CentOS won't shutdown ... or do anything else
I started to have problems similar to ones described in the past on
this list but could not find any kind of resolution. I did an
lsmod, a mount command, and for fun, did an strace on shutdown to
see where it is hanging, and an ltrace as well.
Any thoughts?

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi!
I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help!
I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can
be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a),
and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3
from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more
than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

ZFS Prefetch Tuning
Hi All,
Is there a way to tune the zfs prefetch on a per pool basis? I have a
customer that is seeing slow performance on a pool the contains multiple
tablespaces from an Oracle database, looking at the LUNs associated to
that pool they are constantly at 80% - 100% busy. Looking at the output
from arcstat for the miss % on data, prefetch and metadata we are
getting around 5 - 10 % on data,

Can't fetch domain SID
Hi,
I happened to delete /etc/samba/secrets.tdb. Now I can not get DOMAIN
SID by run:
net getlocalsid
Any idea how to recover it? Do I need to reinstall the whole Samba suite?

Way to salvage profiles after domain rejoin?
Somehow my workstations lost their connection to
the domain recently. I can rejoin them, but when
I leave the domain and rejoin the previous user
profiles are lost. Well, the data is still on
the system, but all pre-rejoin domain profiles are
listed as "account unknown" in the profile manager.
I know I can probably use the Files and Settings
Transfer Wizard on the XP machines as long

[LLVMdev] Debugging information problem: code being reordered / debug point jumping around
I'm seeing some undesirable behavior where, when generating debugging information, sometimes the point in the debugger will jump forwards and backwards during single stepping, even though the output from our frontend (this is the ispc compiler), is emitting LLVM instructions with a strictly forward-moving/increasing set of source locations. I'm wondering if we're doing something wrong

Hi,
I swear I have read almost all the posted messages about this issue, but

rogue process, solaris, high load, 3.5.3, printing
Hi,
this is an old problem it was worse in the pre-3.5.0 releases, on solaris

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi,
I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I
changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not
sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any
performance. Using truss I see loads of:
19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE640) = 0
19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0

Rogue process
An old problem has started to reappear with our Solaris (2.8) Samba (3.0.23b).
This was after an upgrade from 3.0.22 in which the problem was worse.
Occasionally an smbd process will go "rogue" and start consuming CPU cycles
until killed. I did a truss of the process and got back this tight loop.
fcntl(27, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBEEF98) = 0

The specified network name is no longer available 3.0.25 RHEL4
I have a reproducible intermittent error large site - "The specified network name is no longer available".
This happens when copying large files. Below is part of log level 10 output & strace. Sorry for the long posting. I will probably need to put the loglevel 10 attached to a bugzilla - but thought I would try the lists initially.

Samba 4.3.11 accessing disk every minute
The latest version that Western Digital has shipped with the My cloud devices accesses the disk
about twice a minute. The access to /dev/sda2 is causing the system to keep the disk from going
into standby mode. I don't understand the call to quotactl every minute when no one is trying to access the share.
An strace of one of the processes shows the following:
