3.6.10 file handle leak under ancient 32-bit kernel
Hello, I've come across a curious issue with Samba 3.6.10. When running 'emacs' version GNU Emacs 23.3.1 (i386-mingw-nt6.0.6002) of 2011-03-10 on 3249CTO on Windows Server 2008 SP2 x64 and issuing a file "revert" of one sort or another against a Samba-served file, the 'smbd' process leaks two or three handles. Eventually, when 16k handles are open, this causes

smbd high cpu load
We have a Linux file server for a set of computer science and engineering labs where each lab contains machines running Mac OS X, Ubuntu Linux, or some incarnation of Windows. At times the these machines become almost unusable and I think I have narrowed the problem to smbd processes soaking up all the CPU on the server. Running 'top' on the server reveals a dozen or so entries like

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi! I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help! I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a), and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3 from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

One of my smbd processes used 100% cpu. tcltk and Windo$e
I am running R1.6.2 under windo$e98. I have followed the instructions in the Win port faq concerning tck, but when I try 'library(tcltk)', I get Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) : unable to load shared library "C:/PROGRA~1/R/RW1062/library/tcltk/libs/tcltk.dll": LoadLibrary failure: One of the library files needed to run this application

more smbd CPU mystery
Well I have determined that everytime someone logs in/logs out of a windows box in our lab *ALL* of the files in "My Directory" are copied from/to the file server to the local client. Needless to say this is retarded and needs to stop. The local sys admin needs to perform some windows voodoo to redirect this directory. Still this brings the mystery as to why smbd would take up so much

randomForest crash?
I am attempting to use randomForests to look for interesting genes in microarray data with 216genes, 2 classes and 52 samples. My data.frame is 52x217 with the last column, V217 being the class(1 or 2). When I try lung.rf <- randomForest(V217 ~ ., data=tlSA216cda, importance= TRUE, proximity = TRUE) the GUI crashes. I am running R-1.6.2 under windo$e98, and most

high load printing with 3.2.15
Hi, I am still struggling with the printing in a AD2008 R2 environment I changed to 3.2.15 by now. Still very slow, I am running on solaris 10. Not sure if my clients are so chatty by now but it is really killing any performance. Using truss I see loads of: 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE640) = 0 19702: fcntl(17, F_SETLKW64, 0xFFBFE150) = 0 19702: fcntl(17,

hanging smbd(s).....
dear all, the following problem occurs periodically (appr. once a week) here: the number of smbd(s) will dramatically rise (up to 500 and more...) when having a look what the proccesses are doing i only see that they are waiting for getting a lock: fcntl64(4, F_SETLKW64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=240, len=1}, 0xbfefa5c0) = 0 filedescriptor 4 is bound to my secrets.tdb ! after that

Samba 2.0.6-3 (productive env.) slow down dramticaly
Hello together, since today morning I have an massive performance issue with samba 2.0.6-3 (Debian - Testing-Tree) in my samba production environment. Samba responds very slowly within the logon process (2-3 Minutes for each line in the netlogon.cmd). Later during normal operations opening from files works very slowly and often breaks connection. There is no cpu or memory load on the system.

Add new user -> swat core dump
Hi there, I have a problem when I try to create a new user with swat. I use binaries of Samba 2.2.2 coming from www.samba.org, or from www.sunfreeware.com on Solaris 2.6 and on 8. I compiled the sources and the result is the same. When I click on "Add New User" (Server Password Management), I receive a nearly blank page: I can only see the samba gif on top and the user is not

Problems in SAMBA 3.3 to 4.0 migration
Hi, Rowland, and thanks for the reply. The PDC OS is Slackware 13. The BDC OS is Slackware 14. The choice to use Samba 4.0 was merely due to its inclusion on the Slackware 14 distro. I'll worry about upgrading that once I have the migration complete. I will post the two machine's respective smb.conf's later today. -- View this message in context:

Samba daemons hang trying to lock locking.tdb
Hi, A day or so after starting samba, some daemons (diferent forks) begin to hang. Then, the WinXP clients hang too completely. When I try to figure out what is happen, I see that smbd daemons hangs always in a fcntl64() call: # strace -p 6414 Process 6414 attached - interrupt to quit fcntl64(14, F_SETLKW64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=3684, len=1} <unfinished ...> Process 6414

Domain Trust and smbclient error.
I am trying to get a W2K server to trust a samba 3.0 server. I followed the directions in the InterdomainTrusts.html file and receive an error that the domain is not found when trying to trust it. my samba server is configured to use pam to authenticate. I had to add a user named "w2kdomain$" on the machine before I could run smbpasswd -a -i w2kdomain. Once I did that, it created the

File locking in NFS on Solaris
Hello, System: Solaris 8/9 Samba: 3.02 and 3.06 We have problems with accessing files (from Windows XP) on a samba server that are mounted over nfs (on the server). Some users have symlinks in their home directories to nfs resources. When they try to copy file located in nfs the client simply hangs. To make the thing even stranger: Sometimes it also works (after restarting the samba server
