Two annoying problems
Hey all - Two problems, one mine, one a friend's: (1) I have a small three-machine network at my office. The server is running Mandrake 7.2 with either the 2.2.17-21mdk stock kernel or a custom-compiled 2.4.1 kernel. It's running Samba 2.0.7-18mdk, configured correctly (as everything works when it's booted to the 2.2.17 kernel). I've moved to the 2.4.1 kernel because the USB

Encarta install from Samba server barfs
Greetings: I tried to install M$ Encarta over my internal network onto my kids' Windoze 2K machine tonight; the Encarta install stuff is in a vfat partition on the Samba server. The install started, then quit about 14% of the way through - the connection to the Samba server apparently was lost - the installer began complaining about being unable to find the CD-ROM, and I was unable to browse

Problem, possibly bug with AllowUsers & DenyUsers
Hi there, I have just compiled openssh-5.0 on Solaris 10, and am trying to set up a certain pattern of user access control. Essentially, regular users should be able to login from any network, while root should be able to login only from a private network 192.168.88.0/22. Actually, for the purpose of sshd_config, this is four networks, but that's another story... Here is what I tried:

LAN hosts not reachable
This may help... I see you're using a mix of the old and new tools. You could try use 'route' with ipconfig rather than 'ip route'. Or you could use 'ip link' instead of ipconfig. LAN hosts not reachable
Me and my son are running Tinc over 5 nodes, 3 of them got public address and we using them as server. Each node has its own Lan subnet 192.168.0.0/24. Originally we ran network on Openwrt routers with Tinc many years without any problem, but due to limited RAM on routes and change of one router to not Openwrt supported model, we decided to transfer Tinc installation on Raspberry Pi-s in LAN. NAT'd Snom360 problems
Here is my setup: * is on a NAT'd subnet, but also has an externally routable IP address. I have a Snom360 that's external to this and behind NAT. The Snom360 can call other phones in * subnet (by their internal extension numbers) and voice is transmitted fine; however, when I attempt to check voicemail (or any * voice recordings for that matter) I can't hear them. The phone just

Native bridging to SIP endpoints on the same NAT'd network
Hi, I have the following setup: Asterisk <-> Nat <-> Internet <-> Nat <-> 2 x SIP endpoints With directmedia=no I can make a call between the two SIP endpoints; the RTP stream being passed through the Asterisk box. Obviously, this is sub-optimal. I attempted to enable bridging of the call between the 2 endpoints directly, given that they are on the same non-routeable

Issues regarding multiple NAT'd ssh servers
Greetings- I recall mention of this bug at some tim elast year, but do not know if anything yet has been done to address it or if it is in any plans... I have multiple servers behind a f/w. I have ports forwarded on the f/w which map to port 22 on the various servers. i.e. ssh -p1001 FIREWALL_IP ---> NON_ROUTEABLE:22 This is fine, but the hostkey negotiation obviously fails... Is

Working: TFTPd for NAT'd Cisco 7960 and ATA-186
For anyone who is interested, I have a working tftpd (modified wvtftpd) capable of serving configuration, dialplans, and ringtones to Cisco 7960/7940 and ATA-186 devices that are located behind NAT firewalls. As TFTP is not a very firewall/NAT friendly protocol, I had to break some rules to get it to work with these cisco devices. It might cause problems for other TFTP clients, but it works with

Samba, vfat and new kernels: Anyone able to solve the problem?
This is my third mail in the last three months and still no-one has answered, while I received some comments from other users about the fact that the problem is known. So if you have any info on how to fix this, please post a message :-) Here is the problem: I used to share a vfat mounted partition with other collegues through samba (2.0.7). Everything worked and still works fine with kernel

Shorewall and LVS-NAT (via fwmark) nat'd machines can't access the outside world directly
Hi guys, I''m not sure where to post for help on this one, shorewall or lvs, I''ll start with shorewall (only cause Tom is a gun at this stuff, and is polite enough to tell me to bugger off to the LVS list if I''m posting in the wrong one ;) I have a single box that is my router/firewall/LVS. Internet -- eth0 - router/firewall - eth1 --- internal lan | eth2

Port Knocking?
I haven't been keeping up with the internals, I'm afraid. Does OpenSSH have support for Port Knocking? I might be interested in looking into that, as a way of reacquainting myself with the current code base. --- Scott Neugroschl | XYPRO Technology Corporation 4100 Guardian Street | Suite 100 |Simi Valley, CA 93063 | Phone 805 583-2874|Fax 805 583-0124 |

Is this a bug?
In the course of tracking down a problem in Samba v2.0.4a, I set "debuglevel=3" and noticed something strange in the log file. While attempting to find the netlogon script, a number of variations on the name are tried (e.g. for Windows, it's *.COM, *.EXE, *.BAT). Here's the strangeness: the file NETLOGON"BAT is also looked for. Yes, that's a quotation mark in place

try (nls stops unexpectedly because of chol2inv error
Hi, I am running simulations that does multiple comparisons to control. For each simulation, I need to model 7 nls functions. I loop over 7 to do the nls using try if try fails, I break out of that loop, and go to next simulation. I get warnings on nls failures, but the simulation continues to run, except when the internal call (internal to nls) of the chol2inv fails.

Samba and Actionlaser 1500
Has anyone gotten this printer to work with Redhat/Samba? My system is RH 7.2 , Kernel 2.4.20, samba 1.2.7a. Sometimes, VIA CUPS, it will print a test sheet, but I cant seem to get it to work locally with a raw queue. I've tried Foomatic but it just messed up my printer database so I reinstalled printconf, Linuxprinter.org says it is partially compatible with the omni driver, which I have

Keyboard Interactive Attack?
I read an article today about keyboard interactive auth allowing bruteforcing. I'm afraid I have minimal understanding of what keyboard-interactive really does. What does it do, and should I have my clients set it to off in sshd_config? --- Scott Neugroschl | XYPRO Technology Corporation 4100 Guardian Street | Suite 100 |Simi Valley, CA 93063 | Phone 805 583-2874|Fax 805 583-0124 |

Can't Access Samba Shares After Recent Windows Update (msblast)
Hello, I have been running Samba for years with no problems... I recently became the victim of the MSBLAST worm and I ran Windows Update to fix the hole in RPC. That was Tuesday. Yesterday, Thursday, I needed to move some files over to my Linux server and as I usually do, I went to My Network Places -> Computers Near Me in W2K and could no longer see my Linux server. I restarted Samba and
