Interesting logging issue with W2k and smb 2.2.2
We're running Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 (Sparc) machine. It's not
configured as a PDC or BDC, just sharing out home file spaces and
printing access.
I've searched the archives and can't find anything in the list archives
or the bug reports that *quite* matches my "problem". I can't tell if
this is an issue with Samba 2.2.2 which may be fixed in 2.2.5 or if this

[Fwd: Re: Fourier Analysis and Curve Fitting in R]
well if you want to find the spectral density aka what frequencies
explain most of the variance then I would suggest the spectral
density. This can be implemented with spec.pgram(). This is
conducted with the fast fourier transform algorithm.
a<-ts(data, frequency = 1) #make the time series with 365readings/365days
?spec.pgram
and you should be able to take it from here

vm ignores kickstart
Hi,
I''m trying to use a kickstart file to install VMs on a Scientific Linux
5.2 (repackaged RHEL52) host, but the install process seems to ignore my
kickstart file. The command I''m using is:
virt-install -n sl4vm01 --ram=1024 --vcpus=1 --os-type=linux
--os-variant=rhel4
--extra-args="ks=http://particle.phys.uvic.ca/~fransham/ks.cfg"

[LLVMdev] MachO and ELF Writers/MachineCodeEmitters are hard-codedinto LLVMTargetMachine
I like the idea of a generic MachineCodeWriter, although I prefer the
name 'ObjectFileWriter'...
I think we need to take a hard look at which bits of the
Writer/Emitter infrastructure are needed for what tasks (Object File
Emittion, JIT, etc.) and make sure that our abstractions are flexible
enough... As it stands at the moment, the Writer and Emitter classes
could definately be merged

Re: ssh between DomUs in Xen3.2
Hi Waldirio:
I tried telnet earlier from one DomU to another
[root@localhost ~]# telnet 192.168.17.201 22
Trying 192.168.17.201...
Connected to 192.168.17.201 (192.168.17.201).
Escape character is ''^]''.
and then it just hangs...
So it looks like I can connect to the port from DomU to DomU.
But from Dom0 to a DomU
[root@gxn-wn2 ~]# telnet 192.168.17.201 22
Trying

I am also interested in working on this area and interested in writting a
COFF file backend.

Fwd: Re: Encrypt /decrypta file with ssh keys.
As per Alex's suggestion, attached is the proof of concept "sfile"
script. If there is anyone out there with great C skills who can
recreate this functionality "out of the box", I think there would be a
few happy campers (at least two, anyways).

Phone choices....opinion request Polycom vs Cisco
Hi
I am struggling with hardware choices to get started with. My options are
narrowed down to SIP phones - Polycom IP500, IP600 and Cisco 7940G.
of importance is:
- functionality / integration with asterisk
- headset functionality and use
- voice quality
- build quality
Is there much of a difference between Polycom and Cisco? Scanning the group
it looks like there may be slightly more

ssh_rsa_verify: RSA_verify failed: error:
Host based authentication does not seem to be working for us after
upgrading to openssh-3.4p1 (we were at openssh-3.1p1) (openssl is at
0.96d). Any time we try to connect from another unix box also running
openssh-3.4p1, we get the following error (on the server side) and host
based auth fails (it falls back to password prompt).

Limit users storing BIG files
Hi All,
I am using Samaba for my network users and I run out of space soon as so
many users store BIG files on the share folders.
Is there a way to specify the max size for a file that can be stored using
Samaba?
Or At least max size for a folder will also help.

Samba Won't Start
Hello-
We're running Samba 1.9.14 on UnixWare 2.1.1, well, it was running.
Suddenly it won't start- not when the machine is
booted, not when I try to do it manually in
/etc/rc2.d, from /usr/local/samba/bin or from
the samba source directory. I tried starting
it with debugging but got no messages.
Has anybody seen this problem before?
Any ideas? It may be a system setup problem,

samba will not work for me... :/
I've had this problem since FreeBSD 4.3. This problem continues with my
FreeBSD 4.4 machine.
I can't connect from my Win98se and Win2kPro machines to my FreeBSD 4.4 Samba
server.
I've tried it all... but still no luck.
I've run smbd and nmbd manually with the "-D" parameter. I can connect
internally from my FreeBSD 4.4 box using "./smbclient

CC on Bug 16932?
Hi,
I'm being affected by Bug 16932
(https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=16932), and would
like to comment on it and/or be CC'ed on it.
Unfortunately I can't create a Bugzilla account... when I try, it tells
me "The e-mail address you entered (hiebert at uvic.ca) didn't pass our
syntax checking for a legal email address. New accounts are disabled.

changing ip
I require some advice.
I've had samba running nicely for a couple of months, however I needed
to change the ip addresses for my network. Since changing the ip
addresses, whenever I start WinXp and log on it takes about 3-4 mins to
log on. Also when I try to browse using windows explorer I sometimes
have to wait 3-4mins, then I get the same delay when logging off.
If I use dos though and change

Samba AD/DC, Single-Sign-On, domain users cannot change password
I have successfully joined my Linux/Ubuntu workstation to the Samaba AD/DC domain thanks to
help from Rowland Penny.
Now I face an interesting problem ... Domain users cannot change their password.
Domain users can successfully login to the Linux workstation using their domain credentials,
but when the user tries to change the password using "Passwords and Keys" from the desktop

Whats wrong in this smbclient picture
Running smbclient 2.2.0-alpha2
on Redhat Linux 7.0
I don't have a fully installed samba suite with full setup and really
only use smbclient occasionally like an ftp client. I'm able to
access a win2k and win98 box that way from my linux workstation.
Able to access but not transfer anything to the win98.
Although I can transfer files from/to the win2k box.
I have no passwords set on
