LDAP with SAMBA not as PDC
Hi,
I have an existing SAMBA setup on a file server, for the purpose of managing
file shares, and that alone. I now wish to move my authorisation over to
LDAP. I have had little effort in finding any solution that doesn't involve
setting samba up as a PDC. All i require is SAMBA to authenticate users
against LDAP. Any help is greatly appreciated :).
Many Thanks

Hi there,
I''m currently developing a plugin to do authentication and
authorisation. In the init.rb file of the plugin I have this code:-

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as
pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of
restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is
this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share,
put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without

write access to shares on PDC faulty (samba 2.2.6)
Hi,
I just configured samba (2.2.6) on a Linux box (2.4.18) to act as a PDC.
I can bring W2K PCs into the domain, and I can read the data on exported
shares.
However, when I try to write data, the following occurs:
1. trying to create directories (AKA folders :-) from the W2K GUI using
"New Folder":

Export authentication & authorisation logs to Windows Event Viewer
Hi,
Can we export the samba audit logs (Authentication & Authorisation Logs)
to Windows Event Viewer?
I am trying to export the authentication & authorisation logs to a
Windows Server to be shown in Windows Event Viewer. I read the link -
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Event_Logging. But couldn't follow much.
Can someone throw more light on the procedure, if it is possible?

Printing:access denied.
Hello All.
I'm using Windows 2000 prof on a NT domain with samba as the PDC. The printer is connected to the samba server via a usb port.
I've tried all that seemed obvious to me, and still the same message.
Ive made the printer share directory belong to root and group owner every, which has everybody who should print belonging to that group and chmod 770. I've made the printer$

Access control question
In a samba share with domain authentication on an ext2 filesystem, is there
any sensible way to allow creation of folders, files and so on inside it
other than making the share directory world-writeable on the Unix system?
If not, are there other options for achieving this? I know I've heard about
a Linux filesystem which has NT-style ACLs, but I've also heard that it's

slightly OT: LDAP Server
Hello List,
we are currently looking for a Ubuntu server setup (ideally v. 6.06)
with authentication and authorisation based on OpenLDAP for all
services. The needed services are Samba (PDC), Apache (htaccess), Squid,
OpenXchange, NIS.
Does someone have such a setup and is willing to share?
We don?t want to reinvent the wheel since time is money :)
I am looking forward for your reply. :o)

Windows 2000/2003 shares -> danish character problem.
Hello all.
I have been given an assignment to mount a share automatically for each
user using a given Linux machine (Mandrake 10 in this case). This is
working fine, thanks to pam_mount, BUT:
The mounted share contains national characters like this: ? ? ?.
The problem I'm having is that when I mount these on Linux the '?' looks
like 'o' but cannot be accessed like that. It

"Account Unknown" problem (Samba3 domain users in WinNT permissions)
Hello,
I'm suffering a estrange problem in a WinNT-Samba3 environment. I have two
servers: WinNT4 (PDC of domain A-DOMAIN) and Samba3 (PDC of B-DOMAIN).
A-DOMAIN and B-DOMAIN trust each other (I had followed the procedures
described in HOWTO Chapter 16 successfully).
The problem arises when I assign permission in WinNT server's folders
(A-DOMAIN) for users in the Samba domain (B-DOMAIN).

Windows XP slow access to network places shortcut?
All,
In winxp & 2k for that matter, you have the ability of saving shortcuts to network places in the my network places. When some of my users try to access these shortcuts(to a samba share) in winxp, it takes a horrendous amount of time for the folders to populate the screen. Especially when viewing in windows explorer with the folders view button depressed. Under tools>folder

Windows C# unable to access Samba directories.
We have written a program which queries Windows mounted drives (including
Samba mounts) for files and directories.
The program cannot find folders which are not owned by the user who spawned
the application. The user belongs to the group (owner - group - others)
with rw permissions and can locate all files and folders via Windows
Explorer.
It appears that Samba is unable to resolve the

HTTP authentication/authorisation for Apache & AD.
I am looking into the best way to integrate active directory user
authentication and authorisation in to Apache.
So far I have a working LDAP solution that requires the
username/password to be entered and a Kerberos setup that is transparent
to the user but with no authorisation.
Searching the net seems to only find commercial offerings which offer
true password less integration between AD &
