predicting test dataset response from training dataset with randomForest
Hi
I am new to R so I apologize if this is trivial.
I am trying to predict the resistance or susceptibility of my
sequences to a certain drug with a randomForest function from a file
with amino acids on each of the positions in the protein. I ran the
following:

Seems like the message got filtered on BUGTRAQ, I'd still
think at least some of the people on this list may have an

Cheers.

Callback / Camp / Extention Free notify?
Hi,
I am trying to implement the callback feature of our old phone system.
This feature may go by a different name in asterisk?
It worked as follows. If phone A called phone B and it was BUSY, you
press a button to enable a callback.
User A is free to continue work or make other calls.
What this meant is that when both phones became free, phone A would
ring, on answer it would call phone B

Modems: Cable or DSL digital blunders that lartc may help with.
I have a Cable ''modem'' that has a problem that many of these devices is
bound to have. I was wondering what other lartc user thought about this
and if DSL has simular problems.
Cable, being Asymetrical, is able to upload at a given rate and hopefully
has a buffer, in the modem, of some kind. When I nc(netcat) to a UDP
echo, or discard, server I get about 10Mbps out on my

Samba 2.2.5 + OpenLDAP 2.x - Caveats?
Hi List(s)
I'm in the process of configuring a new PDC using Samba 2.2.5.
At the present time we have 9 other Samba PDCs in nonconnected
sites. In the next few months, these sites will become part of
a WAN and we're looking to migrate authentication for these
servers to a single box, for obvious administration benefits.
The client base is primarily Win2k, SP2 & SP3.
Now I'm

Smbget 3.4.7 Permission Denied in Crontab, Not in Interactive Console Session?
Assembled Wisdom,
I was trying to help this poor guy on the intertubes who is having some
bizarre issues with running smbget (version 3.4.7) from a cron script?
Is there are some weird environment variables or something I am missing
that is off-limits to the sh in cron that prevents this from working?

I'm trying to ...

UTF-16 input and read.delim/scan
Hi all,
I am running 64-bit R 2.15.0 on windows 7. I am trying to use read.delim
to read from a file that has 2-byte unicode (CJK) characters.
Here is an example of the data (it is tab-delimited if that gets messed up):

Problem with package SNOW on MacOS X 10.5.5
Hello All,
I can run the "lower level" functions OK, but many of the higher level
(eg. parSApply) functions are generating errors.
When running the example (from the snow help docs) for parApply on
MacOSX 10.5.5, I get the
following error:
cl <- makeSOCKcluster(c("localhost","localhost"))
sum(parApply(cl, matrix(1:100,10), 1, sum))

Passive file server.
I am trying to get Samba running on RH Linux 9 to act as a file server and authenticate
against the domain. I don't want it to be actively involved in Active Directory or be
a domain controller. I do not have the ability to add a machine to AD.
All I'm looking for is, when a user wants to access a share that the user is authenticated
against the domain and if they are a valid user grant
