Printer settings problem 2.2.6pre2
I am trying to apply some settings to a printer shared by Samba, including
installing the drivers. I notice that I must be in printer admin or be
root in order to do this, and I am. The logs say that I'm
"logged in as admin user (root privileges)" which I assume is correct.
I go into properties, click no when it asks me if I want to install
drivers, and then go to New Driver and

How to backup/restore printer settings?
Hello All,
We have a problem with our samba-based print server (a redhat EL
machine, running samba 3.2.8) occasionally getting corrupt
ntprinters.tdb files. To combat it, I've been keeping nightly backups
of the file, and restoring the latest whenever it crashes. This
_almost_ works. When I restore the file, some of the printer settings -
such as which driver it is using - seem to restore

New HP Printer Drivers wont upload (samba 3.0.11)
Maybe there's a trivial solution to this, but it's confused the hell out
of me.
I'm trying to upload the latest Windows XP PCL6 driver for our Laserjet
4250TN to my Samba 3.0.11 server. It works, and uploads the driver
files, but then at the end it produces an error on the XP client "the
operation could not be completed". The logs on the samba server state:

Replicating printers, drivers, and settings between machines
For backup and redundancy purposes, I've been needing to replicate CUPS
printer queues between two Samba servers, and came up with the following
shell script.
We use a fairly sizable number of CUPS printer queues printing in RAW
mode, and install the printer drivers from the Windows clients, so all
clients actually download the printer driver from Samba at first use.

Adding printer drivers from WinXP
Well I'm trying to setup the Samba server to act as a print server too.
I had uploaded the drivers for the 4 printers we have and I installed
all 4 printers on my test computer and it worked well. But when I got
back from my vacations one of the tech told me that he couldn't install
the printer drivers from the server and when I check the driver didn't
seem to be in the driver list

option --delete still not completely working (2.5.2)
This problem has persisted for as long as I've used rsync. When
the --delete option is used, not all files are deleted from the
target, even though said files are not present in the source.
The particular cases that cause this are when the target has a
directory with files, and the source is something else, at least
a symlink (this is the case I have seen). I'm taking a guess to
say that

Samba 3.2.7 server loses printer - driver assignment
Hi,
Our Samba/CUPS based printserver loses the info of which driver belongs to a
certain printer. The server is running Samba 3.2.7 on Solaris 9.
Out of the blue, users complain they cannot print. Looking at 'printers and
faxes' from a Windows machine shows no info in the 'Model' field. In normal
situations this field lists the driver/model name.
Weird thing is: nobody is

How to delte a printer
Hello,
how can I delete a printer and it's driver completely out of samba?
1. Removing the entry out of smb.conf and reload samba.
2. Remove the driver over the windows serversettings dialog.
But then there is a "printing/printer-name.tdb" left in the lock directory.
Can I just delete this file? And how can I remove the corresponding entries
out of ntprinters.tdb.
And is there

Printer settings don't stick
Experienced programmer, Samba noob, CUPS noob; trying to use Ubuntu
6.06 Server as a print server for Windows XP clients on a home LAN.
Worked through the Howto and got point-and-print to work for my Canon
iP1200 (raw CUPS queue, and I used the Windows XP Add Printer Wizard
to upload the driver to the print$ share).
However, I can't persuade the printer driver to change the ink

Corrupted ntprinters.tdb
Hi,
we are experiencing periodic problems with our samba/cups setup:
It seems like workstations which are locked but where users with the
SePrintOperatorPrivilege are logged on destroy the ntprinters.tdb.
This always takes place when the logrotate on the sambaserver runs the
postrotatescript and restarts cups while the client is doing whatever it
has to do.

I have configured Samba 3.0.14a as PDC and Printer Server on a LAN.
Everything goes well:
- Users can do logon to the Samba NT Domain
- Users can print on the network "raw" printer
I tried to load the driver via Add Remove Printer Wizard on the network
printer, I can copy and install the driver, but when I tried to save the
configuration pushing the botton Apply or OK I recived

Administering samba locally without opening root to the net?
Hello.
I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone
samba machines (3.x style) locally.
Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one
connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires
auth.
Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb
file directly as long as user running this command has the
necessary permissions.

friendly printer name
Hi,
I have sucessfully installed an ad-integrated samba server. We mainly
use the server for printer sharing and are very happy with it. We only
have one problem or missing feature:
On a Windows Server, you change the name of a printer, so that it is
different to the share name. We use 8-letter sharenames for being
compatible to old Win9x-Clients, bbut we would like to have logner, more

Howto delete printer driver for only one architecture?
Hello everybody,
we have a lot of printers shared by samba, which are still offering the old
"version 2" W32X86 style print drivers, though most of our clients have
been upgraded to w2k and above meanwhile. Therefore I would like to delete
these old drivers, but I don't know how to achieve this without deleting
the drivers for all architectures (with rpcclient -c

How to repair corrupt ntprinters.tdb?
Hi,
we are using samba 3.0.24 as a printspooler for 80 network printers with
a 500kB ntprinters.tdb for some years now. When we recently restarted
samba we noticed that the ntprinters.tdb automatically shrinked to 24kB
and printing was no longer possible.
tdbdump of the original tdb-file is impossible too:
"Failed to open ntprinters.tdb"
The strange thing about this: we can solve
