Documentation updates...
Hi all,
Just a couple of suggestions for documentation updates. First of all,
perhaps you should include the following about Windows XP and slow
logons/long delays in opening files:

add AAC+ file header to new streams
hate to burst the "collective sigh of relief" bubble, but Flash's HTTP-based
streaming within their player is horribly broken. First off, in order to
get it to even *stream*, you need to fake the content-length in the initial
response header. Seemingly innocent at first, what this, in fact, does is
cause the player to download that much data, regardless of "playstate".

Profiles XP and Service Pack 1
Hi List,
we have a 130+ PC network running windows XP on the clients, with win2000
and
samba servers (SuSE 7.3 distribution rpm for samba 2.2.3 and SuSE 8.0
selfcompiled samba 2.2.5).
The windows servers just authenticate the users, and provide some additional
services (Terminal Server and some special software packages). Print- and
File-
services are provided by the samba servers.

samba upgrade 2.2.3 to 3.0.9 - profile not found
Hi,
i'm working on a new maschine with Suse 9.3 and Samba
3.0.9 running. The system on the old Server is Suse
8.2 with Samba 2.2.3. Both sambas are running as PDC
with roaming profiles. Both maschines and domains have
identical sids.
I installed Samba on the new server, configured it,
copied some home directories including the profiles
from the old maschine to the new server and added some

Hi Abhijit
I can't answer your questions but I would be very interested in a fully
working binary of Ices2 for Win32 once it's ready. Thanks for the
effort.
Best regards,

Performance problems with new server
I am having a heck of a time creating a new samba PDC server. I have
installed Samba 2.2.6 on a SuSE 8.0 system. I have defined the machines and
users via smbpasswd, created the roaming directories and share points and
the server starts with no problems.
All of the machines are XP with SignOrSeal set.
What I am experiencing is the users are interegated for their
userid/password as expected. I

Forcing Local Profiles with a Samba PDC
Forcing Local Profiles with a Samba PDC
Is there any way for Samba to force all NT and Win2k
clients of a Samba 2.2.7 PDC to use LOCAL profiles
instead of ROAMING profiles?
In my area each M$ box is attached to test equipment.
The differences in test equipment between M$ boxes
is significant. Roaming profiles are causing boxes
to complain about hardware that exists only on another
box. Forcing

Roaming profile problems - XP profiles not being saved (Windows 7 profiles work)
Ever since I upgraded Samba from 3.0.x to 3.4.x, and reconfigured it to
support Windows 7 clients, I am having issues with roaming profiles on my
Windows XP clients.
All the machines have been rejoined to the domain, domain authentication
appears to be working fine, the home drive is mounted ok, and the profile
information is even read, but never updated upon logout. A user with no

Win XP Profiles
Please, please help me.
I am running RH6.2, Samba 2.2.4 and Windows XP (with sign seal patch). Samba
is my PDC.
I want to use roaming profiles and it nearly works except for something
really strange.
When I logon to the Domain as a user and make changes to files etc and then
log out it updates my roaming profile
perfectly on the server. As the same user if I logon to another machine it

Re: XP Pro - Folder Redirection / Roaming Profiles Question
Hi folks, I running samba 3.x in PDC mode with an ldap
backend. Works great! I use roaming profiles with
folder redirection on win2k, no problem. Here's the
issue, I have a few machines that run xp pro that I
need to give the users domain access but NOT roaming
profiles. So, I have disabled roaming profiles on the
pcs by using the "no propagate changes to the server"

Re: samba PDC and windows xp profiles...
OK, after downloading the entire source for Samba 2.2.7a and compiling,
instead of simply patching up to 2.2.7a, I no longer have the issue of
writing to the Cookies folder in the win9x profile. There is an issue with
the win9x machine not shutting down, but that may be a machine issue, so I
will troubleshoot that some more.
However, the winXP is getting a new error which I am not 100% sure

Windows Vista roaming profiles "access denied" forced local profile (samba PDC), but Windows XP OK
Hello,
I'm having an "Access denied" issue using roaming profiles for Windows
Vista Ultimate RTM (patched to current). The actual login is
successful, the full name is set properly and the password is handled
correctly, however only a temporary profile is created. The interesting
thing is that all else being the same, I do not encounter the same issue
for Windows XP roaming

Moving from SAMBA to 2003 domain with XP SP# client machines roaming profiles stopped working
We have been directed to move off a SAMBA domain to a server 2003R2
domain. We run roaming profiles with samba and would like to continue
this on 2003R2. After bringing all the XPSP3 desktops into the 2003R2
domain, roaming profiles wont work. I'm not even trying to use the
SAMBA generated profiles. The error I get when logging on is:

Win XP/7 with roaming profiles
Before last week, we have been running Samba 3.0.28 on Ubuntu Hardy as
a PDC for Windows XP Pro machines using roaming profiles. This has
worked for years with no issues.
We migrated to a server running Ubuntu Lucid and Samba 3.4.7 so that
we could start adding Windows 7 Pro machines to the domain. We first
moved servers/samba versions and worked out a few kinks with the XP
machines.

Win XP Pro x64 and roaming profiles
I've recently connected a 64-bit windows box to my existing Samba-run
domain. In order to do this, I upgraded to Samba 3.0.23c. Most things
work fine. However, I'm having trouble getting the 64-bit box to
properly pick up the location of the roaming profile. I want the
profile to be stored in a directory in the user's home directory called
".profiles". However, 64

PROFILES - XP - SAMBA 3.0.8 - 3.0.9
Please anyone can help me?
We use samba 3.0.9 at the moment as pdc with xp clients.
Since 3.0.8 the profiles are no more loaded from the server.
Only members of the admingroup are having functional profiles.
XP tries to load them, I offered an empty folder for a poweruser,
which was found, but the profile is only temporary and not
copied to the server (xp doesn't report any error on logon or

Forcing Local Profiles with
Randy,
I believe that it is a simple matter of calling out the local path that
you wish to have profiles placed on each machine, in the smb.conf.
Example:
logon path = C:\Documents and Settings\%u
The above should work, for you. I haven't done so myself, since each
user on my network has their own unique mailbox, which is saved onto the
server when they log off. Which is very
