Access from one box but denied from the other
I have samba setup and serving properly to one of my Win2K boxes, I can access shares and create/delete/move files from one of my Win2K hosts but not the others. I went through a bazillion steps debugging to get the first Win2k box connecting so its hard to say what it is that the other boxes (or the samba server) isn't doing.
When trying to connect from one of the other Win2K boxes (through

PDC Problems...
Hi all,
I've looked through the archives and I can't seem to find a solution, so
here's my problem.
I have three Win2k clients and one Samba server which I set up as a PDC
(or at least I thought so.)
The domain is "THEMOLE" yet when I try to join the domain from the
clients it says;
"The following error occured validaing the name "THEMOLE"

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list,
I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for
this:
I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server.
I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts.
F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung".
I use following mount-string:
mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user

users/passwds
Could somebody please explain just how one is supposed to set up samba
users, groups and passwords so connections can be established to Win2k
clients to connect to FBSD samba server for file sharing and to use cups
for printing.
I am afraid that the manuals and config files and various examples I have
found on the Internet are quite confusing.
How is the Windows username/passord related to

"hiding" and "vetoing" files (for Samba 2.2.2 & Windows Explorer)
We're running Samba 2.2.2 on an RS/6000 (AIX 4.3.3) using Windows 95
clients. We've tried the "hide files" and "veto files" option in smb.conf,
but when the shares are mapped, we can still see the contents in Windows
Explorer. We used the wildcard for all the contents of the shares (ex.
hide files = /*.*/). The Samba manual only makes reference to Windows 98,

HELP!!! Problems with Hidden dot files
Hi all,
I am having a real bizarre problem with Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 8. I have
set up the smb.conf to share all user's home folders, and want to ensure
that all dot files are visible. The problem I am having is that the dot
files all appear except for one specific one (which happens to be the exact
file that is needed!). I can see it when I telnet, but not using Samba.
The dot file is a

XP Pro - Domain Login ... great trauma and sorrow
I really think this is a Windows problem, but since my very good friend Bill refuses to return my calls ...
The client is WinXP Professional
The server is RedHat 7.1 with SAMBA 2.2.2-8
I have rtfm several times both the ENCRYPTION and PDC-Howto, and I think I have implemented all of the requisite registry and passwd/smbpasswd/smb.conf settings.
The client will happily JOIN the domain, but my

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I recently upgraded from RedHat 6.2 to 7.3. I had samba running
fine so I could mount space on our windows network. Somehow this
got broken in the upgrade. My linux box is called k466a and my
username there is mcliff. On the windows network I am cliffm.
If I do

NT Administrator account changes permissions when logging onto samba server
Hello, all
I have a problem with my administrator accounts on WinNT with Samba.
When I log in locally as the Administrator, it works as expected - I *am*
the administrator for the machine.
When I log into the domain as Administrator, it works as expected - I log in
as root.
The prolem comes when I try to do anything on the local machine as
Administrator (logged into the Samba server). The

2.2.5/PDC Problem - Part 2
Problem 1 solved: Root logged in without a hitch
Problem 2 now exists
Now matter what I try, I cannot get a normal user account to log in. I've
added the accounts in smbpasswd and passwd and still cannot log into the
domain.
Is there a special group that I need to create in /etc and a similar mapping
in my username map? Could the files be locked to root and not be open to
other logins?

smbclient return status from shellscript?
Hi,
I hope this is the correct mailinglist for my question.
I've made a script that sends a file to a NT shared folder.
As long as I make a successfull connect, I get return status 0...
This is a problem, since now I can't make a correct errorhandling if
something goes wrong.
