Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone, I think I solved it: - I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on the other). - On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their "secondairy" WINS server. - TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Remote subnet browsing using Samba for WINS.
Been experimenting with Samba as a WINS server. Need a WINS server as I am using VPN tunneling. My goal was to set up a central WINS server and have all the computers talk to it for NetBIOS name resolution. In the end I was hoping to have only one Samba server. I have currently worked with: Samba 2.2.7B on a uclinux. Samba 3.0.10 on RedHat. Samba 3.0.10 on Slackware. Samba 3.0.10 on FreeBSD.

Help needed! tricky browsing configuration and BUG_REPORT
hi there, can please anybody help me solve my little problem ? I have about a dozen separated networks connected to my local lan via isdn dial-up (on-demand). I am running linux kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.0 (2.0.2 doesn't work either). There is a linux-box running samba 2.0.0 connected to every remote network. The Clients are always Win95/Win98/WinNT. Local browsing seems to work perfectly.

Browsing from other workgroup problem
I think you need a DMB and LMB. Assuming you have no NT servers in your network, try these in [global]: domain master=yes preferred master=yes local master=yes os level=65 Note that if your other workgroups are on separate subnets, this gets trickier, involving WINS, etc. Steve Litt At 09:09 PM 02/16/2000 +1100, you wrote: >Hi all, >can anybody explain why win9x (or i think also NT) from

UNICAST cross-subnet browsing, Port 445 vs. 139, and Win2k
I have been having a heck of a time getting cross subnet browsing to work properly. After MANY hours hunting through source and debug logs, I have FINALLY found the source of my browsing issues. My Samba nmdb properly becomes the LMB for my segment on a WAN. I VPN to my servers at the home office and Samba attempts to sync with the DMB. nmbd properly locates the DMB via WINS over the

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets. On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available. The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

simple cross-network browsing setup is failing
PROBLEM: Cross-subnet browsing is not working. Browse lists on all machines contain only the machines on the local subnet. SUMMARY OF ANALYSIS: The Local Master Browser (LMB) running Windows XP (ZAYIN) never contacts the Domain Master Browser (DMB) running Samba (BETH) to initiate a synchronization of browse lists.

Sync browse list between multiple workgroups?
(Samba version 1.9.18p4) I want to set up my environment thusly: - 2 workgroups, each composed of multiple subnets. - Each workgroup has a DMB and a WINS server (Samba only - no NT) - The two workgroups should collate browse lists so that clients on either workgroup can browse and connect to hosts on the opposite workgroup. I've read the documentation in BROWSING.txt and it does not appear

cross-subnet browsing problems
I'm trying to set up cross-subnet browsing using Samba on a Linux box and a Sparc UltraEnterprise with Win95 and NT Workstation clients. I'm using the Sparc as the domain master and also as the WINS server on the 108 subnet. The Linux box is the local master on the 46 subnet. Both are running Samba 1.9.17alpha4. I can see the conversation between the two samba servers and the browse

Multiple workgroups : Multiple Subnets
I am still trying to make samba work over a WAN with multiple workgroups although I am just about to throw in the towel. I had hoped to find a solution that would permit a Windows PC to browse a (MS) workgroup (ie retrieve the browse list from the workgroup master browser for a remote (MS) workgroup when that MB is NOT a samba server). Since WINS only provides the broadcast address of the remote

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse

Windows LMB and Samba DMB problems.
