Sync Linux <-> NT Domain passwords
Is there a way to syncronise the Windows Domain passwords
with the linux account passwords?
SAMBA passes authentication to an NT box
password server = *
Users have local accounts on the Linux box and get access to SAMBA shares
depending on which group (linux) they belong to and if their authentication
credentials were correct.
I've tried synchronising their passwords so when they change

want to access a Windows Share from a Red Hat 8 linux box
Try something like
mount -t smbfs -o username=user,password=password,workgroup=domain
//windows_server/folder
/local_folder
you may also want to add ,ip=<Windows_server_IP> if it can't resolve the
name
Thanks

Current master browser = UKNOWN
samba 2.2.5
We use an NT PDC for password authentication
and an NT WINS server.
Both of those systems are on a different subnet.
I have setup remote announce = <PDC subnet broadcast< and
remote browse sync = <WINS server IP>
Do I have to setup the SAMBA server as a master browser?
I don't want to mess things up with the WINS servers.
Thanks

Using the right network interface
Hi everyone,
samba 2.2.5
The server I'm using has 2 interfaces so using the
interface parameter I'm telling samba to use eth0 but
for some reason when I do netstat it is listening on eth1
interface = eth0 (the IP is 192.168.6.10)
netstat -an

Winbind help
Hi. I'm not subscribed to the list, so if you can help, please e-mail me
or CC me in the response.
I've been using Samba for quite a while, and just set up a 2.2.2 server
with winbind support. Console logins and SMB access work fine, wbinfo -t
reports "Secret is good", and wbinfo -r domain+ntuser shows the right
group number. In fact, the UID/GIDs are translated properly when

Samba getting user info from NT PDC
Hi!
My boss asked me to be able to share some directories on a FreeBSD Samba server
with users already created (and used) on a NT 4.0 PDC server.
So I followed http://www.sugoi.org/bits/index.php?bit_id=10
I just replaced the Windows 2k part by adding the NetBIOS name of the machine to
the NT PDC.
When I did the smbpasswd trick it worked like charm:
testsmb# smbpasswd -j CH-DOMAIN -r PDC

net command
Hi,
You can use the command net rpc shutdown -S <machine name> to remotly shutdown a PC. Is it possible to, or could it possibly be a future upgrade to have a comma separated list of machines so that you can shutdown several machines at one time. Ie at the end of the day to shutdown PC's in a particular classroom?
What are your thoughts??
Cheers

Samba share is not writeable
I am having difficulty with Windows shares mounted with smb on my linux
machine. The mount directory will not have write permissions for anyone,
no matter what. The mount directory that I use is /home/samba. It has
0700, or drwx------ permissions when it is not connected to Samba. It is
owned by the user jhall, and the group root. When I mount it, if I use
dmask 0777, I get dr-xr-xr-x. If I use

python-rpy DEB broken - but hopefully easy to fix
Hi CRAN people,
There is an issue with python-rpy on Ubuntu, when installed from the
CRAN repository. (I read the info on
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ and saw the note that this
package is experimental but you are happy to receive feedback on it.)
After adding the appropriate CRAN repo:
% sudo apt-get install python-rpy
[ ... installs various dependencies ... ]
% echo import rpy |

forms, javascript and ajax - hopefully an easy question
Right now I have a simple form hooked up. Now that the form is smooth
and functional, I want to add a feature that I''m not sure how to
implement.
After a user modifies a form, I''d like to have a visual cue appear
somewhere to show that the form has been changed and needs to be
saved.
It could be a red div at the top of the screen - anything - it is
doesn''t matter.

History
Hi,
I all of a sudden require to log who has been login onto our domain, and
from which machine.
Looking through the logs I do have, I don't seem to have this
information for more than a day, even in the log.<machinename>.old file.
How can I change this ASAP?

Logging in via Linux machine to Windows Domain
Hi List -
I have a friend that runs a Windows domain with Active Directory and is
setting up some new laptops with Redhat. He wants to automate installs,
etc. on these laptops as he would on a Windows machine.
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this - and also if anyone
knows of a good tutorial for joining a Linux machine to a Windows domain.
I've heard that it is possible.

[Hopefully] Simple Question About Sortables
I recently discovered prototype and script.aculo.us and I am totally
addicted. The rosy glasses are getting thin though, based on a problem that
I''m having with a sortable object I''m using.
I see that there is the hoverclass property for draggables, is there
something analogous for droppables? Specifically droppables in a sortable?
I''ve been through the docs on

Hopefully feature-complete kinit pushed out
I just pushed out a version of kinit into the klibc.git repository which
should have the last bit of mandatory (to replace the in-kernel stuff)
functionality -- do_mounts_md support. It's quite likely it's full of
bugs, but if you're brave, you may want to try it out.
It hasn't been migrated to the klibc-renamed and the kernel tree yet;
that's next on the list...

0.3.7 packages for openSUSE - hopefully working out-of-the-box with AIGLX now
Hi all,
I just uploaded new packages to openSUSE.org. If everything turns out
well this package is the first to work out-of-the-box on
- AIGLX: intel, radeon, ...
- NVIDIA native
- Xgl: intel, radeon(?), nvidia, fglrx, ...
Especially Xgl is the only possibility for ATI proprietary driver users.
Tested on Xgl, still works, AIGLX hasn't been verified yet, but the
source changed only for

A (hopefully...) quick rake db:migrate question...
Hey Folks,
RoR noob here with a quick question. I have added a field to a table
using:
ruby script/generate migration add_price_to_product price:decimal,
and did: rake db:migrate afterwards.
no change was reflected in the "Views" though. I''m pretty sure i''m
missing something here, can anyone give me a pointer?
Many Thanks...
John

[PATCH for review] (hopefully) improve error message upon incorrect pgraph irq
My main question is, do the error messages accurately reflect the situation.
Anything else wrong with this patch?
A (n)ack by darktama would be nice.
Maarten.
