I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't need

security = server problem
I am using Samba 2.0.9 on S1 SuSE box and Samba 2.2.5 on S2 Suse box. S1 is acting as PDC for 98, NT clients. (logon script, shares from S1, and S2). Users's passwords are stored on S1, S2 uses security = server and password server = S1 options in smb.conf. I have upgraded both to Samba 2.2.8, but the logon script wants to connect to share from S2, it is prompted for a password. I have

Fwd: Re: Using rpcclient to install printer drivers
Hi Jerry Carter and list members, The post below was rejected by the list moderator as too big. That cost me four days and now I am really anxious for positive feedback from rpcclient experts either in the field or at samba.org. It was too big because I included a listing of STDERR and STDOUT from setting debug level to 10 in step #4 of install_printer_drivers.pl. I have trimmed it down by

Printing to a windows printer (ERRSRV 22)
Hello everyone, I am trying to print from my linux-box to a networked windows printer "konica 7040" (actually it is a copier which can print too) with samba. I got as far as to configure Samba and file shares are working quite well, but not the printing. I traced back to this problem to a single "smbclient" command which returns the following error message: "Error writing

SMBClient authentication failing, always connecting as "Guest"
Hi: I'm running Samba 1.9.18p10 on a RedHat 5.1 linux with kernel 2.1.124. My compile options were: -DLINUX -DALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD -DFAST_SHARE_MODES -DNO_ASMSIGNALH -DGLIBC2 (incidently, I had to edit includes.h somewhat to get stuff to compile under this config. There were several definition conflicts and missing defs.) Whenever I make a smbclient connection to our nt servers, my

Having a problem ...
Running a Windows 2000 domain; recently we've made some security changes to deny anonymous users from being able to get at our user list. It would appear that one of my Domain Controllers hadn't been rebooted after that security change, and now that it has been rebooted, I can't mount smb shares off of one of our if the security setting is in place. Can't write mount entrysmbmnt failed: 1
I've compiled and installed samba-2.2.8a on an embedded linux/uClibc system, and I'm having problems using smbmount. I've appended the debuglevel=10 output of smbmount. What does smbmount mean when it says it "Can't write mount entry"? I tried running it under strace to see what it was writing to, but all I saw was: rt_sigaction(SIGTERM, {0x10000000, [], 0x408160},

smbclient-2.2.8a cannot connect to samba-3.0.0 server
Hi I have a problem with subject. I have a samba 3.0.1 server to which both windows and linux (using smbclient version 3) users can connect perfectly. But smbclient version 2.2.8a or earlier users cannot connect to this server. I have searched release notes, changelogs, the linux.samba newsgroup and found no indication of others having the same problem. Most likely it is something I have

HELP: Procedure number is out of range
Greetings, I'm here as my last resort, spent all day researching and still without an answer, though I saw many references to the same problem. I have a Solaris 8 U2 running Samba 2.2.5 compiled with one flag: --with-acl-support I've setup a machine account in /etc/passwd and /opt/sfw/private/smbpasswd according to the FAQ. Also tried the automagic way as well in the smb.conf. I also
