rights to change ACL's
Hi all,
Installation: RH7.2, 2.4.18 kernel, XFS patch, samba-2.2.4 in windows
2000 domain environment. Authentification is done through winbind daemon. I
want only particular users (say, group "Domain Admins") have the ability to
change permissions (ACL's), not the owners of file/directory. Is it possible
to implement this?

smbfs: failed dir listing
Has anyone else seen these?

I get them when trying to read a particular directory from a NT4 SP4 (?)
server.

The directory in question has 718 files, all with rather long names. This
is on a Linux 2.2.12 patched with my smbfs-nls-filename patch. I'd like to

smb_proc_readdir_long error
Hi guys/girls,
How are you ?
I'm running "Linux 2.4.22 SMP" with Samba-3.0.4 and pick up the following message in my syslog when accessing a mounted NT4 share:
kernel: smb_proc_readdir_long: name=\OLAP Services\Data\GreatPlains\*, result=-13, rcls=1, err=5
Any ideas what this is ?
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Kindest regards

smb_proc_readdir_long - ls not showing files
Hello,
We are getting a baffling problem with a samba mounted drive on Redhat, mounted
from a windows box. We cannot always see files in the mounted directory with ls
or perl. The directory has 237 files in it. We sometimes see 197 files with
ls. Sometimes we see nothing. This can happen from one try to the next (i.e.
run ls, see the files, immediately run ls again and see nothing). We have

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux
6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT
machine and at home with a Win9x machine.
In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm
not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze
machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

On additional note, I was able to use filler directories to circumvent the
problem. This works for me since it is archives, but wouldn't for most.
Here is an example:
No filler files:
ls -l - Returns no files
Filler file at top of the directory structure (00_SAMBA)
ls -l - Returns directories 0-D and N-Z
Filler files the top of directory structure and where D's stoped (00_SAMBA

smbfs
Hi-
I'm working on a graphical interface to smbclient/smbmount/smbumount.
As part of its operation, it will mount shares in directories under a
user's home directory.
I've run into a bit of a problem regarding the distributions of the
mount utilities, specifically on Redhat 5.1/5.2. They are shipping an
RPM with smbfs 2.0.1, which is known to have a security hole... so it

Interesting errors...
Greetings,
About 2 months ago, we decided to backup our Oracle test servers via
samba rather than nfs -- the backups were just taking too long using
nfs. No problem mounting the remote file share to the server and the
backup took about one-third of the time. Yep, worked good...and still
continues to out perform nfs hands down.
Problem is - I'm receiving errors on both of the test servers.

Samba character set BUG ???
Hi
In my NT server I have this exported directory:
Doc/CAMI?N/example.txt
If I mount this with Samba 2.2.2 (Linux RH7.1 with kernel 2.4.10):
Doc/CAMI
And I can't access the file "example.txt". If I try to copy the directory to
another place:
cp: cannot access `PRUEBA/CAMI': No such file or directory
And in /var/log/message:

smb_proc_readdir Problem
When I mount a smb share that is located on a Win2k machine I get the
following error when I try to browse the directory.
smb_proc_readdir_long: name=, result=-2, rcls=1, err=123
I assume this is talking about the long filenames that are in the
directory I am trying to browse. I have to type ls or ll multiple times
before I get a listing and then the listing isn't all there either.

Hi all,
I have a file that samba does not know how to access. The file is located on
a w2k server. The samba box is a member of the w2k domain (ADS). When I try

I get the following error:

smbfs: patch for directory listing
Hello everyone
I have recently reported problems reading a certain directory from an NT
server on this list (and speculated in causes). I have a few workarounds
and now I'm looking for some feedback on what the proper fix is and for
people to test if my patch works for them.
Please test smbfs with and without the patch on the directory in this
zipfile (all files are empty):

Nortel Meridian Opt 81C and PRI
We've been trying unsuccessfully to connect our Meridian Option 81C to a
TE110P via PRI. We've followed the directions in
asterisk-meridian-a1.pdf (link on
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+legacy+integration), but it
doesn't seem to work on our 81C (even though many, many users report it
works very well on Option 11's).
Has anyone had any success in getting the above
