain controller or can not

Cannot make Windows join Samba domain
Hi, I'm having an issue trying to make a Windows machine sambaserveroin a Samba domain. Samba is running with LDAP backend (OpenLDAP). When I try to join the domain, Windows says that the machine account does not exist. The machine account, however, is successfully created in the LDAP directory after the join fails. When I try to join again, Windows says that the account already exists.
