Any LARGE production Sambas?
Hi list, A customer was asking - is anyone doing LARGE Samba servers in production - in the range of 10-20TB or more? If so, what type of issues come up as the data sizes grow large? What architectures work well? Is there a recommended maximum TB/server? Thanks. -Mike MacIsaac, IBM mikemac at us.ibm.com (845) 433-7061

Accepting Time Server
If samba and xntpd are running, you're done! Samba is a time server. Setting the smb.conf parameter "time server = yes" will cause Samba to advertise itself as a time server in the browse list through nmbd. Regardless of this setting, clients can still set their time with the "net time" command. -Mike MacIsaac, IBM mikemac at us.ibm.com (845) 433-7061

wbinfo; --getdcname vs --DSgetdcname
I'm wondering what the difference is between the two wbinfo functions, "getdcname" and "DSgetdcname". The help is not very helpful here: --dsgetdcname /|domain|/ Find a DC for a domain. --getdcname /|domain|/ Get the DC name for the specified domain. I have a Samba4 PDC that is returning different results for these depending upon whether it's run on the

Hi Mike-M, Thanks for the help. It seems I'll have to just download the precompiled binaries since I only have 1 Gig in the entire system I'm using. --Sam ----- Original Message ---- > From: mike-m <mikem.llvm at gmail.com> > To: Samuel Crow <samuraileumas at yahoo.com> > Sent: Wed, May 5, 2010 3:36:34 PM > Subject: Re: [LLVMdev] Another bad binutils? >

Username map and UNIX UID assignments - my findings
Background: I'm trying to make sure my Unix and NT users are being assigned the correct UID from both platforms so they own files correctly from both sides. I was hoping to avoid username maps since our users with cross platform access already have matching usernames on both sides (or will when we reconfigure). I've been playing with several parameters, and fixed some things, but I did

Winbind authentication
Hi everyone, First of all, could you please CC me, I am not (yet) subscribed to this list. Now my problem: I created a test setup at my office that uses winbind to authenticate linux users to a Windows NT server (they log in with DOMAIN+username), as described in the winbindd manpage. I followed their setup completely. (at my work I am using RedHat 7.1 and the winbindd daemon found in the

FC5 smbpasswd not working
Hello, we run samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD. We recently upgraded our linux clients from FC2 to FC5. Now smbpasswd (on the client) does not work. Samba/Winbind on Solaris 9
hi all, I am having some problems with getting winbind to work correctly with Solaris 9. When I change nsswitch.conf to say passwd: files winbind group: files winbind I can make the server work serving out smb shares to W2k domain users, but then I can't logon using local accounts. (ie, I cannot logon to the console as root, or ssh as a local user). Anyone have this problem? -Brent

Full wNT/w2K ACL conformance
We are planning to replace a quite big domain running W2K with Samba ( at the very least, the DC ). Though i'd love to have the extra security capabilities of W2K ( Kerberos ) as a DC, Samba/NT4 as PDC/BDC with ldapsam will more than suffice for now. The show-stopper right now is this: we need to be able to assign "real" Full Control permissions: a user who has "Full

New samba connection will not work
I'm fairly new to samba but I've spent too long on this - can anyone help? This system was previously working on another domain. Now I have tried to register it on the production domain (it has been removed from the test domain and I've deleted the secrets file and then added it to the live (OASIS) domain and I get C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32>net use * \\confasr1\midas System error 53 has

adapt package missing because of licensing issue: fix?
I think this is probably known by someone, but I wanted to ask/comment: The 'adapt' package has been removed from CRAN because of an 'unclear' license. That makes sense, but it actually took a bit of digging for me to discover that, and if I had been a student I might not have figured it out. The package is simply missing from the CRAN compiled packages page; I did find
