Please evaluate my patch for Winbind
Yesterday I posted a problem report with some diagnostics. I seem to have found a solution on my own and provide a patch here. [I didn't post this as a follow-up because nobody responded to my original post and I wanted to make sure someone reads at least this one.] The patch makes the winbind client (libnss_winbind.so) code more robust. Consider the following fragment of broken

rsync 2.4.6 hanging on HPUX11 only over firewall.
We are running rsync 2.4.6 on HPUX-11and using it to push a document-root from a staging area to several servers running rsync in daemon mode. The rsync client syncs successfully to modules on the same server and to most other machines, but hangs when trying to syncronise across a firewall (from SECURE zone to DMZ) (The firewall port IS OPEN!!) During a normal release where there are rougly

Make domain users/groups available locally through Winbind
Hi list, trying to add a new DC on my samba AD domain, I noticed that wbinfo -u/-g was working properly but getent, id and so on commands no. The new DC is samba 4.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64. After digging for a while (the other DC was working properly and the difference was that was running on a 32 bit machine) I found that when running `id` command with strace libnss_winbind.so.2 was not

[HELP] understanding winbind smb.conf parameters
hi list, may be it's a stupid question, because it's written in smb.conf but i don't understand the description of the following parameters ** winbind enum users (G) On large installations using winbindd(8) it may be necessary to suppress the enumeration of users through the setpwent(),getpwent() andendpwent() group of system calls. If the

Odd behavior of winbind
Hi, I have an odd problem with winbind. I use it for, among other thing, nsswitch user resolution. I believe it have a problem with accessing information for a single user, or with caching. When I request info for a specific user, it fail (trying to login also fail with NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER). But it work when I request info for all users. And then, login and getent for single account start

Samba with nss/winbind AD authentication breaks su and passwd update
I've built Samba 3.0.10 with Kerb ADS, NSS, Winbind and PAM support on Solaris 9 using gcc 3.3.2. I'm able to compile and install and authentication works fine - I can query and authenticate with AD, but when I su, passwd or some other local auth Solaris command I get the command core dumps or just fails. nsswitch.conf: passwd: files winbind ldap group: files winbind ldap

winbind - getent passwd
I can't find the thread but someone last week was having trouble with 'getent passwd' not returning the Windows domain users as well as the local users. 'wbinfo -u' worked but not 'getent passwd'. I just finished a new server and had the same problem. Turns out I overlooked the the symbolic links in /lib. The file libnss_winbind.so needs to have a link to

winbind - samba4
Hi, I am using centos 6.3 and did the migration from samba3 to Samba4. More the "getent passwd" does not return users. I made the link: ln-s /usr/local/samba/lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 / lib/libnss_winbind.so ln-s /lib/libnss_winbind.so /lib/libnss_winbind.so.2 And change in /etc/nsswitch: passwd: files winbind shadow: files group: files winbind When I run the command:

winbind problem on solaris (samba head)
Hello, I just buildt via cvs samba head. I used just the option --with-winbind (no pam). The first problem is that sessionid.tdb is missing after the build. I don't know how to make it make a new one (can I copy one from another server or is there something in it that would make that a bad idea?). The other problem is that wbinfo -t says secret is good, wbinfo -g/u return the correct

Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member. I took the precompiled 64-bit Package (samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine. I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

Strange package installation error
Hi. I'm trying to install a new package. I'm a relatively long-time (though not advanced) R user and have never seen this error before. For the first example, I tried a few different CRAN mirrors. In the second example, the file does exist; I downloaded it from the CRAN website for the package and pasted in the name exactly a few different times to make sure it was right. >

Problem with winbind and nsswitch.conf on Solaris 8 server
Hello, I'm having some problems using winbind on Samba 3.0.1 with /etc/nsswitch.conf on a Solaris 8 server. The Solaris 8 release is 10/00. The basic problem that I have is that there are restrictions on what nsswitch.conf can contain if password ageing is used. My setup is that users connecting to shares on the Solaris samba server are authenticated against a accounts on a Windows Active

Winbind problem related with old libnss_winbind.so and pam_winbind.so version.
Hello, In my log.winbind I'm getting several messages like this one: [2003/12/30 18:19:00, 0] nsswitch/winbindd.c:process_loop(725) process_loop: Invalid request size from pid 12913: 1304 bytes sent, should be 1568 This usually means that you are running old wbinfo, pam_winbind or libnss_winbind clients I suppose that the problem may be cause by old version of pam_winbind and

Samba4 and problem with winbind
Hello I've installed Samba4 from http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO and everything listed works well, however wbinfo reports the following: > wbinfo -u : Error looking up domain users > wbinfo -g : failed to call wbcListGroups: WBC_ERR_DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND Error looking up domain groups > wbinfo --own-domain : is ok and return the name of domain (SAMDOM) > wbinfo -m

Solaris nsswitch.conf with winbind
Hi, I have the exact same problem (described in this archived mail below) but couldn't find any solution in the archives or on google. So far, I have tried renaming one of the "allowed" libraries like ldap and then creating a symlink named nss_ldap.so.1 to point to nss_winbind.so.1 and also tried renaming in different versions of the /etc/nsswitch.conf file before and after

Winbind and getent issues
I am currently setting up a cluster of Samba servers using DRBD and CTDB. I have gotten the DRBD and CTDB configured on my cluster. I have configured Samba and Winbind to join my active directory domain. Right now I am struggling to get authentication through Winbind to work. My /var/log/secure file looks like my system is not even trying to authenticate against AD. wbinfo -u work great as does
