PATCH: Makefile.in more upgrade friendly.
Hello again, In my constant recompiles of 2.9p1 and 2.9p2, I've noticed that upgrading a current installation with a test compile leads to tons of files being updated even when they don't need to be. The attached patch for Makefile.in splits the install-files target into a bunch of serparate targets: install-dirs, install-prog, install-man, install-conf, which are then all called in

strange non-eraseable mixture between file and directory on ext3 FS
Hi! On my notebook I got a strage ext3-related problem: root at jura98 /usr/portage/app-misc/obexftp # ls -l total 4 dr-Sr-sr-t 2 8242 15720 4096 Dec 28 1993 metadata.xml [how this got created is beyond my knowledge, possibly because of some random memory corruption a bad kernel patch caused a few weeks ago] root at jura98 /usr/portage/app-misc/obexftp # rm metadata.xml/ rm: cannot remove

Maximum File Size on Ext2/3
I need to find out what the maximum file size in an ext2/3 file system. It appears from the definition of the ext2_inode structure that since the i_size field is a 32 bit integer that the file would be limited by that. Thanks, Jason

journal file exists but feature missing
Hi, I tried to convert my root partition from an ext2 to ext3 fs using tune2fs. I'm running a 2.4.10 kernel with ext3 support, but the partition is not mounted ext3. In fact the journal feature is missing from the superblock: # cat /proc/filesystems | grep ext ext3 ext2 # tune2fs -l /dev/hda6 | grep features Filesystem features: filetype sparse_super # ls -l /.journal

kernel panic on ext3
Hello, Sir. My name is Hiroyuki Kudo. I have a problem using ext3 in my system DELL PowerEdge 1550. I recently installed RedHat 7.2 (kernel-2.4.7-2) and found that it used ext3. Later, since I needed to use nfsv4, I got kernel-2.4.4-nfsv4. But it didn't start up and saying `kernel panic` What is wrong with it? If the problem can be cleared with ext3-patch, how can I do it?
