Just a simple smbpasswd authentication won't work
Hello List.
We have a number of working ADS servers. One of out clients is not in the Kerberized domain so there users log in via NIS. Having looked at the options for enabling NIS authentication I have decided to use the smbpasswd. Now I can't get that to work.

Question on LDAP entries and samba
Hello all!!
Well, I thought i'd start my day out with a question regarding entries for
LDAP and samba.
Little background: I am setting up Samba 2.2.8a with LDAP on a Red Hat 7.3 box.
What I am doing is set up samba --with-ldapsam support. Then I was using
the idealx scripts to add users, groups etc...
Here is a test entry that I have in my LDAP:

Cannot Lock /etc/smbpasswd

This is my first attempt at running Samba. I recently came into
possession of an older Sun Sparc 2 with a 4.6G drive, so I thought to
myself ... great! I can run RH 6.0 and Samba on it and use it as a file

samba ldap problem
I have tried to create a samba domain with a ldap backend.
This is how my ldap structure looks like.

SAMBA3 + LDAP
Hi all
I have samb3 with LDAP , My query is
1. My clients are windows 2000 professional, and the clients are not able to
join the domain
but if add the computer name in /etc/passwd
ie computername$:x:110:200::/bin/false:/dev/null
and then do smbpasswd -a -m computername , the computer is able to join the
domain
but i have mentioned the add machine script in smb.conf file
