inconsistent browsing info for samba server
Hi there,
I have two Samba servers running within an NT domain. One Samba
(F-Samba) server runs samba-1.9.18.10 on top of FreeBSD-2.2.8 and the
other (L-Samba) runs samba-1.9.18p2-C6 on a RedHat Linux variant. All of
our NT machines run NT4,SP4. One is workstation and the rest run server.
The PDC is an NT Server (NT1).
F-Samba and L-Samba only show up in the browsers of about half of

login to samba3 PDC and problem with novell netware client
Hi,
I have actual installation Debian Sarge (testing) with Samba 3.0.2a.
There is Windows XP SP1 on workstations.
I use Novell client 4.83 SP2 or 4.9 SP1 for Novell Netware connections.
I try to run Samba as PDC. Everything is fine without Novell client.
After Novell Client installation, I could not logon to samba domain.
Client gives me message "Domain controller could not be found for

Non TCP/IP traffic
Hi all,
I need to setup a VPN where home users can comunicate with a Novell network
which functions with IPX/SPX. Is there someway i can route this traffic over
Tinc? I know tinc has a "switch" and "hub" mode, but does it also route non IP
traffic? This would be the setup:
[NovellServer] <-_EtherNet_-> [Firewall] <-_Tinc_-> [Homeuser]
Can i make tinc route this

Sometime cannot connect to samba server, Why
Hi,
I believe it's mentioned in one of the docs with the samba distro,
that this problem can happen, when you have File and print services
enabled on the PC's using a protocol _other_ than tcp/ip like NETBUI or
IPX. Samba use's TCP/IP only.

A strong case for IPX support in Samba and smbfs
I would benefit from IPX support in both Samba and smbfs.
I subscribe to Road Runner, a cablemodem service run by Time Warner
Cable. The cablemodem hooks up to an ethernet hub. The ethernet hub is
hooked to three computers. One of those computers runs Windows 98. The
other two can dual boot between Windows 98 and Linux. TCP/IP works
perfectly on all the computers, in both Win98 and Linux

IPX Issues
I followed the entire Starcraft/WinE HOWTO located at
http://koti.mbnet.fi/~hoppq/sc-howto.html
Starcraft now works just fine, except the Local Area (IPX) part doesn't
work.
My interface (eth0) is configured as follows:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:04:82:F7:A7
inet addr:192.168.1.2 Bcast:192.168.1.255
Mask:255.255.255.0

Network Neighbourhood shows dual workgroups.
We have a network here with Samba running as a WINS server and
is the domain master browser. The network also consists of a
couple of Novell 3.11 servers. Our Windows 95 stations have
IPX and TCP/IP configured, NETBIOS is NOT enabled for IPX.
The Windows 95 stations have the WINS server IP address typed
in manually as is the IP address for the machine. The DNS is
properly configured to resolve

Browsing problems in IP masqueraded subnet
Hi everyone!
I have a subnet in a dormitory using IP masquerading, and it is
working fine. My only problem is that I can't browse the outer network
in a Microsoft machine inside. Here is the physical topology:

Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC
issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates
users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access
the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup"
smbpasswd's.
I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Newbie (groan... !) Client Problem
I've studied the books, searched the list archives, etc. I suspect there is
someone who can just tell me one thing to tweek, so I humbly beg your
advice.
Situation:
I am playing with/learning Linux, intending to replace our two company
Netware servers sometime in the next 6 months. At home, I have an NT4.0/SPC
PDC, an NT4.0/SP6 docked laptop, and an HP server with RH7.1 or 7.2 (2.4.??

Can't even connect to my server via ping/http/telnet
Quite a strange error, and I am very interested to see if anyone can
figure this one out:
While trying to access my Samba 2.0.5/RedHat 6.0 server via PPP from Win98
on my laptop, I can't ping, http, or telnet there. No error messages,
just timeouts. All this works from my LAN, but not when I dial-up
somewhere (tried w/ mulitple ISPs). I know it's not a DNS issue, because
it works when

Remote browse sync, wins, problems...
Hi,
I have a network with three different sites, each with their own
workgroup, each on their own subnet, connected by a VPN.
Each site has a master samba server, acting as a domain master and wins
server. Each site has a mixture of Windows (mostly 2000 professional)
and linux workstations on each workgroup.
I am trying to get all workgroups and all machines viewable in 'network

Network Path could not be found on HP with XP
We have one brand new HP EPC-43 which can see all the Windows boxes, but
not the Samba shares on the Unix server. We have many other Windows
machines of all vintages including 95, 98, 98se, NT, 2000, ME and XP which
can see each other and the Samba server. The HP runs XP, but we have other
XP boxes which have no difficulty with Samba.
We have a simple network with no domain controller, just

Strange behaviour on Win98
I am currently trying to integrate a Samba v2.2.5 server into an NT domain.
I have already succeeded to join the server into the domain and have
authentication working (security = DOMAIN), but when I'm trying to
access it from a Win98 client, it sometimes says "network name not
found", although the server is visible in the "network neighbourhood".
Then, after waiting a

password stuff
Greetings All:
I hope everyone had a fun Halloween weekend (I carved 4 big
pumpkins and gave out a bucket full of rubber eyeballs and stuff).
I'm hoping somebody can explain the password behavior I've been
seeing (and a couple of other things). Here's my setup:
An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with
one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30,

Excel & samba-3.0.11 slowness/hanging/lockup issues... Anyone?
Here's the problem we're encountering:

Having intermittent problems regarding users
opening/accessing/saving/writing MS Excel files into samba shares.
When a user accesses a file on a shared volume via samba, they can open an
Excel file and end up with one of two conditions; either their system hangs

Sometime cannot connect to samba server, Why ?

there are about 20 Win95 clients which is in the same network.
The porblem I usually encountered is when I click on the samba server
icon in the NN icon, sometime I can get thru without any problem.
However, there are also many times that I got error message

host machine doesn't show up in browse list
What is the minimum smb.conf configuration options required to make the host show up in the windows 2000 network neighbourhood browse list?
Currently I've only set `workgroup', `netbios name', `server string'. What else needs to be there?
My apologies if this has been asked before, I did scan the mailing lists before I posted but most of the postings referred to multiple subnet

Function reference
Hi.
I'm looking for an R equivalent to something like function pointers in C/C++. I have a search procedure that evaluates the fitness of each point it reaches as it moves along, and decides where to move next based on its fitness evaluation. I want to be able to pass different fitness functions to this procedure. I am trying to find a good way to do this. I was thinking of passing in

Help: Cannot browse the shares on Samba server
Hello all,
I really hate to just blast out a message right after subscribing to the
list, but we're having equipment troubles and getting this new Linux server
running just became priority -20. :(
Base install is Red Hat Linux 5.1, with all the latest errata patches
applied. Platform (for now) is a 90 MHz Pentium, 16MB of RAM, 3Com 3C509
Ethernet card. LAN is 10BaseT, running TCP/IP
