Following the "security = domain in Samba 2.x" document in the SWAT
documentation page I do this:
root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin# smbpasswd -j MDU -r pv-mdu-server1
-Ujohnm%xxxxxxxx
Joined domain MDU.
root@pc194-79:/usr/local/samba/bin#
This is in [globals]:
security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = Yes
password server = pv-mdu-server1 pv-mdu-server2
And now I start Samba via smbd

samba authentication not auth'ing
Trying to set up a SAMBA print server using SlackWare 8.1. Have
successfully joined it to the domain, but cannot browse into the shares, as
it constantly asks for a password, and refuses to accept any including root
and NTamdin accounts. Anybody have any ideas error logs and smb.conf are below.

LPRng question
<It seems that the print command is trying to find the printer at
location 'localhost'. Since this is a network printer it is not at
localhost is it?>
Yeah, the error messages made no sense to me either!
Well, like I said earlier: < The IP address of this printer is 10.1.1.192. I
call this
printer nero, and have it listed in my /etc/hosts file>

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi,
I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and
Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works
fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access
shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a
[printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see
the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it
I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module

Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made
it work? FAQs
tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is

the HP doesn't know jack about port 139.

Doubts about sharing a winprinter
Hi there,
I own a domestic lan with two computers, mine and my mother's one. Mine is called GREENDEMON and the other one is called BLUEDEMON and they both are configured to run on the REDLOCAL workgroup. I've Debian Woody running on GREENDEMON and Windows 98 running on BLUDEMON, with an attached Nec Silentwriter Superscript 610 printer. This printer is only compatible with Windows 9x

Belkin unk ups
Greetings;
Its unk because whats plugged in seems to be blocking the rear name plate.
About all I can recall is that its big, 3 battery unit, rated somewhere
north ob 1250 VA.
Its an 050D:0751 Belkin.
What driver should I use, and what file is that set in?
The nut version presently and freshly installed is from the Ubuntu 10.04.4
LTS repo's. Probably old, but IIRC it also worked with

SuSE 7.1 timeout problem
Hello,
I just moved from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 7.1 by reinstalling.
I use HP 2100TN JetDirect printer. I use kernel-2.4.2, LPRng-3.6.26,
ifhp-3.4.4, Samba-2.0.7
Printing from Linux server works just as before. Printing from Windows clients
has problems. I set it up just like before but any print job from Windows takes
its while and then spits out junk:

79.00FE error on HP8150DN
For some reason, our HP8150DN printers hang with this error and
require power-cycling after a user tries to print any job from
Windows2000 or NT (including a test page). The Samba server is running
2.2.5 on a Solaris 2.6 box using Sun's printing system. It forwards
all jobs to another Solaris machine that runs LPRng-3.8.2 and
ifhp-3.5.1. I am able to install and use all of our printers

Samba & LPRng: Printer Status in Windows
I know this question has been answered here a while back, but I have not been able to find the mailing with the posts on it.

I have a redhat server that I am using as a file/print server for student use. I am using samba to help the users with Windows. The problem I have is that when using printing a user can submit a print job, and it prints fine, but cannot see the

Problems using samba as a print server
Hi,
I set up Samaba 2.2.7 on a RedHat 9 box to act as a print server. The
Samba server is a member of the domain and will be sharing about a dozen
printers. I am using lprng in conjunction with ifhp in order to do
charge-back print accounting. But here's the glitch: the server is not
hosting any file shares and basically has only a couple of local accounts.
The result is that when domain

Well I've tried everything that was suggested with my printer (HP4MP,
That has a postscript interpiter). Including installing lprng, and ifhp,
and no go.. If I just print from linux, (lpr -P filename.ps) it prints
beautifully. If I print with the filters, I will either get just the
Win98 Print test logo then some junk, or I get a stack overflow error

Bidirectional printers, LPRng, and Samba...
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions on getting some JetDirect-based
printers set up for bidirectional printing in Samba?
We're using LPRng 3.8.0, ifhp 3.4.7, and samba 2.2.2
From the LPRng standpoint, the printers seem to be set up for
bidirectional communication fine.. but how do we get Samba to allow
bidirectional communication?
Thanks in advance!

Best Printer Setup
Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of using the Linux machine as a print
server. I'm using RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3. I already have one remote
printer share working... but I can't figure out where the PrintTool in
RedHat is storing the remote printers IP address. Anyone know where? :)
(not important just bugging me - I hate when OS's hide stuff)
I have the Samba book

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey,
I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from
the admin account
when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment
and all they want to do
is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at
the server
Is there a way to do it?
I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the

Printing troubles.
Hi,
I've recently set up LPRng on my system in preparation for moving my
organisation to a Samba/Linux based printing solution. I have a test
printer properly set up, and issuing lpr commands from the command line
works fine. I also have Samba set up with domain security and all the
file sharing is also working OK.
Whenever I try to print a test page to my Samba shared printer, I get

/etc/printcap for samba-shared printer...
Morning...
Just spent this evening getting printing setup off my FreeBSD
machine (oh, how I love Solaris at these times *groan*)...got it now so
that I can print directly from Netscape, color and graphics and all.
The printer is an HP 560c.
Now, I want to be able to print from my Windoze95 machine, and
have samba setup for that, as well as file sharing. If I setup my Windoze
machine such
