Ubuntu issue with 18.04 Bionic Beaver
Dear Dirk (other users and Dave) PART 1 I finally was able to install R.3.5.1, however, I had to invoke the following sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E084DAB9 As this skin of Ubuntu 18.04 (Peppermint) does not seem to allow access to the bionic-cran35 repository unless this key is set and added to the system. This is odd - well for me anyway, as for other skins of

Strange error messages from parallel::mcparallel family under 3.6.0
Dear All, Since upgrading to 3.6.0, I've been getting a strange error messages from the child process when using mcparallel/mccollect. Before filing a report in the Bugzilla, I want to figure out whether I had been doing something wrong all this time and R 3.6.0 has exposed it, or whether something else is going on. # Background # Ultimately, what I want to do is to be able to set a time

Regarding R_LIBS_USER
Hello, I just subscribed to the list to join the discussion after being blindsided by the change and reading Dirk Eddelbuettel's reply to my bug report at https://bugs.debian.org/866768 . As far as I can tell the advantages of site library are: 1. Saves disk space and a little bit of user time spent installing and upgrading. 2. Other Debian package manages, like pip, default?to

Give update.formula() an option not to simplify or reorder the result -- request for comments
Dear All, Martin Maechler has asked me to send this to R-devel for discussion after I submitted it as an enhancement request ( https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=17563). At this time, the update.formula() method always performs a number of transformations on the results, eliminating redundant variables and reordering interactions to be after the main effects. This is not always

sorting a data.frame by mean values of grouped data
Hi, I have what I think is a fairly straightforward problem. I've looked through the FAQ's and mailing lists but have been unable to identify a solution, probably because I don't understand the language well enough. I have a set of data d, with 3 columns as shown, I want to sort the data Group, mean(Value by Label). I know that this can be done for one level, say Label, using

[ANNOUNCE] xdm 1.1.12
xdm is the classic X11 Display Manager, using the Athena Widgets toolkit. While it lacks in support for accessibility, internationalization, or other modern features, it is still used in some sites for historical reasons. This release collects 7 years worth of bug fixes and code cleanups, including the fix for CVE-2013-2179 that was previously distributed as a patch against the prior release.

transfering decoder state
Hi Jean Marc and everyone else :-) I am a bit of an alien here, my expertise is not at all in DSP: I am in network games and recently I started to work in a team dedicated to audio for games. Our prefered codec is speex, mainly for its quality/bandwidth ratio and of course because it is open source. You DSP guys would probably curse us if you saw what kind of ugly things we do to compressed

vorbis tag for general music type?
Hi, I am wondering if vorbis has a standard tag for general music type. I don't mean pop, jazz, etc., but something more in line with describing the mood of the mucic. I am thinking of games which have a soundtrack in vorbis format which could use the user's own repository of .ogg files during gameplay, and use the tag to choose appropriate music for that part of the game. For

ext3 partition still gets mounted as ext2
I'm using the ext3-patched version of Linux 2.4.13 (the patch from Andrew Morton's UOW site). I compiled both ext3 and ext2 into the kernel. I've also done "tune2fs -j /dev/hda3" and changed /etc/fstab to ext3. However, when I boot up, the filesystem still gets mounted as ext2. I've been trying to figure out why for many days now.. any ideas? Here's my setup:

ext3-2.4-0.9.0
An update of the ext3 journalling filesystem for 2.4 kernels is available at http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/ Patches are against 2.4.6-ac1 and 2.4.6. Changes since 0.0.8 include: - Multiplied the version numbering by ten to cater for bugfix releases against the 0.9.0 stream. - The main thrust has been the removal of a number of changes in the core kernel which were required
