using windows-printer-drivers with wine ?
Hi !
I own a Canon S500 (4 Color Inkjet printer). Canon has ultimately poor
support for linux i'll never by a Canon-product again. Unfortunately i
bought this one before i abandoned my windows and now i'm stuck with
some average drivers of my Fedora linux (FC5). No nozzle
check/alignment, no printhead cleaning and bad color-setup/correction.
I tried turboprint.de drivers and are they much

Problems printing multi-page emails to SMB printer HP1120C
I have a SMB printer on my network (HP1120C connected to a Windows XP
machine). CUPS test page printed OK (CUPS v1.1.x) so printer appears to
be installed and set up correctly for printing from my CentOS 5 machine.
Problem is when I try to print multi-page emails, I get an unspecified
error after printing the first page and it won't print any more pages -
in fact it just keeps printing the

cups printing
I have searched around the samba documentation, including the smb.conf man
page, and have found nothing regarding the cups printing system except
change printcap to cups. Now, I have done that, but printing still does
not work. I need some types of details and a sample smb.conf and/or any
other relevant documentation.
Thanks much,

Printing with samba2.0.7
Hi all,
I've just install samba2.0.7 on server Tru64.
We have one printer HP5Si and others HP4 on the network. Using Samba from
our Win95 customer we can print correctly to HP4 but to our HP5si we have
the file wanted and one blank page and one page indicated "@PJL RDYMSG
DISPLAY=" " ". So we want to suppress these pages. Is there anyone who can
help me ?

Printing an extra blank page all the time.
Hi,
I'm running samba-3.0.5 on OpenBSD 3.5.
I'm trying out using samba as a print server for the first time, and it
works ok, but I have this problem where everytime I print anything, a
additional blank page comes out of the printer at the end of what was
just printed.
It's an old HP Laserjet 4 connected to the parallel port of the samba
server.

There's not much to it. It's the remote desktop protocol that you use to
access Windows servers. On Windows you open port 3387 or allow RDP in some
other way. (I do almost no Windows, so I

Certain apps - no printers
It's taken a while, but with good old trial and error (and lots of good
advice from this list) I've managed to get Wine printing... most of the time.
With the current config I'm using, CUPS, KDE, Debian, all but a couple of the
Windows apps I've installed print to the local printer perfectly. However,
there are a couple other apps that can't seem to find a printer
at all.

Printers Always Paused - A Solution
I had a problem with Samba 2.2.5 with the printers being
permanantly paused to Windows machines. They could print OK - it
was only the status that was wrong.
The reason for this was because I had used the word office in the
printer name / comment. This was causing the parser which
recognises the printer status to find 'off' pausing the printer.
A quick fix for this is to replace the

getElementsBySelector broken in IE
Hi all:
getElementsBySelector appears to be broken in 1.5 final on IE.
getElementsBySelector works as expected in FF 1.5 final and also it
works correctly in IE in 1.5 RC2.
Here''s my simple code fragment:
var els = element.getElementsBySelector(''[recnum]'');
The variable els is undefined in 1.5 final on IE.

Creating a PDF on the fly
A friend and I are just in the process of trying to create PDFs on the
fly. This isn''t in itself too hard, but we have some repeating images
that are being put in over and over again. It''s increasing file size
too much unfortunately.
Does anyone know the best way to ensure file size is kept to a minimum
for this scenario? We know about linking to a URI, but the problem with

Images not show (or flickering) in old app
I have purchased a simple windows program that is intended for the training of people handicapped with afasia. I need it for my wife, who suffered a stroke recently and she needs this program as part of her rehabilitation programme. We don't run windows, so I tried it using Wine.
The program is written in (some) BASIC and runs on anything from Windows98 and higher. It runs nicely with Wine,

A suggestion for predict function(s)
Maybe a useful addition to the predict functions would be to return the
values of the predictor variables. It just (unless there are problems)
requires an extra line. I have inserted an example below.
"predict.glm" <-
function (object, newdata = NULL, type = c("link", "response",
"terms"), se.fit = FALSE,

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing
works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why
can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared
directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google
and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.
