How do I resize a Physical Partition in a Dom U that''s "on" a Logical Volume in the Dom 0?
Hey all,
I''m trying to figure out how to re-size physical partitions in the Dom U.
I''ve read up what I can find on line and finally decided to have
Logical Volumes in the Dom 0 and pass them as physical volumes for use
in the Dom U.
Here''s an example of what I''m doing.
To start in the Dom 0 I created the LV''s with
lvcreate -n guest_boot -L 100M

Reverting to etx2???
I am in the odd situation of needing to revert my root partition back to
ext2 so that it may be resized.
I prefer to use Partition Magic at the moment and it can only work with
partitions of ext2, not ext3. I believe that the documentation for ext3
exists at the main web site, http://www.uow.edu.au/~andrewm/linux/ext3/.
That is my next destination but as the answer may not exist there, I

Shrinking a ext3 filesystem ?
I installed CentOS on my home-server with 2 IDE 160GB MAXTOR HDD /
RAID-1, LVM and ext3 partitions. Previous OS on this machine was FC2.
I often "play" with LVM and, sometimes, have to extand or reduce some
volumes size. I was surprised to see that resize2fs isn''t included
anymore !
The replacing tool is ext2online but this one seems to only be able to
grow a filesystem (not

what''s correct way of shrinking LVM based domU?
Hi all
I want to shrink one of my LVM based domU''s, but don''t quite know how to
do it.
I have searched the Wiki & HOWTO''s, and they all show you how expand /
enlarge a LVM based domU, but not shrinking it.
So, I stopped (destroyed) the domU, and then resized it as follows:
lvresize /dev/data/cpanel1 -L10GB (It was 100GB), but when I a started
it up again, I

[PATCH] New API: ufs-growfs to grow UFS filesystems.
This simple patch adds support for the BSD "growfs" command, so you
can grow BSD filesystems [in theory -- see below].
It also adds a new optional group called "ufsutils" which indicates if
the libguestfs API supports the guestfs_ufs_growfs call, since it's
not available on Fedora. (http://libguestfs.org/guestfs.3.html#availability)
I tested this on Debian, and although

Changing ext3 Partition Size
I have an ext3 partition from our SAN. The size was increased.
I am attempting to re-size this specific ext3 partition, obviously.
I unmount the partition, run fdisk, change the cyls, and save...
WARNING: Re-reading the partition table failed with error 22: Invalid argument.
The kernel still uses the old table.
The new table will be used at the next reboot.
And that is the message that I

growfs
Hi,
We have recently switched from XFS to ext3 do to various corruption
scenarios that were witnessed.
Does ext3 have something like xfs_growfs for growing the FS to the end
of the underlying partition?
Thanks,

Duplicating Hard Drive Problem
Hello All:
My research group recently invested in a 17 node Linux rackmounted
cluster. It was delivered recently and, being the lowly graduate student
that I am, I was told to 'make sure that it works.'
After investigating it, I noticed a problem with two of the hard drives
one nodes 14 and 16.
On most of the nodes, a 'df -hT' will give you the following:

enlarging partition and its filesystem
Hi all!
I've got a VM at work running C6 on HyperV (no, its not my fault,
that's what the company uses. I'd rather gag myself than own one
of th ose things.)
I ran out of disk space in the VM, so the admin enlarged the virtual disk.
but now I realize I don't know how to enlarge the partition and its
filesystem.
I'll be googling, but in case I miss it, it'd be great if

Resize guest filesystem question
Greetings -
I am going through some testing steps to expand a logical volume and the
corresponding filesystem on a KVM guest and have run across a deficiency in
my knowledge. I spent the afternoon yesterday googling for answers, but had
have come up blank still. What I am trying to do is resize the file system
to use the additional disk space that I added to the logical volume that the

in the technology I am trying to find out exactly what can and can not

Resizing a PV that belongs within a Volume Group?
Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to extend (ie: grow) a PV that is part of
a Volume Group? I currently have a partition on my HD that is being used as
a PV for my Volume Group, but would like to make it larger. I have the
space on my drive to extend my partition, but using standard tools (ex:
gparted, Partition Magic, etc) would likely end up corrupting the data on in

Re-sizing qcow2 images
Hello All,
I am using Centos 6.3 with libvirt 0.910 and qemu-kvm 0.12
I had to resize a qcow2 disk, and came across several issues;
I used this command to resize the image:
sudo -i /usr/bin/qemu-img /var/lib/libvirt/images/mydisk.img resize
+100G . The disk is attached using virtio.
I then tried to use parted from within the guest to resize the partition.
The first problem was that the
