Mailbox with .broken files
We're using Dovecot 2.2.4 and mdbox storage with compression.
I noticed yesterday that at least one of the accounts has unusual files in it's mail/storage directory. This account has approximately 17.5G of compressed mail, across about 750 storage files (m.###) using 8G of storage.
Starting on Dec 11, storage files m.409 through m.731 have not only their m.### file, but also a

with mbox format doveadm ignores subfolders of inbox
Hello.
After we switched the format from mbox to mdbox on our dovecot
(version 2.1.9) servers last week, some of our users were missing the
subfolders of their inboxes. So far we thought that with the mbox
format it is not possible to have mail folders containing both
messages and subfolders. Now we know that there is one exception from
this rule: the inbox. With mbox format dovecot

samba + mit krb5 + ldap hypothetical
Hi all,
I've read through much of the list archives and other various docs and
am now more confused than ever regarding how samba interacts with
external services. All of the docs seem to assume that a Windows AD
server is part of the picture when ldap/krb5 are involved.
What I'm trying to do is set up a samba fileserver that Windows clients
can connect to via something like:

Samba 2.2.5 and LDAP start_tls
Hi,
I've a problem in connecting samba 2.2.5 to LDAP with ldap ssl = start_tls.
I've already patched the file pdb_ldap.c and configure.in and run autconf (as
described in the Samba-LDAP-PDC howto).
However, doing a rpcclient servername -U root%password -c "enumprinters" shows
this in the log:

"no shared cypher", no matter what I try
Hello Aki,
maybe I misunderstood you, but both adding an "ssl = yes" line to this
section of dovecot.conf, and commenting out the whole "four lines
starting at "inet_listener imaps" do not have any effect :
service imap-login {
inet_listener imap {
port = 0
}
inet_listener imaps {
port = 993
ssl = yes
}
}

openldap integration failed after power cut
Hi
We have a Samba server that authenticates with an openldap server. Or it used to.
We had a power cut last week and after a bit of struggling everything came back, but not Samba.
Previously our smb.conf file included the line
passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://server.domain.net/
With this line in place the connection to the LDAP server fails, and peoples shares drop off every few minutes. I

auth issues on centos5 with ldap backend
Hi,
We've had some issues with auth. /var/log/secure is full of 1000s of
these lines:

authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=dovecot ruser=

Users can usually login OK with their ldap credentials, but
occasionally logins slow to a crawl if not outright fail, esp people

asking for root password
We are using rsync to pull backups created on our server.
The command below is run as a cronjob and it works great.
rsync -avu --rsh "ssh -l root" root@servername:/var/lib/mysql/backups/ /backups/mysql/
We have a new server that will replace the old server that rsync pulls backups from.
On the system that is running rsync, I switched the servername in the command above to the new

There is something to add. Listing existing rights (any rights that is,
thus using the current, root, user) fails with the same problem:

The username or password was not correct.

I conclude of that net cannot authenticate at all for this purpose, and

Bug#786936: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64: Upgrade dom0 from wheezy to jessie on Dell R610 results in dom0 unaccessible with xen_netback issue
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64
Version: 4.4.1-9
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
Dear Maintainer,
After upgrading the R610 server from Debian 7 to Debian 8, the dom0 becomes unresponsive via ssh after an hour or so, although the domUs still remain accessible.
Initially we thought it may be a disk space issue on / or /boot so action was taken to increase those

Postfix dying
Hello list,
Postfix is dying on one of my servers almost nightly. This system is
running CentOS5 with postfix-2.3.3-2.
In the morning (after noticing it died) I try to run `service postfix
stop` and I get a failed start. Running `ps ax | grep postfix` I can
see one process still running for postfix. After killing this, I am
able to run `service postfix start`.
I see a lot of this in my

I tried opgrading to samba 2.2.5, and I have also opgraded to redhat8.0. Now

Samba 3.0.24 handling LDAP responses incorrectly
Hey list,
Recently I've gotten my Samba PDC to successfully use an OpenLDAP
backend, while using the smbk5pwd and ppolicy overlays for OpenLDAP.
However, Samba appears to incorrectly handle responses from LDAP's
ppolicy overlay, even though it very clearly receives them. If I enter
in a password (be it through Ctrl+Alt+Delete or when a password expires
and the user is prompted at logon)

NUT and Eaton UPS produce a lot of error messages
Hello
I recently bought a small UPS by Eaton (Ellipse ECO 800) in order to prevent my
btrfs-fileserver (running Debian 12 Bookworm 12.4 from shutting down
abruptly while writing
something important during a power loss. I am using the version
2.8.0.7 provided by Debian.
I have found very gooddocumentation on how to set up the UPS and the
services on the server
connected to it. Unfortunately

CentOS 7, 327 kernel still crashing
I've just added the following to the CentOS bugtracker for CentOS-7
0009860. I admit to not being sure if it's the same issue, or a separate
one, but this and other Dell servers - I *think* they're all R420's, but I
could be wrong, just all do the same thing on boot.

I've just updated a CentOS 7 server to the latest kernel,

bit by 3.0.8 username map affect on homes share
Samba is a domain member server authenticating to a MS-Windows domain
controller.
With 3.0.7 and all previous version for the past few years I could map a
Windows to Unix userid in the username map file like so..
fred = fredw
His home directory was then accessible as \\servername\fredw so
\\servername\%username% from a Windows NTx client.
I make EXTENSIVE use of that functionality.
