basic WINS/smbclient problems
Hi! Two problems: 1) I can access shares by IP but not by name, so I assume that WINS doesn't do its job for some reason, smb.conf: [global] wins support = yes name resolve order = lmhosts wins hosts bcast 2) I don't quite get it how smbclient works. As I mentioned name resolve does't work and hance smbclient -M MACHINE doesn't either but an IP should work: # nmblookup -A

My systems: rh61, 2.2.14 + smbfs-nls.patch. === 1) Samba seems to override unix permissions in a particular case. I get the very same behavior of: http://us1.samba.org/listproc/samba-technical/February2000/0476.html === 2) browsing behavior: anonymous login There is a different behavior doing smbclient -L -U% if the server is samba or nt/w2k nt wants a correct user/pass pair if guest account

Only browsing and net view \\smbserver fails with unassigned share names :(
Dear Samba List, I'm having a browsing problem with W2k on my 2.0.9 Samba server and now you are my last hope to help me solving my problem. Not working is access from Win2k Clients: "net view \\ixdp425" is the first test that fails, not meaning to terminate with error, but to produce the following unexpected output: Name Typ Lokal Beschreibung (Description)

password change on WinXP
We have samba (3.0.22) configured as 'standalone server' type and security mode is 'user'. I have configured 'smb.conf' so that windows xp users may change their passwords from windows box (using ctrl+alt+del) and I got it work (regardless some sources which say that is not possible with standalone server). The remaining problem is that now users should specify a host to

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list, I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for this: I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server. I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts. F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung". I use following mount-string: mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user codepage

Hi all and greetings from Australia, I am looking at a suitable VPN to secure a wireless notebook hanging off a private, wired network. Is tinc suitable for this? specifics: "notebook" 192.168.205.63 "AProuter" (access point/computer that the notebook will connect to): 192.168.205.31 What numbers should I give to the various nodes? At this stage, only one notebook VPN:ed

diff. file date/time shown between smbmount and smbclient
I am using samba to connect to a WinNT 4.0 server (NT LAN Manager 4.0) and I am not getting the correct file date/time displayed when I use smbmount (actually "ls" displays the wrong date/time after performing smbmount). If I connect using smbclient all file date/time values are displayed correctly. Here are some examples: (smbclient) Wed Dec 1 15:50:00 1999 = (smbmount) Fri Jan 02

smbmount as user
