Samba authentication
Hi,
Could someone confirm that the following is NOT possible with Samba:
-Run Samba on a Solaris box WITH NO SMBPASSWD
-Have the users log in on Windows NT, using the Novell NDS client, and
using ENCRYPTION
-Have the users authenticated by Samba through NDS (preferred) or NIS.
My understanding is that if Samba receives the password encrypted, it has
no choice but to use a local smbpasswd (and

Samba with a Win9x network and RoadRunner
Hi everyone...I'm at a dead stop setting up Samba, so let me jump right into
the problem:
First, the setup: I have a RH7.3 box and a W98 laptop. The RH box also has
a W2k Pro partition. We have them on a 4-port 10base-T hub along with our
RoadRunner cable modem.
Now on to the problem: As most of you are already aware, RR uses DHCP to
assign IP addresses to client machines at boot time.

simple problem, but not for me
Hello, I'm new in R and I want to do one thing that is very easy in excel, however, I cant do it in R.
Suppose we have the data frame:
data<- data.frame(A=c("a1","a2","a3","a4","a5"))
I need to obtain another column in the same data frame (lets say B=c(b1,b2,b3,b4,b5) in the following way:
b1=a1/(a1+a2+a3+a4+a5)

P.S. answer to my mail - miguel.gomes@netcabo.pt - cause I don't know if I'm already member of the mailing list.

Can't mount share on my linux boxes as a regular user.
I have no trouble mounting shares as root.
This problem occurs on both my linux boxes.
All the commands I show I have run as a regular user.
Here is all the data I have:

Choosing nlme or lme4?
Hi List,
I’ m analysing the selectivity of
resting site use by forest carnivores through mixed modelling techniques and I
wonder which will be the best r package to deal with several aspects simultaneously:
- binomial
variable response;
- possible
spatial and/or temporal correlation;
I have tried nlme (lme function) and
lme4 (lmer function) packages, however I realize that the

[LLVMdev] Fwd: Bitcode abbreviations for something that's not a record
Ok, I'll submit a patch to turn that into a report_fatal_error saying you
can't start an abbrev with an array or blob.
Thanks,

Hi,
I'm trying to customize a window with 2 graphs.
I'm able to do the first one with something like this general example
par(mfrow=c(1,2),cex.axis=0.85,cex.lab=0.80,mai=c(1.3,1,0.5,0),las=3)
bplot<-barplot(bar.values,names.arg=cf.names,width=0.5,ylab="% Area held")
abline(h=0.3,lty=3,col="red")

Chroot'ed SSH
Hi,
Is anyone chrooting users that connect through SSH?
I looked for it on Google and I basically saw several methods:
- OpenSSH 5 supports ChrootDirectory (FC9 apparently has RPMs that
probably could be rebuilt under CentOS 5)
- There seem to be several patches for OpenSSH 4.x to do the chroot,
the most popular seems to be http://chrootssh.sf.net/
- There appears to be a pam_chroot
- There are
