Samba Open Server 5 package?
Hello,
I'm having trouble installing Samba on a SCO Open Server 5 system. I have gone over the Skunkware CD and the Caldera Website. I can find TAR'd versions of SAMBA but for some reason it won't let me start smbd or nmbd without giving me a core dump.
Does anyone know either
1. why I'm getting the core dumps
or
2. If there is a package install for OSv5.
The reason I ask

joing machines
Hi,
I have a samba 3.0 current CVS from 01/08 running with ldap as the backend. It been working fine for the past few week until late last week. I can join a machine to the domain and I get an entry in ldap one in ou=computers and one in ou=users (as normal). Everything looks fine until you try to login to the win2k box. When you hit enter after typing in username + passwd you get an error

Group listings in samba
Hi,
I've posted this question before, but i'm still scratching my head.
I've got a samba 3 cvs server with an ldap backend. When I do a search for users in a group either by net group <group> /domain or in user manager it returns access denied
When I look at the logs on the server samba is searching for (uid=<group>(objectclass=sambaAccount)).
The samba schema does not

ACL support?
Is it still true that in order for a Linux hosted Samba server to have NT ACL
support, the Linux box must have an ACL aware file system such as XFS or
Andreas Gruenbacher's kernel patch ("POSIX ACL")? I read this in chapter 4 of
"Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours". In the time since that book was written,
has an easier method been developed, or has a

Browse Master Election
Hi,
A weird problem ... My PDC is running samba 3.0 cvs from a couple of weeks ago. the os level is set to 65 and that machine has been the master for my domain for ages, until last night. A win2k client machine stoll the domain and made itself the master for the domain, hence a few problems. I have cranked the os level to 80, however I'm pretty sure that is not supported/a bad idea/not to be

Profiles and local profile copy
Hello.
Whenever I attach a 2000 Pro workstation to a Samba server, a directory is created under the user's home directory called "profile", and the local profile syncs with this directory. Its not usually bothersome until someone leaves 2 GIG of data on their desktop and when they logoff, Windows syncs the entire 2 GIG of data to the server. How do I disable this? Attaching a 2000

XP troubles
I've recently recompiled and reinstalled the latest Samba because
the version I was running wouldn't talk to Windows XP.
It still won't. Can anyone direct me to any docs, howtos, or other
docs concerning WinXP problems?
Thanks...

samba ssh
I've got a situation where my webdesigners (win2k) are located on a
different subnet (and location) than the samba server.
I need a way of using a local (to the webdesigners) machine (linux) to use
SSH and port forward to the remote samba server. How does one go about
doing such a thing?

Samba and WinXP problem
Greets to all,
Recently, I was given the task of setting up a Samba server where I
work, to accept domain logons for Win9x machines and also NT-based
machines, which consist of mostly XP boxes, with a couple 2K machines
as well. This domain would be replacing an older one, that was using a
very out of date Samba (from RedHat 6.1) that couldn't do XP/2K at all.
The new one is from

samba and ldap
I have successfully setup samba (2.0.6 on redhat 6.1) to authenticate
users and get all user account information (home dir etc) from an ldap
server (openldap 1.2.7 on freebsd3.4) with win95/98 clients using
nss_ldap/pam_ldap and plaintext passwords.
I would like to use the same setup with client-side encryption ie.
between client (win98) and samba server, but have been unable to.
My question is

Exclusive oplock left by process
Hi all,
We have a HP-UX 11i server running as a samba server. Users use Windows 2000 boxes with Service Pack 4 to connect to the samba server. Several days ago, we upgraded samba server from 2.0.7 to 3.0.5, and we started to experience the following problem:
The general connection and access to the samba server is ok. However, under the samba share there have been some directories mounted from

"No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe"
Hello Samba folks,
A couple years ago I installed Samba 2.2.0 on our HP9000 running hpux
10.20.
I am now trying to install it on a customer's HP9000 and am getting the
error
"No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe" while executing the
configure command. I got that error a couple years ago and resolved it by
linking /usr/bin/cc and /opt/ansic/bin/cc but that is not

sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange policy
Hi,
we have a couple of Linux RHEL 5 samba servers in a domain, one as PDC
and the other as BDC, and both with LDAP backends

We want pc clients can't change their machine password using
sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange policy, so we set it to 1 in LDAP
But pc clients still can change their passwords, and we don't see any
acces to sambaRefuseMachinePwdChange

Samba and Terminal Server Whitepaper
Attached is a 500KB read-only .doc file with a Samba and Terminal Server
whitepaper. I have tried to hit every known issue and all available
workarounds. If anyone has comments or suggestions, let me know. JT
has it, so it should end up in the next How-To. Sorry about the file
format, but the .pdf was 2.5MB, which I thought was too big to post.
